  1. May be but they don't smell too good in the afternoon...
  2. It started with the bad seat and then worked its way around the wheel to the tube.
  3. No, I was cruising right along. I can always tell when a primer hangs up and tries to go in sideways or at an angle. This one didn't feel any different than a normal primer but it was in the case at an angle when I pulled it out after the BANG. I'm usually real careful about easing up to feel the primer seat and then giving the last shove to fully seat it. I went through everything today and made sure the reload head was tightened down and everything was working right. Had to improvise on the primer magazine and use one of the tube adapters that came with my Vibra-prime unit. I loaded (gently) a couple hundred rounds of .45 ACP and everything seems to be working. Just have to wait until I get my primer magazine from Dillon so I can put the primer alarm back together and back on the press.
  4. I reckon that would depend on how warm it gets in your neck of the woods... Some places you come to a match like that and someone might think you're one of them lawyer fellers...I know there are some good ones around - even some know to shoot wheelguns ...but as a general rule a class of varmint to stay away from... Go to Walmart, Bass Pro or Cabelas and find a fishing vest that's comfortable. It won't be as tacticool but it'll do.
  5. So I'm reloading .45 on my 650 this morning and all of a sudden - KA-BOOM! First time I've ever had a primer go off in this press. Starting looking at the press and saw one of the buttons in the shellplate had popped out. Tried moving the ram and it wouldn't go anywhere so I looked at the primer system and it wouldn't rotate. Took it apart and it had cooked off the whole tube of primers. Had to drive the magazine tube out and you can see what happened to it. The diffuser on the light above the press was a little worse for wear. Found the primer follower rod up in there in three or four pieces along with a few primers. By the way, these were Winchester primers, not Federal. Good news is all the safety features built into the system worked - not a scratch on me. I've had a primer blowout on a Lee Pro-1000 and it just shredded the entire system. Now I have to wait until Tuesday to order a new large magazine tube, the follower rod and lever on the primer warning system.
  6. Might want to slide them back a mite before you go to the IDPA match if they're on the weak hand side...
  7. The Safariland 568 with the belt loop works well too.
  8. It wasn't something I would have paid to go see but it was funny enough for a little entertainment. Seeing Dana in all her glory was surprise bonus.
  9. When you're moving to a position, know where you're target is and have the gun up when you move into position. You can save a couple seconds each time. See the next target with your eyes before you bring the gun to it. Your gun will move to where your eyes are. Don't try to shoot faster - move faster, but do it efficiently.
  10. It will pass the test without any problem. It has ears at the front and back of the holster that your belt goes through and it pulls in tight.
  11. One of my favorites. In the early 80's I was in Germany. Had quite a black powder group there. Shot monthly matches and had rendevous twice a year at the Heidelberg Rod and Gun Club. Was almost mandatory to watch Jeremiah Johnson and The Mountain Men once a week while drinking good german beer. "You were guarding the stock." "The hell you say" "Come to Popo Agee, Plenty whiskey and white women.""Popo Agee? That's clear to hell and gone the other side of the divide!" "Pick me, Bill Tyler, Pick me!"
  12. She looked even better in "Exit to Eden"!
  13. Started in 98 shooting a Colt Gold Cup in CDP, a Hi-Power in ESP and a Ruger Speed Six in SSR. Eventually picked up a used Glock 22 to shoot SSP. Bought a 625 to shoot SSR, sold it in 02 when the rule changed disallowing 5" revolvers, replaced it with a 610 and then a 646. Eventually bought a 686 to shoot SSR after that rule change and another 625 for ESR.
  14. I'd have thought converting it to .38 Super would be more feasible than 9 mm
  15. Wow, did they move? Last year they were in the Midwest ;-)
  16. Practice getting your grip from the get go. Sure you can make adjustments but it just slows you down. Your first contact should be the web of your hand at the top of the grip frame. If you're not hitting that - move your gun so it sits where your hand comes down. Don't worry about drawing the gun, just practice getting your grip again and again until you can hit it every time. For a fat old man who can't see for crap anymore, I've got a decent draw and that's what makes it work for me.
  17. Let the feeding frenzy begin!! (Cue theme from Jaws)...
  18. COF

    New gun

But you'd have to shoot minor, or the new PF - pipsqueak ...
  19. I've got a 5-1/2" red hawk in 41 mag I picked up 20+ years ago when I was stationed at Kirtland in Albuquerque. Shoots everything from 170 gr semi-wad utters to some 250 gr cast behemoths. I don't think you're going to find a SA 41 mag other than the Blackhawk or the Freedom Arms. Either of them will handle the cartridge but you can buy the Blackhawk without mortgaging the farm.
  20. Not going to make it this year. Still recovering from radiation and haven't shot a match this year. It's a shame too with the Nationals two hours from home.
  21. Had the same problem with my 646. Had to polish the chambers
