  1. 34 slide will be fine for an open build. Just cycle speed is slower due to the mass and it's more gun to move around. On the plus side you will have an easier time making major.
  2. Second on SS minor. Just make sure you equipment matches with the division.
  3. +1 for Akai customs, fully built guns and they usually have something available now. If you give them a call they will usually walk you through whatever you need. But if you are set on an Edge I would recommend the Brazos one so you could just pick up a set of their tuned mags for cheaper.
  4. What do the feed lips measure at the rear as well? Did you tune the magazine's or are they stock tubes?
  5. I've used dawsons with great success, easier to disassemble for cleaning.
  6. I've used MG, PDelta, Zero, and Bayou with good results.
  7. Sounds good. Remember USPSA ranges are cold. No loaded firearms, it's a county park so leave your gun bagged and don't "carry" it in, Let them know you are new and they will get you a safety briefing, don't be afraid to ask questions and talk. Now for the standard disclaimer. Please focus on safety first and foremost, don't try to be a hotshot gunslinger. Be especially mindful of your muzzle angles on stage 1 and 3. Always pay attention to your trigger finger placement. Help to paste and reset. Bring some work gloves to help tear down, splinters suck. With that being said. Be safe and have a blast. I know I do whenever I am in town.
  8. There will be people there before 5 to help set up and registration. I would suggest getting there early and talking to as many people as you can. Just let them know you are fairly new and they will accommodate. I Would volunteer to show you around but I'm not local anymore. Have fun. Good luck and be safe.
  9. Since you are just starting out I would recommend just shooting your carry IWB for IDPA and production, just be very careful when drawing and holstering. Add some mag pouches and you are good to go. After you run that for a bit then you can usually find an older holster at your local clubs that some one would offload for cheaper. Remember that it usually isn't your equipment that holds you back so don't use that excuse. Good luck and safe shooting.
  10. For competition that is way to much retention unless you are running your duty rig for practice. What would be your intended use? If you do want to get into competition there is a range somewhat local to you that has a few clubs that run matches, fantastic group. Markham park is the range.
  11. I would see if the 700 leads around major, not worth it to play with a powder for now then have it lead when you need it to go major later. Or you can pick up a aftermarket barrel to solve that problem. Good luck with your loading.
  12. You could always look into buying used. I'm sure you could find a deal on a single stack rig, and you can keep shooting production in the meantime.
  13. You won't go wrong with a .40, and if you pick up some 10 round magazines you can always give LIM-10 a whirl.
  14. Just saw that stage, it doesn't move in your hands. If you don't mind my asking but what comp did you have on the gun before hand?
  15. With SS I recommend picking a caliber first then find the gun. Do you reload, are you set up for the caliber, do you stock that caliber, do you shoot any other divisions? I know quite a few SS guys who prefer .40 because they use the same reloads for LIM, LIM-10, and SS. Other guys shoot 9 minor and use production rounds. Hardcore 1911 traditionalists only take .45, They can run in LIM-10 using 170mm mags. Either way good luck in your endeavor.
  16. Shooting lead out of a Block I would highly recommend a chrono. I wouldn't want to run my velocity much higher than I required for my PF.
  17. Theory doesn't always work in practice so I am curious as well too see how well this works.
  18. You don't get a procedural when an empty magazine hits the ground. If you still have rounds in the mag then you reload with retention. That being said if you dump extra rounds in IDPA to empty your magazine that can be a procedural.
  19. I shot Friday morning and was out of GA by sundown, perfect weather for me. I can't imagine shooting those stages in a downpour.
  20. 1) No DOH, you can have a offset of 2 inches but no drop. 2) I currently use a bladetech but have used others with good results, it was cheap find so I bought it. Other good options are comptac, DAA, ready tactical. Good luck and be safe.
  21. TTI will take the finger grooves off and reduce the back strap. I'm sure you could call and get exactly what you wanted done. Their customer service is top notch.
