  1. So we have the bottom feeders trolling the revolver forum...
  2. Bought my first Ruger in 1975 - the Blackhawk 357/9mm - and I still have my .45/.45ACP Blackhawk. I'd like to see them come out with an 8-shot 38/357 on the Super Redhawk frame - it offers a lot more grip options than the Redhawk.
  3. If you were going to shoot competition with it I'd recommend the Wiegand front sight base. It's easy to mill out the existing sight and rib. Had my 686-1 done that way and it gives you a lot more choices with the front sight. If you're looking to use it as a carry gun, I'd leave the front sight alone and tune up the action. Then I'd get a good holster and carry it. I'd even shoot it for IDPA just to get some practice with it. I'd also get some Jet loaders and a couple good carriers from North Mountain. While other folks make some oustanding carriers, I like the Tek-lok's that Bob uses.
  4. I'm a lefty too and I use the same grip with the revolver that I use with my bottom feeders. My right thumb is along the frame under the cylinder and my left thumb sits on top of it. Some folks don't like that because of the"blast" off of the b/c gap but I've never had an issue with it. I can tell when I've had the right grip because my right thumbnail gets sooted up. Then again, I'm not shooting a 500 or 460 S&W and putting the knuckle of my thumb in that area like I was holding a rifle
  5. Somebody's pet peeve turned into the gospel So begins the spiral...
  6. Tom, while some folks might consider what you did coaching, I see it as growing the sport. You did it off the clock and it is was done to help a new shooter, potenially reducing his frustation level and increasing his enjoyment level. I had a Chief tell me one time "You are always training your replacement, no matter where you're at. While this elderly gentleman is probably not your replacement, doing the same thing with younger shooters does accomplish that goal.
  7. Javier, you know all you have to say is Bubber made me do it...
  8. In that case, I'll take 5 so I can put them in the redundent department of redundency...
  9. That's a question you'd have to ask HQ. Based on the way things are going now, you would probably have to retake the class if you let your membership lapse, but again, a question for HQ.
  10. Somebody please call the renderer so we can haul this dead horse off...
  11. You can tell the writers are from California. I grew up on a farm in NY and have never heard of a "ranch" east of the Mississippi.
  12. Try reloading left handed... Ouch! I am left handed. Actually, I prefer to think of it as right brained. Javier, I didn't know that. Of course if you're hanging around with Bubber and that bunch, it helps to have at least one person in their right mind
  13. I've always liked the Miculek wood grips because they allowed me to regain my grip quicker after reloading (as a lefty, anything but a strong side reload is a waste of time), but as some folks have pointed out, shooting a big match with major loads tends to beat up your hand. I put the X-frame grip on my 625JM last year and have really noticed the difference. Shooting the nationals in May with this grip was about like shooting a club IDPA match in terms of how sore my hand got - not very much at all. I noticed a very slight difference in reacquiring the grip but not that much. Best thing is to shoot guns with different grips if you can, otherwise you'll end up like the rest of us with a box of grips in the cabinet next to the box of holsters...
  14. North Mountain makes a single post moonclip holder with kydex wrap around that is IDPA legal, plus you can use it for starting and emergency loads in USPSA.
  15. Guess that means it'll be too late for Oscar consideration
  16. They wouldn't have to do much site prep work to use Detroit now...
  17. Got a kick out of the tweets they were showing on the repeat of the last episode before the finale. You'd think these were real people the way some folks get so wrapped up in it.
  18. I was going to suggest doing some squats to tighten up the butt
