Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. OK I ordered all of the above on February 25 on Dillon's website (order was actually entered into their system on February 28). My CC was pre authorized on March 18 for everything except the XL 650. Shipping email was received on March 20 and shipment was received on March 23. Today my CC was pre authorized for the XL 650 and I got the shipping email with tracking info. The press will be here on Saturday. Woooooooooo Hoooooooooo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Well I must say I am impressed. Dillon must be getting a little caught up or I am just lucky. Ordered the following on February 25 and my CC was charged today for everything except the XL 650. I will post again when that has shipped. Dillon 1" Bench Wrench Dillon Powder Check XL 650 Caliber Conversion Kit to be Included: .45 ACP XL 650 Caliber Conversion Kit Caliber Type: .40 S&W XL 650 Casefeeder - 110 Volt Casefeeder Size: Large Pistol(38/357,40 S&W and larger) XL 650 Quick Change XL 650 Small Priming System XL 650 Spare Parts Kit
  3. I agree. I must have watched that interview a dozen times and I still pick up something I didn't hear before. Brian has a very good knack for explaining the hard to explain (i.e., concepts and the things you can't see or touch). Until watching this this first time, I didn't realize that there is a difference between the fundamentals and techniques of shooting. I was practicing them both as one event to fire the shot instead of breaking down (and practicing) the fundamentals separately from the technique. I still have a long way to go, but after watching the interview, learning how to shoot is becoming much more interesting and fun. Chuck
  4. Thanks folks. I think I will weenie out and pull them. I have a brand new STI Eagle 5.0 in .40 S&W and pulling the rounds is a LOT cheaper than ruining a new gun. Appreciate the advice. Stay safe.
  5. OK, I think I had a brain fart while loading some .40 S&W last night. I only made 100 rounds, but here is my question: The OAL measured at 1.117 and I wanted to load to 1.17 (I know better now ) The rest of the load is: 180 gr West Coast plated FP 3.6 gr VV N320 Federal SPP Winchester case Is this load safe to shoot or should I just pull the bullets and start over? TIA for your response.
  6. OK, showing my age here: Roy Rogers Red Rider Hopalong Cassidy The Cisco Kid (and Pancho too!) Cheyenne (Bodie as in Clint Walker) Broken Arrow Annie Oakley (can't forget the ladies now can we) Wagon Train (how could anyone forget about that one) Just to name a few oldies but goodies. Stay safe.
  7. Wow, you guys are fast with the replies. Thanks for the tips (taller stool ---- DOH!, I feel like a dunce ) I may get one of the hiker / headlamps also, sounds like a good idea. More tips and tricks are welcome. Just might find one that works for me. Thanks again.
  8. I have a Dillon 550B with the strong mount that I purchased from Brian and was hoping to get some advice on a better way to check the powder charge in my case before seating the bullet. I reload while sitting (my bench is too low to use standing) and the powder charge is too low (3.5 gr of Titegroup) to see it in the case after the powder drops. Currently I am advancing the case to the bullet seating station, pulling the case out of the shell plate so I can tip it to make sure there is powder inside, replacing the case into the shell plate, put a bullet on top, place a new case in the decapper/primer station, cycle the machine and repeating this procedure for every round I load. There must be a better way to make sure that the case has powder inside before I seat the bullet and I am looking for any tips, tricks, etc you have used short of the method I am currently using. TIA for any help.
  9. Many thanks to BE for helping me with my order for a Dillon 550B. Brian took his time and explained a lot of things to me and was only interested in making sure I had everything I needed to start my reloading adventure. Not once did he try to sell me more than what was needed for a beginner and I appreciate that very much. My order was placed with Brian on June 1st, shipped on June 2nd and arrived on June 7th. Maybe my timing was just lucky to get such fast turnaround, but it was very much appreciated. I took my time setting up the press and the dies (measuring like a carpenter every step of the way) and loaded my first 50 rounds of .45 ACP 200gr LSWC with the load data I was emailed from Hodgdon (I chose Titegroup as my first powder with Federal primers). I used my S&W 625 as the test fire gun. I didn't chronograph these loads (I plan to do that this coming weekend) but by felt recoil compared them with the factory Federal 230gn FMJ during the same range session. My loads seemed to be on a par with the factory loads but a chronograph will tell the full story as to what adjustments will be needed. All in all, a very pleasant experience for a "first timer" and I can't thank our host enough for all his help. Thanks BE and I look forward to learning more from you and other seasoned verterans here on the forum. Stay Safe. Chuck
  10. I preordered it from Matt's website and was a little disappointed. The instruction and shooting parts were fine. I learned a lot from that, but during most of the taping (videoing?!?), there were so many shots heard on the DVD from other shooters on the range it really interfered with being able to listen to Matt without getting a headache from all the gunshots. I wish he would have had exclusive use of the range he was using. I think the DVD would have been much better if he had. Anyway, JMHO, but l like I said before, the content was really good.
