  1. I shot a stage, mid match, once with full power magnums 125 sjhp at 1450 f/s, using starline brass and tight moon clips. Scared the RO a bit, even though I'd warned him. Thumped the hand but worked just fine. A full load of 2400 or H110/296 will definitely fill a case. I read where a European Revolver competitor had loaded Short Colt or Long Colt to major PF back when we had only 6 shots in IPSC. Don't know how it worked in the long term for him though. Might be as simple as finding the right powder and setting up a light on your press. I ended up putting a mirror and a light on my 1050 so I can look right down into the case.
  2. Don't think the 38 super n frames can shoot 9mm without reaming the cylinder. And they use different moon clips. Why not a 627 with 38 specials, you can reach major with it. If you go custom barrel and add a real comp and 6"+? Jess kicked my butt at least years free state with a special. But I got it, doesn't have to be reasonable to be desirable.
  3. One benefit would be the expanding of the chamber mouths, like a real aggressive chamfering job. Don't know if it's worth the$300 though, just for that. Maybe to be able to find cases, or even ammo, would be a benefit. But what of the downsides? Will accuracy be what is needed with either 9mm or so, specials or magnums? If you have other 38's will it cause issues with using 38 cases from the 9m over time? But the revolver looks great and I am sure tk did a top notch job. Enjoy it and don't fret over us, we are jealous.
  4. Free Lunch where? I'm hungry already!
  5. He means under recoil the revolver moves rearward and the bullet wants to stay stationary. It doesn't of course but it does retard the movement and that is what causes bullets to creep forward.
  6. Depends! Generally heavier bullets will back out in a revolver due to more mass resisting recoil. BUT lighter bullets with less bearing surface and longer overall lengths can do so just as easily. Further plated bullets use soft lead and can hold a crimp profile more than brass cases that have been fired many times and become weak. And jacketed bullets are harder to crimp deeply without collapsing a case. I've had best luck with coated bullets with long bearing surface and seated with half of the bullet inside the case. One of the issues with a 9mm is the tapered case. I would surmise that the case tension decreases toward the base of the bullet. It may be one needs to use a roll crimp with a camnelure, and that won't totally eliminate it. One of the worst I've had was my m29, cut for moon clips, using 240 lrn at major pf Even with a roll crimp and a deep camnelure they would back out. Luckily I rarely shot 5 from a clip!
  7. Jacketed and plated have always exhibited pull out issues in my revolvers and set back issues in my semi autos. Lead and coated take more exposures to show up though. Pretty consistent among calibers too. Older cases are more prone.
  8. Have a buddy who shoots a 929 and used 320 with 160 in 9mm. Swears by it.
  9. Last year we had 16, as kellyB said 13 right now, most on one squad. We have the legendary cliff Walsh, marvelous mike Carmoney and the classy Kelly brown. Revolver is the 4th highest division, if you aren't shooting optics or limited your shooting revolver! Even pcc is in the backwaters. Hope you can make it.
  10. Fit mine. I fired about 40 rounds of 38 short colt through a buddies 929 while writing an article for Front Sight. I've since loaded them on my 1050 at least twice and shot them through my 627 Pro & PC without issues. I've kept them segregated as I'm curious too about their life and haven't used them in any matches. Practice only so far and have put them aside for the season. They didn't give me any problems with moon clips or during reloads. Being a close friend of Murphy? I don't plan on using them in matches. And I have no idea what will happen if they were to be shot multiple times through a 929.
  11. You can shoot 38 short colt in a 929 with no issues, you have to use the 627 moon clips. It swells the base of the case slightly more but sizes back down. Probably shortens case life a little. A lot cheaper than a new cylinder though.
  12. ICORE and USPSA are different but each can help your game in the other. In USPSA I've found, generally for myself, that if I push for speed and have sloppy hits my HF is not much different than if I shot better points at a slower pace. It's definitely not a hard and fast rule but a broad personal observation. Personally I try to shot 90%+ A's in USPSA and no time added in ICORE, it has to do with mindset and focus and I don't dwell on not meeting those expectations. For instance at the 2014 USPSA Revolver Nationals (I was 57 years old) I shot my normal style, dropped several shots and a few more D's than I liked (but was 3rd in the Standards) I ended up 17th overall and won High Senior. At the 2022 USPSA Revolver Nationals (I was 65 years old) I deliberately shot to not drop any shots. I achieved my goal and shot a clean match with only a few D"s and no misses, no-shoots or penalties. But I was also shooting at a slower pace. I ended up 18th overall and took Top Super Senior. Everyone is different and you need to find the pace that fits you.
  13. One can not insinuate that an underlug on a factory firearm is added just for weight/competitive advantage. It may well be just cause it "looks" good. If you want a competitive/gamer gun for USPSA it's an 8 shot 5"+ of whatever manufacturer you like and/or can afford. The same gun will work in ICORE Limited. ICORE tends to try NOT to over legalize the rule book. Now if you want a truly gamer ICORE Limited Revolver, find/make a 10 shot 32 caliber Revolver. Just no Compensator, porting or optics.
  14. There was an ipsc revolver guy in europe who claimed to shoot major with a short colt. The short colt is not designed for magnum pressures. If you must I'd say just use magnums with proper tight moonclips. I've done it just to see locally, still scored minor. BUT if you truly want to focus on icore etc...then you want all a's, so shooting open with a revolver it will be an extra incentive to hit a's. I understand your efforts though, making use of every available discipline to get better. I even shoot idpa in their special division. I look at local matches as opportunities to practice putting everything together under pressure.
  15. The assumption is that if you're buying aftermarket firing pins, you are trying for the lowest action and Federal 100's and 150's have proven to be the easiest to ignite.
  16. Thought it might have been a typo. Usually my 9mm loads are under 1.150, depending on bullet length.
  17. I had the same experience years ago, quit using the fcd.
  18. 1.268 is really long for a 9mm? I taper my 38 short colts and 9mm, in semi auto's, to.370, or less in my revolvers.
  19. Several points, 1 take it these are reloads? 2 see any cracked cases? 3 was it random range brass, or bulk brass you're using? Cracked cases can allow this, or if the brass had been used in a 9mm major loading. 9 major stretches and abuses the case horribly. Everything from not holding a crimp to primers not staying seated. I'd bet one of those 2 issues. Recommendation of gritting your teeth and buying good new brass for match loads, you don't lose them and they will last over a dozen reloadings without those kind of issues.
  20. The jpoint actually sells a shim for their dot. Others may also. Haven't needed any yet for my dpp or vortex, both venom and viper.
  21. pskys2

    price check

What didn't fit? I put a tk hammer in 3 n frames and all 3 needed stoning of the da seer. Not a lot but enough.
  22. Only need 1 to make 120 in icore or 3 to average 125 in uspsa. At local level it's more about how they perform for accuracy. So I'd bet they would be fine.
