  1. I'm running the factory grips. They are the most comfortable I've found and they have a dishout on the upper left side for the speedloader. But then I don't have to worry about a speedloader anymore
  2. Thanks for the info. The good news is I've done the MD thing before when my father-in-law and I started the first St Louis area IDPA club in '98. We were already involved in the USPSA matches so it was a fairly simple transition. The club really wants to get other disciplines started so I know I'll have their support. My issue is getting the shooters to come out. I've got to get the word out to some of the local indoor ranges and other clubs in the area to see what interest is out there. We're located in Illinois but within 45 miles of downtown St Louis. If folks are interested, they'll drive to a good match. I used to shoot at a club west of St Louis that is 75 miles from my house, but because all but about10 miles was interstate it didn't take that long to get there. I've thought for a while about trying to get ICORE started and thought that the World Shooting Complex down in Sparta would make a a fantastic venue for a state or regional match. They've got a very accessible range and all the facilities you would need - of course that means they'd have to keep it open.
  3. I've been pondering trying to start an ICORE club in the metro St Louis area for a while. Just found out one of the clubs I belong to just northeast of St Louis is looking to add disciplines so I talked to them about starting ICORE at the club. They're receptive to it so now it's a matter of finding folks who want to shoot ICORE in the area. If you live in the metro St Louis area, or within a couple hours, let me know if you'd be interested. Now that Green Valley has started shooting ICORE, we'd have two clubs within driving distance to shoot matches. Jerry
  4. Going to try my 6" GP100 I had converted over to .40 a couple years ago - about the same time the 8-shot was approved for USPSA. Haven't had much opportunity to shoot it but seems like it ought to work in Limited 6.
  5. Okay, who's going to add to the demand for this? This looks like a great tool for the GP100. This would really help releasing the cylinder for lefties.
  6. Replacing the hand and extractor are easy enough - you don't have to replace the cylinder because of those. If your cylinder notches are peened, you can still reshape them. There are plenty of descriptions of that process.
  7. That's how I reload. I'm no where near as fast as Matt, but I get by.
  8. Are your first five shots always accurate or do they vary? Try numbering your chambers and shooting it to see if the issue is related to specific chambers. Try starting with different chambers to see if it is a difference.
  9. That's old school gun smithing. When I was a kid, I remember talking to a couple of guys that used nail polish to hold screws in place on their guns. Of course, back then we still heated with wood stoves...
  10. Bladetech makes a good Kydex that you can use for both USPSA and IDPA - use the drop offset for USPSA and the belt loop attachment for IDPA.
  11. 2007 NRA Convention - I talked to the Ruger rep about bringing the Redhawk out in .45 ACP. He told me they had it in the works and would be out early 2008. Glad they finally came out with the duel option, but 5-7 years too late and the wrong barrel length. With the GP-100 Match Champion and the smaller frame single shots they are at least going after the IDPA wheelgun And SASS shooters. Based on the barrel length, this one was designed to compete in IDPA - even though it is too heavy for the speed loader side. If you look at Ruger's line as a whole, they have created a lot of concealed carry products and even slimmed down their autos to where they can be competitive. Now if we can push them to take the Super Redhawk frame (because of the many grip options) and create an 8-shot revolver with good quality they could take that market away from S&W with the crappy products they're putting out.
  12. Have you looked at AP Custom? Not sure if they work with the JP barrel nut, but you can always ask Aaron.
  13. The Taccom barrel looks like the CMMG at half the price! Thanks for the tip!
  14. I'm building a .22 LR upper for my AR on the cheap and have had no luck finding surplus 1:12 or 1:14 barrels. I've found some new ones but they're all new manufacture that must be gold plated with the price they're asking. Anyone know of a current source for surplus barrels?
  15. Sent my 6" GP100 to Virginia last year to Dave Clements in Virginia and had it converted to .40. I've shot 1" groups with it @ 50 yards as a .357. Really looking forward to seeing what it'll do as a .40. I've only shot it once since I got it back but need to play with it some more. His conversion cut the entire back of the cylinder down to fit the moonclips rather than milling it out. I need to get some pictures taken and post them.
  16. You could always mill off the front sight, cut in a dovetail and use a 1911 FO front sight. I've got a Ruger Speed Six I had cut to 3" and did that for the front sight. Works great!
  17. The majority of folks who have been shooting ESR in IDPA also shoot USPSA and were some of the same folks who were glad to see the rule change to allow the 8 shot revolver with minor PF. The "other Jerry M that shoots revolver" is one of those. So repeated recoil over many years was one of the reasons for seeking a lower PF. Another was having to load ammo to a higher level for a revolver to make the same PF that the bottom feeders made. Before we get any righteous indignation from folks who say this denigrates one of IDPAs core precepts - using full power service ammo - the reality is the majority of shooters who compete load their own ammo for economical reasons. Because of IDPAs inane .45 ACP protection class - CDP - anyone shooting .40 SW is shooting reduced loads to be competitive in SSP and ESP. So why should ta shooter have to subject themselves to higher recoil to make the same PF in a wheelgun than they do in a bottom feeder.
  18. Heaven forbid, Jim! Can't have that!
  19. I've used Titegroup for 38, 40 & 45 and have never had a problem with gas cutting the top strap. Being a lefty, I've burned myself a few times on the forcing cone, but haven't seen any indications of erosion on the top strap.
  20. Never said it was a bad place to be, but it is, in the words of Bill Tyler "Clear to hell and gone the other side of the divide!" ... From the Midwest... I'm sure it's a beautiful place and I'd like to shoot a match there one day.
