Hey Squirrel, yeah, I talked to Karl, he was very cooperative, gave me a couple of dates he was coming up to the Sig Academy in September and October if I wanted to have him drop anything off to save on shipping.

The object of the game is to see how long you can keep them on the line. I love when they call during my drive home from work. For some reason the Amazon callers hang up faster than most, after asking my name. They must somehow be verifying the info as you tell it to them.

I agree with Raz, I shot a Gen3 34 in Production for almost 20 years and loved it. Now I’m in CO and have similar Gen5 17 & 34. The only difference is the 34 is an MOS and the 17 has been milled. In my head I think the 17 is faster, and I trust it more because I’ve sheared screws twice on the mos plates. If you already have one, you can have the slide milled, or just get another slide. if you are buying new, and it’s just for range/competition I would skip the MOS and get the slide milled all the way back with no rear sight notch.

Thanks for the info Nolan. I'm still wondering if anyone is actively using any of those holders, and if so, how do they work? I did send GT Targets an email asking about shipping but haven’t heard back. Might have to give them a call.

I remember way, way back in my 40 cal days we were all marking our brass and then sorting it all out at the end of the match my the markings.

Ok, if nobody is using these, what are you all using for single clay target holders that are durable enough to hold up for a match? If you are making your own, please provide some details and pics if possible so I can try and find someone local to make some for me. Thanks, -Cuz

On the rare occasions I get to practice, I lay a tarp down to catch most of the brass and make it easy to pick up. At a match, it's much more scattered and harder to pick up. After the match, my back is way too sore to go around and pick up brass. It's just one of those decisions we're forced to make. The pain penalty I'd have to pay to go around and pick up brass is not worth the effort, even though I'd surely be able to pick up 3 or 4 times as much as I shot. I'm just too tired and sore. But, 15+ years ago, I would surely take a walk around after a match and pick up roughly twice as much as I shot, only because nobody seemed to want it.

I'm looking for a durable single clay target holder for a shotgun match. I know a lot of you skilled guys are making your own, but I'm not one of those guys. I found a lot of holders online, that don't look durable enough to survive a shotgun match, and only two that look like they would. MGM Targets makes makes a set of 6 for $152 which look very nice, but are expensive. GT Targets makes a set of 12 for $120 which is much more reasonable: http://www.gttargets.com/ShotGunand3GunTargets.htm I just can't find any decent pics of reviews online. I know both MGM and GT make good stuff and sponsor lots of shooting events. Is anyone out there using the GT Target holders and if so, can you provide any feedback as to their longevity and durability? I think they should be sending you 1 of each model to “evaluate”. It seems odd that the carry version of the eps doesn’t have an auto brightness option.

I think it’s time for a detailed cleaning and lubing of the press.

I’m not sure I’d replace the spring in my 26, but I’ve always used ISMI flat springs in my full size competition Glocks. Just a couple months ago I picked up a Carver heavy tungsten rod for my Gen5 17 and it requires the Wolff round recoil springs so now I’m using those. I don’t have a lot of experience with it, but I really can’t see much difference between them. As far as what you mean by better, not sure how long they last would matter to me, they are cheap enough to keep spares on hand and replace when you clean the gun, which for me is every 18-24 months.

The California Competition Works 4 and 6 shell holders would be my choice for defensive use.

My problem with this is that usually everyone else’s plan is better than mine..

I shoot Glocks, so I have a primary, and 3 backup guns. They all started out as primary guns, and then at some point I bought a new Glock and it baca me the primary, and so on and so on. I also used to bring a bunch of spare parts with me to matches in case something goes wrong. Now I just toss one of the backups into a rug with a set of mags and bring that. It’s much easier that way.

This seems like a very reasonable idea, and would be easy enough to implement.

Interesting, as a lefty, I hit the cylinder release with my left trigger finger, push out the cylinder with my right thumb, then eject with my right index finger, and grab a moon clip and load with my left hand, then use my right fingers to close the cylinder as I regain my grip and resume firing. It almost feels like Revo's were meant for leftys...

I think the best way to “dabble” in Open is to shoot CO.

I think you’re missing what is being suggested. Nobody is saying a paid membership is required to participate. Everyone would always be welcome to participate. But the “members” willing to pay an annual fee, would maybe get some sort of badge or identifier to distinguish them as a “contributor”.

I’m not sure I totally agree, but I understand what you’re saying. But, for someone starting out, there’s no reason they cant start with an open minor gun and run it for a year or 2 developing the skills they need, while not having to worry too much about the gun, or reloading, etc. plus, during that time they will learn what they really want in an open gun. What caliber to choose, etc. I think something like a Checkmate can be a sound investment to get yourself up and running in Open.

Plus there’s the fact that an Open minor gun will pretty much run forever with very little maintenance. The same can not be said for an Open major pistol. It’s not really a problem, you just have to understand that there is an increased level of maintenance involved in keeping the gun running. If you’re shooting Open major for the points advantage, the last thing you want is to start losing time in a match due to gun issues. Your gun pretty much needs to run flawlessly.
