  1. I'll go you one better....the other day I heard Frankie goes to Hollywood singing Relax while at the grocery store....and the shame of it, I was in the produce section laughing out loud... I mean really! You're standing there sniffing the melons trying to find one that's sweet and ripe and suddenly you hear "Relax - don't do it, when you want to come" ???!!!! And I live basically at the buckle of the bible belt?! Surreal, without a doubt!
  2. My reply would be to query, "What, are you working your way up to manslaughter or going for the big 187?" in the most condescending tone I could muster. That or I'd insult the hell out of him and wait for him to take the first swing. Drunk people are usually easier to introduce the floor, multiple times.
  3. Yup, done that a time or two - slipped off once and got a nice cut on my calf. It's so silly that a bruise, the type that would normally not be such a big deal, could hurt so much just because it sits on top of a toe knuckle! It's getting all colorful today; blue, yellow, red, purple - rainbow toe!
  4. This is one of those things that belongs in the "things you only do once thread" but you can't put it there because you know you're going to do it again! Man - I actually have a big ol' bruise on my big toe knuckle.
  5. Ever been practicing reloads at the range and drop a fully loaded mag on your foot? OUCH! Ewww, that hurts!
  6. Just to be fair, the ladies squad then needs a group of shredded hot bods to serve as towel boys!
  7. I watched her last night and felt so badly that she missed the gold by .01 seconds. She welled up on the podium but was still so gracious to the German competitor. The relay race was starting almost directly after the ceremony which didn't allow her hardly any time for warm down/warm up. After such an emotionally moment, she still had to screw her head on and give the other women on the American team her best to get them all another medal. And she did it turning in a personal best time. What a competitor! And what she told the reporter after the relay race about her .01 loss was equally impressive, "I've thought hard about it and I can't find where I would have changed anything."
  8. So...I'd like to hear if anyone has any stories about Roy Bohmfalk and/or Albert Nichols. Roy shot in the Big Bear Valley days with Jeff and later at SWPL. For 50yd standards, he always shot supine rather than prone. He practiced with Albert Nichols and Jack Weaver. Roy knew Jeff well enough that when our shooting class went to Gunsite to take a Louis Awerbuck shotgun class, everyone ended up at Jeff's house for BBQ. Roy isn't shooting anymore. I keep trying to convince him to write down all his early IPSC stories. He still has match scores and stage descriptions. I may need to take a trip to visit him and haul along a laptop and scanner.
  9. An eating, training, resting machine....Maybe he'd recover faster on a zone diet? I take that back.... he might be zoning - 5 egg omelet? And energy drinks with lunch and dinner? 12000 calories....Wow!
  10. From the current WS thread, here is the link to the US State Department Directorate of Defense Trade Controls ...doesn't work well with firefox by the way..."optimized for IE 5 and 6" Here is the link to the licenses section And here is the pdf link for firearms...and another pdf for additional guidance.
  11. Hopefully I opened this thread in the right place - if not, mods please move it. Given the discussions that happen every few years about getting ammo to the World Shoot, I thought the members could collectively build a guide on how to get your guns and ammo to matches outside the US. Each country has it's own import/export rules, it's true. But perhaps in addition to posting how you personally managed to get your gear there, you can list the resource you went thru - whether it was some foreign government office or IPSC regional director - you get the idea. What I would suggest is giving the match name, country, the process you went thru, and the resource you used. Anyone that has traveled internationally and shot a match could chime in.
  12. Heck, I know if any of the local GM's had made it today I'd have been humbled!
  13. Okay, yeah....gotta admit that the usual host of North Texas GM's and M's didn't make it out to the match today so it was down to the A class shooters to battle it out.... The HOA limited class winner was...me! Think I finally might be getting the hang of this stuff. At last weekend's match, all the usual suspects were present and I came in third overall.
  14. Knew if I looked hard enough I could find this post! Maybe this might help with the new phone....
  15. Congrats! It's a very cool thing to see the baby before it's born! baby factory
  16. Thank you guys for stepping up to the plate! I think we all owe you a cold one.
  17. This begs the question: how do you know what the sweat off the balls of a stray dog in Tijuana tastes like? 'Cos he went to The Long Bar, met the lady from the donkey show, and give her a kiss not knowing what she did for a living....
  18. But in her defense....splitting it meals per person may have been $40 for one and $10 for the other - i.e. 80% and 20% - not 50/50.
  19. Probably not, Riddler was in Batman Forever along with Two Face.... Speaking of two face, with this latest film, the batman movies have a "crisis of infinite earths" thing going don't they? All though I for one would be happy to see that Val Kilmer thread of existence vanish... Well, well...you may be right on this one... Depp to play Riddler?
  20. I am uncertain that Dark Knight is symbolically a movie about the war on terror. And I can't comment directly on that subject as that would be a political speech however I can offer up this little tidbit. I thought the following quote was interesting. People are generally uncomfortable with the idea of paradox and yet it seems to me that nearly all universal truths are a paradox. When everything is black and white with rigid rules, choices and decisions are easy. After seeing the movie, I made the comment to my husband that wouldn't it be odd if a few thousand years from now after some catastrophic event that erases history, some archeologist found a sci-fi geek's cache of DVD's and declared them to be the mythology of our era - similar to the greek or roman pantheon. In that vain, I actually know someone that wrote a literature paper in college regarding the symbolism of costume color choices for super heroes and villains. Super heroes generally wear primary colors (purity) and villains do not was the conclusion. She also did a paper associating Jungian archetypes with super heroes. I'm kinda thinking that Bob Kane (creator of Batman) was probably looking for a paycheck....not to say he didn't consider these things...but I bet having a meal on the table was more important.
  21. Okay...I'm posting this because it was just to darn funny in the "non-sequitur" thread We went and saw Dark Knight last night and I thought it was very good. Heath's performance as the joker was incredible! Having bought the Frank Miller Dark Knight series when DC published it, I wish the movie were a bit different. I just can't help but wish that the director was Frank Miller instead of Christopher Nolan. I am looking forward to Miller directing the movie adaption of The Spirit. I'm am also hoping that Watchmen is watchable...one of my fav comics. Maybe someday Mage or Question will make it to the screen.....
