    Paul Hernandez

Congrats from St Louis, Missouri. Nice work Paul and well deserved.....see you next year at the Ohio area 5????? Ohio sectional????State match????? whatever it is, i'll come help. Hey to all my old Ohio shooting friends.
  2. Try and video tape yourself. I was suprised at two things......when I watched some of the top shooters I use to think their guns didn't recoil as much as mind did and I was always searching for some type of load that would be softer with less recoil. When I first saw myself shoot on video tape I was suprised that my gun didn't look like it recoiled nearly as much as I thought it was, in fact it looked just like the top shooters recoil......next I was also suprised how slow I was from my last shot in a box to my first shot in the next box, i sort of stood there for a second looking at the target, then moving to the new box and retaking my stance before shooting. I started working faster at leaving and trying to be ready to shoot as soon as i'm in that box. someting to work on.
  3. this was a fun match last year with some well thought out stages that made the best use of thier facilities. I'm looking forward to it again this year.....and the people running the match and the shooters were all real nice folks.
  4. watching someone else shoot a stage different from what I'm planning screws me up as well. I shoot best when I volunteer to go first and go with how I see it in my mind. too often when watching someone else shoot the stage I start second guessing my self and then my the time I'm up to shoot, I've completely lost my plan. Stick with your plan.
  5. correct on Hi Tech ammo, give them a call, best price I could find here in the midwest. friendly folks too!

whats left of Jimmy Hoffa, found on a sidewalk at the foot of the Empire State Bldg in NYC.
  7. Good luck. Stay low and move fast when you need to. Thanks for your service, it's a life fulfilling experience and we're grateful as a nation to have your commitment.
  8. I have a fulton 20 inch heavy barrel upper and have been real happy with it, it's a tack driver for sure. it's well finished throughout.
  9. some sidesaddles are installed with screws that replace the existing trigger group screws and they can be overtightened when installed which creates binding inside the cycling mech and can cause problems, I've never heard of a problem with the weight or fact it was hanging on the side.
  10. ouch, Mine started a couple of years ago, I'm 55. got it in my right elbow and left wrist, plus my neck right where it meets the collar bone. I take aleve every now and then, and I try to stick with the excercise which does help once I get sort of warmed up. It's effected my shotgun shooting with the recoil hurting my wrist and neck but my handgun shooting is still the same. (I couldn't hit nutting and I wasn't very fast before, and I'm still the same) anyway, I feel your pain man, but stay active it does help.
  11. don't forget your local wal-mart. they sell winchester 55 grain white box usa ammo in a 40 pack for 7.73 a box, that's 19 cents a round, right down the street. no shipping, handling, etc. it's not surplue or bulk, but still reasonable, if you're just looking for something to shoot.
  12. Very nice!! and you must have a very understanding wife for letting you prop that thing up on the dining room table. You're lucky to have gotten out alive.
  13. I believe the original design called for using 230 grain round nose hard ball ammo, we've since learned that it will feed many different types and styles. I've had best luck with round nose, round shouldered, but have also used lead wadcutters with few problems.
  14. I bought a dandy little Hornady GS-350 scale from Midway USA. For the light and occasional user it's just what I needed. Don't remember what I paid for it, but it was under 100 bucks I'm sure.
  15. if you belong to a club, try to see if you can shoot someone elses for a match, maybe try a couple of different barrel lengths, like a 16 and a 20. and what kind of matches are you planning to shoot and what are the distances, most clubs don't shoot over 200 yards and thats only for one stage, the rest are close in, fast shooting stages, where a lightweight 16 barrel with a red dot sight really pays off. buy an out of the box armalite, bushmaster, dpms, they all shoot well and you shouldn't have problems with reliabiltiy. I bought a 16 barrel and later, added a 20 inch heavy barrel upper, to use at matches where I know I am going to be shooting at longer ranges. I've used and shot with several different types of comps, and on a .223 I really can't tell much difference, but you might. You can add or change triggers later if you feel the need to do so, again if you a shooting mostly short range, quick shooting stages, you really won't feel the trigger, it will help at longer ranges however. Just my thoughts.
  16. remember 98 percent of all these fights end up on the ground and it's the submission holds that win.......Gracie is a master at working on them joints!!!!
  17. are you aiming at the same point for each shot? when you shoot freehand, you see where your bullet went, then if you aim at it, you often can darn near hit the bullet hole again and give you a better group then from a ranson rest but......you moved the gun and reaimed to do this. from a bench rest you should be holding the gun in the exact same postion, aiming at the exact same point, which without it being in an actual device to hold the gun tight, is nearly impossible to do, just my opinion. shooting from a ranson rest, which locks in the gun, will tell you the actual potential of your pistol, trying to this free hand or from sand bags, i don't think is going to tell you much.
  18. how about Winchester super field, in has a nice velocity range for .40 and there is a good source of load data for any bullet weight or type. I've used it for a long time and I've been happy with it.
  19. This was a great mag which had it roots in the Running Gun Club in Norco, CA. I met the editor/owner at the first gun show I went to in CA when I moved there, he was showing a video of IPSC shooting, I was hooked that day forward, Wally Arreda... Avida..can't remember his last name but a heck of a nice guy. I understand it went under due to lack of advertisers willing to pay enough to support the quality of the mag, might be different nowdays. This was about 1994-1995. The Running Gun Club, shot every weekend, and always had a large turn out of shooters, some of the best in CA, From Jo Jo Vidanes, to Bevin Gramms, to Ralph Arredondo, it was and still is just the best group of people.
  20. i've used the same RCBS for over 10 years, I like to hand prime, you develop a feel for the primer seating in the case, I've had zero primer problems and you can do it while watching TV. I can hand primer faster and more accurately then I ever could trying to do it at the press.
  21. I've had my cm for two years and love it. I did have some problems with wal-mart, economy 100 pak winchester shells, they sometimes would hang up and not extract, these are the only shells I've had problems with. Slugs and low recoil slugs work without problems. I did read in this forum to make sure it's well lubed, and I do that, and I change the o ring about every 500-600 rounds, otherwise it's run real good and shoots as fast as I can.

    Fun R. O. 's

my vote goes to Brian Hanna, SW Ohio shooter and RO. Helps support local, area, and major matches even when he isn't shooting them.
  23. 13 years old. a 22 bolt action marlin, I still have it. It's 40 years old and still shoots well. I got daughters, no sons, and neither of them has any interest in shooting. Maybe a grandson one day.
  24. You know for years and years and years, I shot 40's, 45, 9m and 357 and never ever even once mearsured the OAL. I used a chamber gage and if it fit and didn't stick out the top........Too Much.......I shot it. In my .45 colt I never ever had any feed problems, nor with any 9mm through 2-3 different guns. I have had some feeding problems with 40's but the problems were mag springs and not related to OAL. as long as you don't put a double charge in a casing, I don't think you would ever have a problem. just my thoughts.
  25. I would save my money and buy an auto loader, ie. rem 1100 or something similar. you would need to add a mag extension to bring your round count to 8+ one. you buy a pump and shoot it at a few matches and you will find you are not competitive against the auto loaders and you will then want to trade up to one or you'll be sorry you spent your money on the pump. just my opinion.
