  1. You could have asked for a reshoot but you would have been told no.
  2. No magnets in Single Stack. As long as the farthest magazine out is within the 2" rule, you should be fine.
  3. I've never had an issue with the o-ring lock nuts. I actually prefer them to the set screw style. Screw clamp styles are on par. Dillon jam nuts are a PITA.
  4. Similar but not the same powder. Start over with your load development.
  5. 9.5.8 specifically states that shots through the back of a target will not count for score.
  6. Sit as near to the shooter as you can and take the spotting scope slightly out of focus. You'll be able to watch the wake of the bullet as it travels down range.
  7. There's always a break even point but how you figure that point is up to you. Let's say you ignore the cost difference between commercial ammo and reloads to figure your ROI. Time is still a huge factor. Let's say you're awesome at loading on a single stage and can load 100/hour. Let's also assume that your time is worth $25/hour. It costs you $250 to load 1000 rounds. Now let's assume you can load 400/hour with a progressive. It now costs you $62.50 to load 1000 rounds for a savings of $187.50. A 550 would pay for itself in about 3000 rounds. A no frills 650 in 4000 or so. Still sounds like a no brainer to me.
  8. So don't buy a 650 with all the bells and whistles. I priced a new 550 for a single caliber and for 9mm it would pay for itself in 3000-4000 rounds. Add to that the time saved loading and a progressive was a no brainer. I went from loading 80/hour (I would process a batch so all I had to do was prime, powder, seat, & crimp) with a single stage (turret presses are marginally better than single stage IMO) to 300-400/hour with a manually indexing progressive.
  9. Right. I don't have any issues with processing a large batch and then only using that brass until it wears out. If I get to the point where I'm reloading really large volumes, I'll look at other alternatives.
  10. I just bought the RCBS small base X-die set and a LEE Factory crimp die. I'll see how the X-die works. I liked the idea of not needing to trim my rifle brass (assuming it works, the reviews were favorable).
  11. I use Federal XM193 and American Eagle AR 223 and AR 5.56 (all basically the same cartridge). I get MOA out of my gun with these rounds and can consistently hit ~2 MOA targets out to 600 yards. Buy in bulk or on sale to save a few cents per round.
  12. I tried a 712 Utilitly last year and after replacing the piston, hammer, and rewelded action bar (because they broke, replaced by CZ) with less than 500 rounds through the gun, I went back to my Nova Pump until I can wrangle an M1/2. To be fair, the USA made replacement pistion and CZ US smith made prototype hammer didn't break and I never shot the gun with the new two piece design action bar. Regardless, it left a bad taste in my mouth and I chose to move on. I've heard that all these issues have been addressed. The gun itself was very fast and shot great. It would not reliably cycle light loads but that's because of the shorter barrel length. There are methods to remedy this but I didn't feel like drilling ports or cutting coils off the spring.
  13. I recommend getting the full membership as I've found Front Sight to be a valuable resource.
  14. When is the match? I have some 6 round caddies you can borrow (or buy if you decided you want them). Load 2/4 is becoming the predominate loading method but weak-hand loading from caddies still has its place.
  15. I would leave the OAL alone unless you're having feeding issues. I use 3.9gr of TG under a Berry's 124gr HBRN-TP. I've never shot for group but it works well in my PARA LTC.
  16. I pretty much exclusively use Chip McCormicks. My success with Wilson Combat has been spotty. Tripp is my next go to magazine.
  17. I take your comment regarding 10.3.5 to mean that they were disqualifying people from the whole match if they DQ'd in the side match, correct? Or was the opposite happening (DQ in main match but allowed to shoot side match)?
  18. Measure the length of the sized case before belling. It's probably long. Excessive belling won't cause the bullet to seat deeper and create a shorter COL.
  19. They guy that built my barrel is an accuracy nut. He told me to go shoot and clean it when I notice the accruacy drop off. Couple hundred rounds and I haven't cleaned it yet.
  20. Reloading: the replenishment or the insertion of additional ammunition into a firearm. The reload is not complete until the magazine/speed loader is fully inserted and the firearm is in battery, (slide forward or cylinder closed and ready to fire). Additional: added, extra, or supplementary to what is already present or available. 5.2.4 defines where additional magazines/ammunition can be kept. If it's been in the gun it is not added, extra, or supplementary to what is already present or available until that string or COF is completed. Which classifier are we talking about anyway?
  21. Harmonics maybe but the crown looks fine. I wouldn't expect it to hurt the accuracy or anything.
  22. I figure once fired is a bit of a crap shoot. I wouldn't be worried about a few case splits. That's usually how I know it's time to retire the brass anyway.
  23. Shotgun tends to be a great equalizer.
