  1. Seems like you're headed in the wrong direction. The minor .38 is going to be faster than the .45 major simply based on the recoil.
  2. Cloverfield - gave me a freaking headache trying to watch it
  3. It would work the same way rimfire does in Steel Challange - it offers a low cost/low recoil starting platform for all beginners. IDPA has enough rules that "undermine the core principles" that this isn't going to do anything but introduce more shooters into this GAME.
  4. Lots of options available in Smith K & L frames or Ruger GP & Security series. Started with an old DAO Ruger Service 6 I turned into a Speed 6. Cut the barrel to 3" and dovetailed a 1911 FO sight in it. Then got an old beater 686 I tuned up myself. Had the front sight milled off and installed the Wiegand base. So don't worry if you find an older K or L frame with a integral front sight. Working on a Model 15 right now. Find something reasonable and just start shooting it.
  5. The Searchers "That'll be the day" and Duke's tribute to Harry Carey, Sr at the end of the movie.
  6. Not an issue for IDPA anymore - is now called a storage device, not a safety.
  7. I know a lot of folks go for the drop offset holster for production but I don't believe you lose that much going with a standard OWB holster. Using the Uncle Mike's gets you some offset and they are economical. You can't go wrong with Comp-Tac.
  8. Better to fix it now than wait until you're in the middle of a match and have it go TU
  9. I had chronoed my loads the weekend before with 4.5 WST and it was marginal - bumped my match loads to 4.7 (4.9 is max) and still had to shoot 6 rounds over the chrono to make it
  10. Yes,you have to retain moonclips with unused ammo - of course the only time that happens is if the stage requires a reload after 2-3 shots. You can always make up those -1's and -3's with 0's since they got rid of the round dumping rule. In the 15+ years I've been shooting IDPA I've never had to reload a partial moonclip into a gun to finish a stage. I have used a partial on a stage that required downloading to less than six at the start but then you're not on the clock doing the reload. Some clubs are squirrelly about muzzles over the berm because of club rules. There is no safer weapon during a reload than a revolver but rules are rules.
  11. It's been 20 years since I left Albuquerque but the northeast heights area had decent home and schools. They also had quite a few new developments west of the Rio Grande and north of I40. The bonus to this area is that it's closer to the shooting range state park. I used to belong to Zia Rifle and Pistol Club south of town. Enjoyed living there but the drivers are NUTS!! I've driven all over Europe and in Asia and they've got nothing on Albuquerque!
  12. Leaving a point of cover with a magazine in your hand is NOT a PE, but if it is not stowed before you fire the next shot it will be a PE. Stage 3, String 2 of the classifier is a prime example of why you perform a Tac Reload instead of a RWR - You can start moving as soon as the magazine is in the gun and stow the mag on the way to the barrel. I hope in the interest of making rules clearer in the NRB we don't create additional breeding ground for range lawyers.
  13. There you go gettin Otis involved again...
  14. "Unknown distance. Unknown time. How's a guy suppose to "groove it in". Geez." Is this the IRC? Is this the near and far standards? Nope. Just bring your whole toolbox with you.
  15. Sorry to hear that Sam, but I fully understand that work aspect as I'm sure most folks do. I agree with Blueridge - I don't think we would be having the stand alone revolver nationals without your match to show it was possible. Thanks for your past efforts and looking forward to next year.
  16. Looks like the Mississippi is still high in the Quincy/Hannibal area and the Illinois is flooding east of Barry. I don't see anything for Barry.
  17. I haven't figured out how to get my moonclips to set on top of the previous one in the server. Mine all lay in edge to edge.
  18. Based on your disability you can request a new classification per the last paragraph in Appendix 8.
  19. My oldest son had muscular dystrophy and had an electric wheel chair - couldn't stop him except in sand. When we lived in Albuquerque 20 odd years ago, I put knobby bike tires on his chariot and he would plow through the sand. We lived in on base in loop housing and he would tow other kids in a wagon around the loop. Seeing this thread made me think of him and how tough he was. Thanks for the memories! Good luck!!
  20. This should have earned you a PE since you performed a "speed reload" and did not stow the magazine before the next round was fired.
  21. Thanks, I emailed Kathy and got clearance for the cart. Now, all I have to do is find one...
  22. Looking for someone who is renting a golf cart for the single stack. I'm shooting the revolver nationals on Sunday and wanted to bring the wife along but she's got a busted ankle and can't walk the range. I'd take over the cart for the next day or even split the rental.
  23. I had a 646 and a 610. Shooting .40 in both, there was no comparison - the L-frame 646 was much faster, even shooting major. Given the choice of using it as a hunting tool, I'd probably go with the 610 just because of the capability of shooting 10mmM. I am solving that issue though because I am having my GP100 converted to 10mm so I'll have my L-frame sized gun and the capability to shoot 10mmM. Guess I'll have to get rid of my .41 Redhawk then - NOT! Travis, I'd shoot both the 686 and the GP100 before I made a decision. Like Wayne said - it depends on who you ask. My GP100 is tuned and the action is every bit as good as my tuned 686 so don't let anyone tell you that the GP can't be tuned. You'll have to decide for yourself which you like better. They're both great revolvers.
