  1. I'm 67 and hope I'm not! I'm down to 4 lbs of Clay Dot, and 1 lb of Clays the good old stuff, so I need to find some. Or start using the 12 lbs of Titegroup I have next year. Just ordered 2 more flats of f100's, down to 1 flat of them left and 3+ flats of fed/cci.
  2. ICORE Rules at times are "loose" shall we say? 6.10 says A revolver may only compete in a single Division that must be declared prior to the start of competition. I interpreted that, at local matches, to be you can't sign up to shoot multiple divisions with the same gun at once, meaning you can't sign up in Open/Limited with the same Revolver and just shoot once. Locally we've shot up to 2 Divisions with the same Revolver so we can double our primer usage! And not slow down the squad. As for moon clip holders, try to find (or make them) Kydex Holders like North Mountain made. https://www.revolversupply.com/moon-clip-holders/ might still sell some and they allow you to use the same holder for all of the moon clips. As for moon clipping the .44's, I'd probably not do it again. Finding RN bullets for the .44 for ICORE are a pain and the moon clips that I got were loose and easily damaged. I've not used the magnetic holders, so you might need to find someone who does have them and find out. I'll see if I can't contact a buddy who would know. The longer the barrel the less the sight picture requires refinement. There's a reason dot shooters like shorter barrels, less weight out front to stop on the next target and less movement if they have to go into a port. With a Dot you're not hindered by a short barrel, with iron sights a longer barrel will have less bullet dispersion for the sight picture. I'd recommend skipping moon clipping a .44 and go with a 929, unless you can find a 6 1/2" M25 that may take a longer search. If you load your own rounds you're welcome to shoot my 4" M29 with or without moon clips.
  3. Alliant clay dot is the same as clays. I started using it about the time the Australian plant ceased production.
  4. Tk custom hammer is the lightest and takes minor fitting of the da sear. If you're a uspsa member and get front sight magazine check last years issues, spring time I think, I published an article there on this issue.
  5. Go to DLsportscustom.com Dave lauck, think he sells a beavertail grip for s&w revolvers.
  6. Look at the Hogue xframe grip or pachmyr or something that covers the back strap.
  7. I think the issue was due to a semiauto telescoping rounds oal when feeding. A small change drastically increased pressures. But beware it was an issue in 2011's and especially glocks.
  8. you should've said tried a special wound spring and it didn't work? Just think if it had worked?! We'd all be running out to the office supply store.
  9. Hey warren, heading to the irc with Darren, going to use the pro you helped me with as my main gun! It's working great. Anyone know where to find a couple of stars for a 627, my PC needs timed.
  10. And it does reduce the chances that something will hit the barrel hard enough to dislodge it.
  11. Agreed the majority of ICORE stages here in the Midwest are 6 shot friendly. But the 7th or 8th make up shot can be helpful, or on steel.
  12. It adds a layer of comfort when holstering, it seems to help me guide the revolver into the correct position. Seems not all N Frame trigger guards are equal. I ran mine for a year without the rod and never had a problem in a match. Did have it not get seated a few times in practice and once it almost fell out. With my 5" 625PC and 627PC I've not had issues since. With my 4" 627 Pro I just have to be more careful unless I shorten the adapter to fit.
  13. I'm always amazed that the primer ignites from the snapping of the anvil. I've wondered is it the heat of the snap or spark such as a flint? For something so critical I've just never bothered to research it.
  14. Well I ran stock hammers and 5.5# actions with fed primers with no light strikes for years. Could go to 7.5# action and light off everything else, never tried wolf primers though. 2 years ago upgraded to the tk light hammer, lightest on the market, and was able to drop the action to 4.5# with fed primers. Been running all 3 icore guns with same set ups and fed, cci and fiocchi primers since with no light strikes. It can make a difference but if you must use the heavier primers, it's probably going to gain you less than a pound on the overall action. You can gain more by smoothing up everything and going with a lighter than stock rebound spring.
  15. The new CCI's are supposed to be more sensitive, even to indirect impact (the sales ad claims). I have some and they've been as good as the Federals I have. Actually using them in my 625PC & 325TR with 45 GAP brass for L6 with a 5 lb action and haven't had a light strike yet. But I've only fired about 2500, though several hundred have been used in matches ya know where Murphy stalks us. And they do feed well in my 1050. I just can't bring myself to trust them for serious matches yet.
  16. If you run a light action the Apex FP Spring is the lightest I've found. I've tried Factory, Apex, TK, RP and C&S and really like the C&S best with an Apex FP Spring. I've broken them all AND has several FP Springs collapse, split and fail. Doug is right about changing them. I try to put both in new at the beginning of the season and keep spares in my bag. But I do shoot a bit more than normal, put it this way my 1050 is trying to break me or me it! Now for the IRC!
  17. For the 38 i use a dillon 9mm taper crimp to .368". Plated and jacketed, without a crimping groove, have always been problems for me with pullout. I've settled on coated bullets, just as clean shooting and as accurate as plated or jacketed. Be careful, too much crimp with a jacketed bullet can collapse the case and can cut through the plating on a plated bullet. A plated bullet can even separate with too much crimp, and never solves the pullout. Welcome to the club!
  18. Good to see you're still around Doug, side note cliff even came out of hiding and shot the free state with us kicked my butt for sure even with his 6 shot, what factory cartridge uses f100m primers?
  19. My favorite rear sight is factory.196. Deepest notch out there. Midway sells a complete assembly, supposed to be in stock tomorrow, or just the blade to convert any factory.
  20. Been running new cci 500 in my 45 acp 625 with a 5# action with no problems. Will find out on feds have some f100m being delivered tomorrow, loading for the irc. Remingtons I've used haven't been close.
