  1. Maybe you could try increasing your crimp. The tension on the bullet in the case may be different between each cartridge leading to the wide variation in velocities. The majority of the tension comes from resizing the brass. If the bell is not exactly uniform between each case and the bell is barely removed then the tension can be different between each round. I make sure to not only remove the bell, but to crimp the case mouth to the bullet. I find I can adjust my crimp die quite a bit from just removing the bell until it starts making marks in the plating or coating of lead bullets.
  2. Well, technically it is a modification. It's just a modification you don't know you're doing. That click you feel when you get to 16 and then transition through is a micro-shave off of the back of the follower. Over time, that shave will become more pronounced and you won't feel it anymore. Waddya know, I am a gunsmith and didn't even know it modifying my mags by loading them. Ha Ha! I love the TTI mag extensions, I have 6 for 40, 10 for 9mm and 4 for my Pmags. Who do I see about getting sponsorship? I have a bunch of mags that still need extensions!! Hee Hee!
  3. The pancake (Raven) type of holsters are great for concealed carry or close to the body type of carry. For gun games the fold in half type holsters are much more popular especially with a drop attachment. If you want to shoot single stack with your range officer, it will need to be the belt type without a drop attachment. I own no less than 20 different holsters for all my different guns and disciplines of shooting/carrying. Make a bunch of different styles and decide what suits you best. My current favorites are Safariland ALS holsters for gun games and Crossbreed type hybrid holsters for carry.
  4. The 6378 will have the barrel protruding out the bottom the holster. I have a couple of them and that is what I currently use for 3gun and USPSA. It works fine , but I would like better protection. Holster Ops has a 7TS series that is ALS, made from a new (temperature stable) material, made for the 5 inch models, and is almost as economical as the 6378 and 6377 series holters. I also think it looks better then their lined kydex models. I love the ALS holsters, placing your thumb on the release makes for a good high grip from the start. Once the button is depressed, you simply lift the gun with no resistance like you get with a "squeezing" holster. The only caveat is that the front sight must go through a channel in the ALS mechanism. My front sight would bang into the front of this channel breaking off many beads from my fiber front sight rod. I would be left with a front sight with a hole through it. Once I chamfered or made a funnel in the front of this channel I have had no issues with losing fibers and haven't had to replace a fiber in a year and a half. It took me about 5 minutes to complete the fix.
  5. Your storm lake is the 5" version? That price sounds incredible.... edit* it's 149 now. Still a pretty good price Yep 5" barrel. I did get it about 3 or so years ago, so the price may have gone up.The barso looks good, hopefully it shoots well.
  6. I am very happy with my Storm Lake barrel. Accuracy is much better then stock barrel (early 9 pro). The only issue is a tight chamber. I had some Freedom remanufactured that would not chamber in the Storm Lake barrel. I resized them in a Lee factory crimp die and all was well. All of my reloads use a U-die for sizing and a factory crimp die for crimping.
  7. I agree, great product. Switching calibers or bullet weights is a piece of cake. Multiple dispensers are a thing of the past.
  8. I must be an idiot. I never thought to remove the pins and remove the toolhead to dump powder. I have always removed the fail safe rod and two screws that hold the powder dispenser on and dumped that way.
  9. I use the TTI extensions for my 40 Pro in Limited. I did not have to do any modifications to the followers. When loading, I get to the 16th round and I can feel the follower catch, a little push and it slips past and I can continue to load. I have not had any malfunctions using these extensions even though there is a "catch" while loading. When unloading the mags by hand I do not feel any catch so the followers are able to slide up the mag smoothly. I can fit 20 rounds in all of my mags, but reloading on a closed slide can be tricky. It is 50/50 whether the mag will lock in or not. I only load 19 rounds for a mag on my belt and 20 rounds in the first magazine at the start of a COF.
  10. Once you receive it, please give us a report.
  11. In my opinion bigger is better for eye protection. Something that provides full frontal, side and bottom protection. I prefer the one piece lenses with minimal framing that sit close to the face. This type of eye protection gives the best protection without going to a goggle. The frame is almost as important as the lens. The frame must be able to hold the lenses in place in case the frame is impacted as well as the lens. The eye protection that provide ANSI Z87.1-2010 protection only provide the minimum impact protection required for shooting sports. I will not use anything unless it meets the military MIL-PRF 31013 protection requirements. Eye protection that meet the military requirements can be had from Oakley, Smith Optics, Revision, ESS and UVEX. There is an informative article on the Lucky Gunner website under the Labs link at the top menu bar. I drew a lot from the article and it pushed me buy once/cry once and get some Oakley M2.0 glasses. What I was wearing previously just wasn't adequate. For those of you who wear regular prescription glasses to shoot, the article will be eye opening.-pun intended! For those that are using Rudey Project Glasses, where are the impact protection ratings listed? Is there any information on their frames ability to hold the lens in the event of an impact? I really like the look of the glasses and their lenses have great optical clarity, but the information listed on the website is pretty sparse concerning impact protection.
  12. Thanks for the info. I have not seen an officially licensed version anywhere. Can you point me to a website?
  13. Wow, their prices are almost double what I paid for my storm lake 9mm barrel from Midway ($129). Is barsto worth the extra cost? My storm lake is pretty accurate. My stock 40 barrel has no accuracy issues.
  14. Thanks for a great match Sunday. The stages were excellent and challenging. They were a lot more technical than what I am used to. I am looking forward to next year, I will definitely be putting FWRR on my match schedule.
  15. I love it on my pistols. I never worry about going to slide lock during a stage. Just slam in a new mag and go.
  16. I am a Safariland fan. An ALS holster gives security and a fast draw at a good price. A 6377, 6378 or the new 7TS series is perfect for 3gun, USPSA or even the shooting sport that shall not be named. By indexing your thumb on the ALS release you are achieving a high grip on your pistol. Once the button is depressed, there is no resistance to lifting out the pistol. There is no drag like a holster that squeezes the gun for retention like the Bladetech's or similar rigs with set screw retention. You can have a belt loop, low-medium-high UBL, paddle, QLS, ELS, or even a tech-loc adaptor for belt attachment. I use the QLS system and have only one belt with a dozen different holsters. (M&P, Glock, with light, no light, etc.) My mag pouches, thankfully, are universal and fit my 9mm and 40 mags for all pistols.
  17. I used SSS for guide rods, I believe Wolf sells guide rods on their site. In both my 9 Pro and 40 Pro I am using 13lb ISMI springs. I shoot 130pf in 9mm and 168pf 40 ammo . The 9 is ridiculously easy to shoot, it is like a 22 and I use it for 3gun. The 40 shoots like a 9 with factory ammo. A little muzzle flip and dip when cycling. I tried an 11lb spring, but it was too unreliable. I had some failures to go into battery with each pistol. I use small base dies for both rounds and all will easily pass a plunk test. 13lb is the lowest I would go for springs without lightening slides.
  18. I tried the 9C, but like all short, fat compacts, I could not get the hang of it. I have tried the G26, XD compact and the 9C. None of them felt right with my pinky dragging. I would have to go to a full size mag with grip extension to be able to shoot them decent. There were no reliability issues with any of them, I just couldn't shoot them. Also, if I am going to carry something that wide, I will carry a full size. Enter the Shield, slim, compact, easy to carry. I only use the 8 round magazines which I can get my pinky on. I pinky drag on the 7 rounders. I shoot this pistol well, almost as good as a full size. I pocket carry so my pistol gets full of lint. 6 months of neglect, ridicuously full of lint and dry as a bone I finally shot the thing to change carry ammo and no hiccups with the rounds in the gun or my spare carry magazine. I highly recommend the Shield over the 9C any day.
  19. Toledo are says hello! Where abouts in Ohio are you located?
  20. Both of my Pro M&P's have the small spring and plunger. I have yet to have any trigger issues in many thousands of rounds.
  21. I have been looking at Ghost. This just adds to their favorability. We are lucky to have so many great companies in the shooting sports.
  22. In my opinion, avoid Arredondo for serious use (bad experience with them). Use TTI (highly recommended) or taylor freelance. I have had excellent results with both and they have held up to serious use. I can't comment on on Dawson, I have had no experience with them, but they are aluminum and have a strong following, so I wouldnt hesitate to try them. In my opinion nothing will beat TTI. Well constructed and the retention is so simple and fool proof.
  23. We are not shooting bullseye here. If you want to shoot 1/2 moa targets at 600yds then worry about contact with the key/gastube. Otherwise it is a non issue unless it is severe and causing malfunctions. If you are having short stroking with tula or wolf then there might be an issue with gas block alignment or your barrel port may be spec'd for 556 ammo. Smaller ports for 556 ammo typically run good 223 ammo well but will sometimes choke with the weaker russian stufff. The amount of gas leakage is normal for any AR.
  24. For 223 ammo (AR223) I get around 2600 fps out of my 10.5" barrel. 556 ammo (AR556) is about 80fps higher. Figure about 50fps lost for each inch of barrel length less than 16". The ammo listed above is factory Federal.

    Trap Gun

Frankly, I think that is an awfully ignorant statement. The longevity of the 1100 speaks for itself. Not many auto loaders have stood the test of time like the 1100 series.
