  1. Ferro, when using a dot you look at the target and the dot just covers it. Much more important and easier to have both eyes open. When using irons it is pretty much accepted that both eyes open is "better" but there are many great shooters who close one eye from time to time to readjust.
  2. Good advice in here. Drop down, get low and pre load those muscles. I also am right handed so I place my left to the rear. I do so because it doesn't disturb the gun as much when I go to draw as I am moving my legs. Set up a camera and play with different positions, see which is the least clunky and quickest for you.
  3. As others have said, This is a hobby. It is supposed to be fun and exciting. Once you make it chore you might not enjoy it as much. Have fun with it and do something different. Grab your subcompact carry gun and run that. Try shooting a fun gun. When I feel a funk coming on and just want to have fun I either go super small (carry) or big (1911). Either is fun and a blast, not saying I don't enjoy shooting my tupperware gun.
  4. "...be like water. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water...Be water, my friend" ~Bruce Lee Meditation helps. Any kind that works for you be it exercise, prayer, or just breathing.
  5. In this order; Food, sex, shooting occupy my mind for about 90% of the time.
  6. Difference between missing paper and missing steel is that you see the steel didn't fall. Take your time and get your hits then practice going incrementally faster.
  7. So that's how you are supposed to do that.
  8. Chapstick or a piece of scotch tape over the center of weak eye. Works for a few I know locally.
  9. +1 for this. I run Glocks. One match my G34 stops popping primers and I only had a G26 as a back up. One is tweaked and the other is factory. Messed me up since I didn't have enough fondling time before the next stage to get accustomed again.
  10. Try for 10 minutes a day at least, longer if I strap my rig on and run COF at home like Andreas. If a bigger match is coming up I'll put up targets in almost every window and run around like a mad man with my trusty SiRT.
  11. I even up the tops but I know a few guys who use the above method. Cover the target with the dot.
  12. Something about that snappy recoil, I liken it to revolver guys using snubbies. Only qualm I would have with that is capacity. But then again, I am crap with a wheel gun.
  13. I second jshuberg's recommendation. This will help you with proper trigger press, on a straight trigger. Do this with a Glock or revolver and it might not work so hot. I personally do what Crawler does and bring out my G26 instead of my G34 out to some matches. Just because it's my carry gun and I have a blast watching peoples faces when I run that tiny thing. No IDPA for me though, I prefer to run and gun.
  14. I've tried this technique. Sure it sounds silly but add in a SiRT and you have something good short of an airsoft or real star.
  15. It's a Glock. I shoot and love them but come on, it's still a Glock. You can get it somewhat close to a decent 1911 trigger but not a nice 1911 SAO. And if you bring the striker spring weight down too much you pretty much limit what primers you are reliably popping. Focus on the basics and dry fire. A lot.
  16. +1 Most shooters use this grip and it is the best for most. BUT. The current Production Champion Eric Grauffel uses a finger over trigger guard grip. Although he does teach the aforementioned grip. All that matters is what works for you.
  17. Some of the gents I know who have their grip strength going down started wearing golf gloves for this problem. Just need to find the right fit.
  18. Glasses, contacts just don't work with my eyes.
  19. +1 for dry fire. Live fire I use a CE Pocket PRO, a bit bulky but it is what I am used to locally. A buddy has one of the SHOTMAXX by DAA and the thing is fantastic for training on your own, just a bit pricey if you ask me. +A LOT. This book is great for a dry firing regiment. Also recommend Ben Stoeger's 15 minute program.
  20. I shoot a glock. Even even with that, if it comes out of the belt and hits the floor I clean and reload it. Better to be safe than running the risk of screwing a stage.
  21. I use a black paster just above the A. Gives you something to snap too quickly.

  23. I would like to join in production but I don't really get to shoot many classifiers. Would this be a problem? L3538
  24. +1 for the SiRT being the way to go. Safer, more adjustable, weighted mags, AND they react with those LaserLyte targets. You can pretty much make your own little steel challenge course in your living room. Down side is unless you run a 17 or 22 you have different sight pictures and weights. Barring all that, I love this thing. Sure it can get expensive but if are introducing new shooters to the sport or just want to teach gun safety to the little ones it is worth it.
