  1. Why not? I retired 13 years ago after 26 years service, but still view most things from a military viewpoint.
  2. Finally took mine today. Fairly comprehensive, but way too many repetitive questions.
  3. Adding more revolver shooters is the primary goal but this would reduce the number of shooters in each division - much like IDPA did with splitting ESR and SSR. 6-major/8-minor creates a competitive environment for both to compete together. Adding a "Classic" category for speedloader fed guns would allow recognition of them and possibly encourage more revolver participation.

    What Grips

I like the Miculek grips on my revolvers because they allow my hand to slide around when reacquiring the grip after a reload. I did put a set of the x-frame grips on my 625 and definitely noticed a difference after shooting the nationals - my hand wasn't sore like it is when shooting with the wood grips.
  5. I used Ranch moonclips for my 646 with mixed brass. Winchester was tighter than anything else but they worked with everything I put in it.
  6. .38 Super case is too thick to load .357 or .358 bullets into and fit .357 chamber. Rechamber for .38 Super
  7. Don't have an 8-shot and don't see one in the near future so 6-shot major.
  8. I don't think we're looking for a welfare program for the revolver division, just some incentives to get folks involved. I would think pushing revolver manufacturers to support these matches specifically for the revolver division would be a way to increase the prizes. While Smith is the predominant brand on the circuit they seem to be too busy building M&P pistols and rifles to worry about supporting competition shooters, i.e., no 5" 625s in the catalog. Taurus already makes an 8-shot revolver. If the rules change to include 8-shot minor, blitzing Taurus to build an unported version could be an option. Getting Ruger to build an 8-shot .357 and a .45 ACP on the Super Redhawk frame would open up the competition. But how do we get them to take on that R&D? Anyone have any ideas?
  9. Yup, no problem using them for IDPA. Just don't over-Bubberize them or you'll be standing with a speedloader with less than six rounds and the missing ones still in the holder...
  10. As a fellow veteran, thank you for taking the mission forward. As a fellow wheelgunner, I understand your concern about competing against a stacked deck. As a wheelgunner who has been shooting USPSA since 1996 I can tell you that I can count on one hand the number of revolver shooters I have seen at a USPSA match with a speedloader fed revolver shooting major or minor. How many wheelguns are shooting USPSA at your club now? If your goal is to get them shooting revolver and the change is made, what is the impact? Do you have that many revolver shooters at your club who would go out and buy 8-shot revolvers? Realistically, they aren't going to be competitive right away anyhow. They're going to spend a couple of years developing skills and figuring out what they like. So buy the GP's, have them cut for moonclips and they can shoot them in USPSA and IDPA. If they decide they like shooting USPSA and the change is mage, buy a couple Taurus 608's and have the ports drilled and tapped for considerably less than a couple 627's or the Les Baers.
  11. Not according to the manufacturer's website. Since it's a 6.5" barrel and the ports are at the end, you could have the barrel cut and recrowned and the Wiegand sight base cut into the rib and installed. Probably would end up with a 5-5.5" barrel. Considering you can pick up the Taurus for under $600, might be a good deal. Of course, I could see one of our enterprising revolver smiths setting up this as a specialty service
  12. I can't seem to find anything except the recognition requirement, nothing about prizes in any of the rulebooks.
  13. How about a change to the recognition rule for Level 3 matches -lowering participation requirements to 5 instead of 10. At the same time make it a requirement to award prizes equally to all divisions. I understand recognition might not be a primary factor for competitors shooting revolver on a regular basis, like Mike and Dave, but it could be incentive to get folks to sign up in the division if they think they've got a chance of winning something. Right now some folks don't shoot revolver at Level 3 matches because there aren't enough shooters to have the division recognized. As a result, the division doesn't get recognized and the prize table for revolver usually sucks. Before the S**tstorm starts, I realize what I am proposing will reduce the prizes for the the other divisions and bring about comments about them subsidizing Revolver. Seems like right now, the revolver guys are subsidizing the rest of the divisions, especially if there aren't enough shooting to get division recognition. Seems to me we have a sel-defeating paradigm - shooters don't sign up because the division isn't recognized and the division isn't recognized because there aren't enough shooters. We've got to do something to bring in more revolver shooters Just the view from my side of the anthill.
  14. Wow! You go, Professor Bubber!
  15. Not seeing any 6-shot K or L-frame moonclips...
  16. I like the Jet Loaders but they have a very limited application base- of course, if you're shooting a Smith K or L frame - it's not limited at all If you're shooting an N-frame or an old Ruger 6 Series, you're out of luck.
  17. CD, did the "inspector" hold the cylinder release back when he attempted to cycle the action or did he just pull the trigger? The reason I'm asking is I checked my authentic Carmonized 625 with the cylinder open and couldn't cycle the action unless I hold the cylinder release back. Guess what - any revolver will fire when you do that. Mine would only come about a third of the way back and then stopped. No way it would have fired because it wasn't back far enough to bring the hammer block out of the way. Be interesting to see how this rule is applied. Realistically, I think it's another knee-jerk response to a non-issue probably generated by someone in Smith's legal department. Break out the Liquid Weld and build up a little bump at the back of the hammer.
  18. While this may be close to Nik's poll topic, I'd like to hear what it would take from the 6-shot minor audience to get them to compete in USPSA with these wheelguns. Please stay on topic
  19. You have succinctly identified the very reason to try the 8-minor/6-major - It gives shooters more options. You like the challenge of breaking the stage down into 6-shot increments - Great! You still have that option, but why not allow others the option to shoot it in 8-shot increments? I've shot revolvers for years and still plan on shooting them regardless of the change. I'd like to see the speedloader revolver shooters get into the game as much as anyone, BUT I don't see it happening. IDPA is a prime example of a shooting sport that's not ICORE, that is as revolver neutral as you're going to get with 18 round maximum stages. I've shot IDPA since 1998, been a match director for local and state matches and SO'd local, state and national matches. In those 15 years, I haven't seen a big influx of revolver shooters into the sport, So, if they won't shoot IDPA with a 6-shot minor revolver, why do folks think we'll bring them into the USPSA fold in droves? The majority of the IDPA shooters shooting USPSA are shooting the autoloader divisions that best match up to their IDPA equipment. If someone could figure out now to get the 6-shot minor guys to come to USPSA and support the sport, I'd support whatever change it took for that. In the meantime, if we can bring in some of the dedicated ICORE shooters and allow USPSA members with 8-shot revolvers shoot them in USPSA, why not try it?
  20. They call that ICORE... Revolver shooters don't want to take our toys and play elsewhere. We want to play on the same USPSA playground as everyone else but with our toys.
  21. Wish the Area Director for Illinois was on here so I could tell him I am in favor of this...
  22. Probably to get around the military caliber prohibitions of some countries, but you should be able to shoot 9mm
