  1. Bob has been up here in the Midwest several times, great guy. I am so envious of you guys, short sleeves, running revolvers and under clear blue skies. God smiles on you, enjoy it for the rest of us.
  2. On another thread I started a poll, and am surprised by the numbers. Just a few years ago I did another and this latest one already has close to 3x the response.
  3. Guilty as charged, but i sat it with a smile.
  4. Unfortunately for your narrative the revolver world is happy, discussions don't equate to unhappy. We are small and I think that's good. Keeps the agitators busy elsewhere.
  5. Now that is disturbing, my impression of lead free primers is not good. Is it goodbye to our light action happy pills?
  6. Me thinks a few extra pages have just been added to this thread.
  7. That was what was talked about on the livestream, I sat through 10 hours to finally hear it. Though driver8m3 is the ad who brought it up, so I would defer to him for accurate information.
  8. Optics with irons in revolver division. the uspsa rules committee is looking to put out a survey on whether optics will be allowed in revolver division. There is no talk at this time to add, or eliminate, any divisions. Optics would be an option but not mandatory, by the rules, in revolver division.
  9. Note there was no discussion about removing any division. The comments by area 8 was that he had been approached by members who would like to be able to shoot optics in revolver division. The inference was it would help old eyes. My guess is this is a byproduct of the increasing popularity of optics on all types of handguns.
  10. My understanding is uspsa wont mail fs mags overseas. They still offer them here, unless you opt out. Personally I prefer a real magazine.
  11. I was wrong too! The window files have a safe side on the top or bottom. The angled file is a tapered cut. The squared file is a straight cut. What I used was a 1911 frame/slide file has the proper safe sides to fit https://www.brownells.com/tools-cleaning/gun-tools/handgun-tools/1911-slideframe-rail-file/ Just checked it on my 8 shot 627 and it looks like it would work. Toolguy or Revoman might know of better files, might PM them.
  12. I had googled it and the IPSC website listed what I wrote, I didn't think it was accurate and had a query I posted on the IPSC Revolver FB page answered that the Rule Book posting is incorrect? Thanks for the verification though.
  13. I can't argue against Toolguy's perception, Except that when you find USPSA Revolver competitors it's worth the effort. And Toolguy you're very fortunate to have a local club with a pretty solid group of USPSA Revolver competitors. And I'd argue that outside of me, all of the others even those who shoot Revolvers with us only occasionally, are some of the best to be around. The other's I just ignore, there are those kind in every group.
  14. One reason for these types of polls is to differentiate between the average competitor and those who seek ?more? The IPSC argument is a valid one, but it actually affects only a few of our best. (Reviewing the current IPSC rule book it looks like you can't shoot 7 or 8 shots from a Revolver. Must reload after 6 shots. MWP or Fishbreath would know more I'm sure, but if you must shoot 6 shots in IPSC I would think it would be Major PF. That's a different enough platform that I don't know if the Dot argument would be that critical?) I just received an answer on the IPSC Revolver FB Forum that IPSC Does Allow 8 shot Revolvers to be shot to capacity. So my original thought was that IPSC adopted 8 shot after USPSA, and that would also change the dynamics.
  15. Try this https://www.brownells.com/tools-cleaning/general-gunsmith-tools/files-engraving-tools/sw-cylinder--hand-window-files/ I think it's what I used on my 625 star. Or might find something here https://www.brownells.com/search/?page=1&search=files
  16. At our local December USPSA Match we created a "Revolver Category" so we could track and compare all Revolvers. Two of us shot Open Division/Revolver Category, I even loaded 357 magnums at Major PF and used a Dot. 4 others shot Revolver Division/Revolver Category (2 shot minor and 2 shot 6 shot major). The winner was an 8 shot minor iron sighted Revolver. The major PF did not bother me, but Optics slowed me down or cost me points as I struggle with them. I swear on a couple of stages that had real close targets I never even saw the dot. It surprised me that my points were as good as they were. Curious note the 2 new to USPSA Revolvers did not shoot Optics.
  17. As a side note the last time a Poll was run on this topic it came out 50-50. I posted it a couple of years ago and it was not meet with enthusiasm. But times do change and Handgun Optics are becoming quite popular even with factory offerings. Personally it would make no difference to me. I shoot Iron Sights better than Optics, always have even with an Open gun back in the early '90's. I made Open master with a compensated Caspian Hi-cap, switched to a Dot and my scores fell. In Steel Challenge I routinely shoot both ISR and OSR and my times are usually several seconds slower with the Dot. Now if I was to commit to Optics that may reverse. But I prefer Iron Sights and doubt if I would change to Optics, but? So personally it matters not to me. I will continue to shoot Revolver Division in USPSA regardless of what changes happen.
  18. In effect it might, but in scoring it would not. They are not even talking of mandating Optics use. It may well be all of the top competitors would switch to Optics but it would not create another Division. And IMHO I do not think Revolver Division would survive separating into 2 Divisions.
  19. Once you have voted, please respectfully express your thoughts on this subject. I am hoping that this will help USPSA make a decision that will help, not hurt, our beloved Revolver Division.
  20. The USPSA Rules Committee is looking into some Rules changes in Revolver Division. Specifically allowing, not mandating, the use of Red Dot Optics. This may be a chance for USPSA Revolver Competitors to help guide this discussion.
  21. Ok the USPSA Board did not make any motions on revolvers. They referred it to Russel Fourtney? Area 8 Director and chairman of the Rules Committee. That is where the process will begin. The subject was to allow Optics in Revolver Division. As several have notable skilled Revolver Competitors have stated they believe this would force them to use a Dot. As a general rule, and with the current trends in course design, they are correct. Competitors will give up some points for not having a Dot. But it's also not a given several of the Classifier HHF's show a benefit for Iron Sights. Things like close targets negate the advantages, SH/WH can also negate a Dots advantage (only at closer ranges though). So it is going to be put to the Rules Committee with a survey that will include questions such as 1) if you shoot Revolver Division, 2) possibly what your class is, 3) what are your main Divisions, 4) would this entice you to shoot Revolver, 5) would it cause you to leave Revolver Division.... The Board did not show a negative, or even indifferent, reaction. Two suggestions 1) contact the Area 8 Director, President, your Area Director (Area 3 shooters send it to the President) about this subject and express your thoughts, 2) I am going to create a new Thread with a Poll and we can all vote and express our thoughts. The Board will be aware of our poll and it may help them make a decision.
  22. I think Numrich Arms had some 8 shot cylinders with star. I have been told S&W won't sell the ratchet star/ejector for 8 shots, even to FFL Gunsmiths?
  23. Correct AD's aren't paid, but they can get reimbursed for expenses. Your comments are so true, and can be said of virtually every group I've ever been involved with. From Unions to Gun Clubs to Charity Organizations.
  24. Area 7 Director is back.
