    Slide milling

Wow,.... That looks like the CO ticket right there!
  3. Tried the thumb roll Yesterday, I will probably use that most of the time from now on.
  4. LGS's around here are $1250 new plus tax ($100) plus 3 mags ($150) $1500. I would say if its in good shape with all the factory parts (extra slide stops and ejector) than I would say anything under $1350 is a value,.. Under $1200 is a deal, under $1100 is a good deal.
  5. Magee,.... I was hoping you would chime in on this one. 1 - very possible,...BUT you would have to be familiar with the nuances,...they are slight put it's possible and only takes that one 2.1 - refer to 2.2 below 2.2 - I agree 100%, the CGW hammer, shadow hammer and CZ Comp hammer (and probably any other hammer for that fact) would not give a distinct competitive advantage. Similar to the reply regarding the CGW bushing, SP Magazine release for M&P and a few other exceptions. Visually noticeable, yeah (to some),.... but not an advantage over other permitted items.
  6. The clarification I received was that a FACTORY CZ USA hammer is legal, this could not include the CGW custom comp hammers or any other custom or after market hammer produced by anyone other than CZ USA or CZ UB By that it is my understanding that this is legal: COMPETITION HAMMER SA/DA Product Number: 19504 Availability: In Stock This would not be: CGW’s popular Race Hammer Kit with adjustable sear. Now anyone can drop in a high performance hammer at home and achieve custom gunsmith results. Hammers start out as billet blanks, are Electron Discharge Machined (EDM), precision surface ground, heat treated to RC53 (OEM is RC45), then finished in a deep black oxide for a beautiful appearance. Typical SA drop in pull weight is 3.4 – 3.10 pounds
  7. Great write up! I have found the same. We ended up with all our sights .095-105w front .125-140w rear notch. Trying a 140d notch now,... I am 50/50 on it.
  8. I have a set made at the gun show for 65 vented,.. Work great. Only down side is that with the customs and peltor tac 100's I can hear the buzzer and make comands as long as the RO is within 5'. After I realzed that My muffs went back in the bag. My customs can be worn for 8+ hours and not uncomfortable at all. I just twist them a tiny bit when I am not shooting and can hear conversations and have plenty of protection still. I did keep my jaw open as the silicone set up as some have rcomennded,.. Not sure if it realy helps it did not hurt ether. Worth the $50-70 IMO
  9. Question, Does anyone actually notice a difference in/during a USPSA/IPSC or IDPA type match? Are we literally trying to split hairs with the busing? Can anyone relate it to match points gained or just group size from a static position with no match pressure/stress? Thank you
  10. Memphis, I completely agree on recoil pulse, even though they feel a bit "snapier" I prefer 124-135 over 147 & 165's. Just gives a little "feedback". Practice rounds I like clays at 3.5 under 124 @ 1.125 and for matches 3.8 of WST under 124 @1.125. With 3.8-3.9 I have not had any issues with temp and power factor. The 3.9 has stayed above 130 even on 100* days so far. I have had a few recommend using Federal small pistol magnum primers with the Clays at 3.2 to keep it above 125pf,..... I am still not sure how I feel about that (magnum primers).
  11. What have you shot that was softer at the same pf? Please share, My experience from soft to snappy (with 124) and popular powder has been,... Clays-WST-N320-Tightgroup
  12. We have been happy with the Safariland holsters and the USPSA kits for production and even limited. Holster was only $32 to my door from Amazon (with prime).
  13. There are people that have made the FSS work with the factory M&P trigger by tuning the loop, mixing and matching spring and some time with the firing pin plunger and firing pin. Not worth the hassle/frustration imo,... Options: Just shoot limited as is Replace fss with factory M&P and send to Burwell Repace with factory and follow Burnell tuning guide Replace with factory and use Apex comp spring kit (you may need to load with Winchester SPP or Federal primers) Do a search on lite strikes and understand the timing of the fire control group on M&P's if you are going to mix and match parts. Apex has great kits if you keep it all as Apex designed. Problem is S&W has had a few changes here and there, trigger bar, plunger and sear etc. My Pro and Performance Center pistols had slight variations from each other. The plunger, springs, and triger bar adjustment. PC Ported Pro with factory triger and Apex comp spring kit was quite impressive! I just had some Issues with CCI primers,.... SB, Winchester and Federal were not an issue. Ultimately I replaced the Apex striker spring with the Wolf reduced power striker spring and have not had any issues. Well,... That is after trying 11,12 and 13lbs recoil springs with less than perfect results that is. Best of luck

  15. 1) Reducing recoil - Comp M&P with the right load shot flatter that any load tried with ported pro (in .40) Ported shot flatter than non ported for most major and possibly some minor loads (minor could have been in my head and "felt" that way) 2) Less muzzle flip or rise - yes to all 3) Faster dot or target acquisition - For slide ride neither were as significant as a frame mounted dot, however the carver comp did not move the dot totally out of the window. But keep in mind that you have a bit more weight at the end of the gun as well. I have to say I believe that and the right loads to work the comp helped. That said, the ported does a fine/fair job with 140-160pf ammo IMO, just not as good as a true comp and proper loads
  16. I use high density polyethylene (white cutting board material) from the scrap bin at my local TAP plastic's and drill the pin hole sizes, smooth needed needle nose pliers, small mallet and punch set. Oh yeah, a bit of patience and good light,.... don't just beat the crap out of it.
  17. I use 180 & 155's for minor, the heavier bullets seem to cycle the gun better if you drop below 125pf IMO. I am able to get down to 115 pf with 200's and the gun cycle reliably also. I use WST, Clays, N320 in that order. I have had some problems with WST on hot days but I just bumped the load up to 140pf and it runs no problems and no issues cycling. *My first choice is 3.5gr WST with 180 plated at 1.128OAL, 2nd is 155's over 3.7-4.2gr WST @ 1.128OAL, as for Clays 180's over 3.1gr WST @ 1.128 I had some good luck with 200's over 3.0gr of WST at 1.128, but 3.0 is under 125pf. *reference only
  18. I Personaly like .090/.095 fronts and .135 wide resr notch. Dont care for notch depth greater that .110 either. Doing it over again I would get the CZC comp rear and the Dawsons front. The CGW set would be much better if it did not have such a gap behing the slide and overhang as far (more like the CZC) and the gap under the front sight. The rear over hang makes a low comp hammer almost a must do,.. The CZC's and Dawsons do not. The Dawsons are great sights but the rear sight blade is not wide enought for me from action shooting. That said, The CGW's are poa/poi at 25 yards and about 1" high at 7yards with 124g @ 130pf. Tested with WST, Clays ansTtight Group. They do work. I just have to get use to the sight picture of the deep notch and get over the fitment (gaps) and be thankful I orderd the low comp hammer http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=230683 Sights are a very personal item. Give a set a try and find out what you do and dont like and what works with your load. Goot luck
  19. Perfect, so the CZC Sights dont hang off the back near as far as the CGW. Nice to know, appears the CZC's would be much more accommodating to/for a factory ring hammer. Even the low comp (as in my pictures) is cramped.
  20. How much weight came off the slide and how did it feel after! Any spring changes needed to get/keep it flat?
  21. tedahlenius85 Any chance for side and 3/4 top views of the CZC sites to tell the (if any) setback over the back of the slide? Up right: CZC tactical fixed rear (i think). Down left: CZC Comp fixed. How do you like the CZC's compared to the other two? Thank you!
  22. IMO unless you are going to move over to a .40 you could just send it off and have Dan Burwell do a full comp trigger on the M&P, add a heavy magmell, extended base pads and heavy guide rod and can still be competitive with the M&P and the trigger will have a little to no creep, short reset and reliable (less "tuning" and "lite strike issues" than any of the apex setups (I have the Apex kits in 3M&P's). IMO I prefer striker fired pistols for 3gun for the simplicity and no saftey to worry about in the dump. If you want a new toy but feel guilty on the expence, The CZ Tac sport is sweet, considered possibly the best out of the box trigger out there (my current limmited gun, wife shots the M&P in limited) Another option is to look at the other various CZ's, the single actions have a nice short reset and can be set up to duplicate the CZ TS trigger as single action only. Very sweet triggers! 2011's are sweet but they take a commitment of time ans money to set up and keep running. Mags at $80-$130 each and need tuning. The tight tolerances require manininace more than every 500k and twice a year. Just food for thought, Good luck and congrats on the addition to the family.
  23. Here are the CGW compared to the Dawsons.
