  1. I don't expect anyone to recognize my child is a genius. This is more about a power struggle between the 1st and 2nd grade teachers with the kids being caught in the middle. These teachers know how things are done in first grade and choose to do something completely different. Something that doesn't quite make common sense - to punish kids for asking for permission. My daughter knew she was not supposed to go during lesson but she needed to go (after eating the morning snack earlier), so she asked. And because she talked, she got the write up. I did tell my daughter that rules are rules. But I also told her that if it's an emergency and she HAS to go, to just walk out of the classroom and take the demerit. A demerit doesn't carry the same stigma as wetting yourself in class. As for the demerit for skipping ahead, apparently the teacher does want work completed in sequence. She doesn't think my daughter misunderstood about being told to move on to the next section. And she may be right....I can see my daughter wanting to do similar problems from each section together and then doing the other problems together. She thinks that way, grouping and organizing things (her crayons are separated into cool and warm colors). I don't quite understand the harm in doing it that way. And the teacher didn't explain her reason for wanting it done in sequence either. Her reply essentially was that she has to be mean at the start of the year so that the rest of the year goes smoothly. My reply to that was neutral saying I'd reiterate her rules to my daughter but that there is a fine line between redirecting a child and squashing her spirit. So essentially I did what you suggested in your rebuttal.
  2. Flex...whatcha' thinking? If you wanted to get folk's attention - just use gun porn!
  3. I think if you did a search you might find there's a thread or two on mobil 1. My warning would be to not use it with moly lube bullets. Mobil one is a detergent oil and will soften up the moly lube making a hell of a mess in your chamber should some oil from the hood actually make it in there. Just ask me how I know (and how I managed a 127 second stage at an area match because my drop checked ammo wouldn't chamber).
  4. I wouldn't be so upset except that my daughter today begged me to home school her. She actually said she doesn't like going to school. Last year she was excited about having homework, went way beyond what was asked for, she loves learning. She insisted on math software for her birthday because she thinks fibonacci numbers are cool! She's in the gifted program so it's not like she's some mindless mouth breather waiting till she can get home to her xbox. BTW, the pullout reach classes start next week. I can't wait to see how this teacher handles my daughter's request for her classwork....
  5. I can count on one hand how many behavior violations my daughter had in 1st grade. She's not the kind of kid that intentionally breaks rules. She quite the opposite in fact. She hates to disappoint anyone. She has a perfectionist type of personality and is hard on herself when she does something wrong. In two weeks, she has managed to get double the amount of behavior demerits as she had in all of last year. Four of them were for talking. Who did she talk to? The teacher. What did she say? Was she back-talking? Was she interrupting? No, she asked to go to the bathroom.... I love it when a group of teachers, because they don't like the system in place that the prior grade teachers used, decide to do the complete opposite of what the students (or any other considerate, well mannered individual) would consider normal. Don't ask to go to the bathroom! Instead get a cup, put it on your desk, and just go. But don't you dare have the need to go during lesson time! Oh no, that's not allowed! You're supposed to just sit there and worry about messing yourself! Never mind the fact that I told you to eat a snack a half hour ago.... "Uh, what lesson are you talking about? I was focusing on keeping my bladder from voiding on your floor!" ARGH! Today she got a demerit for NFD - Not Following Directions...Yes, this teacher has twelve abbreviated codes at the bottom of her daily class activity sheet for rule infractions that gets sent home to parents.... When I asked my daughter to explain what happened, she said the teacher had assigned the class to start on page 20, section C. She then thought the teacher told everyone to go on to section D. She hadn't completed section C but went on to Section D - doing what she thought she was told. When the teacher checked work around the class room, she noticed my daughter hadn't done the sentences in section C and gave her a demerit - telling her not to skip ahead. I asked my daughter if the teacher had explicitly told the class to do all of C before moving on to D and she didn't think so. I then wondered if she wasn't supposed to do section D at all - no, that was part of the assignment. I then wondered if she hadn't completed the assignment in proper time. No, she was done early and read a book while she waited for the rest of class to finish.... WTF!!!!!!! I wrote a very diplomatic email to the teacher asking her to clarify her rules because I believe my daughter would be more than happy to follow them but that she just hasn't understood or learned them properly up to this point. I'm really curious as to what her answer will be. It better be damn well reasoned and well thought out. I'm a rule following type. My daughter has rules and is considered by many to be thoughtful and courteous and respectful. A lady down the street actually sent her kids off to private school when her oldest had completed 2nd grade. I now understand why. I'm thinking that my daughter is headed for the magnet school at winter break if this is going to be the SOP.... Can you tell I'm just a little wound tight about this???!!! :angry2:

  9. Anyone accidently knock the silver pin out of the mag pad? Any suggestions on how to get it back in? I didn't want to force it. The capture spring in the base looks like it uses an allen wrench but I tried both a 1/20" and a 1.5mm and they spin. The next size up is to big. There is just a little square edge visible through the hole and I can't depress it while getting the pin in...or maybe I could but I'm not sure if it's plastic or metal and didn't want to muscle it. ETA: Got it back in....I had to feed the pin through the bottom and then use a small screw driver from the top of the hole to depress the side spring - while applying slight pressure and repeating incantations....well, okay I may have actually been cursing but my hubby thought it sounded like a mantra.
  10. On the way back from TSLC, where the temperatures over the weekend were only slightly short of satan's game room, I stopped and got a :blizzard: But not the usual chocolate/cherry/walnut - I had a hankering for something different. I tried the banana cream pie blizzard with pecans and chocolate. OMG, I think I have a new favorite. It's like chunky monkey with pie crust pieces - Delish! Try it!
  11. There are two main firmware source listed in that article. One of the companies isn't playing by GPL rules according to several sources. Essentially what happened was the programmers at Linksys used open source code in the firmware, as a result, all firmware mods for that model have to be free (and Linksys themselves had to distribute their own mods free). Given the choice between the two firmware options, I'd go with the one that doesn't have a $*&t storm flying about it. Besides since DD-WRT is completely open, everyone and his brother with a decent IQ is creating new mods just to snub the other guy. Oddly enough with our router, when we removed the antenna on our wireless cards, it worked better....

    Women

OMG! You mean other women get stuck always putting the fresh roll of toilet paper on the hanger too?!? I honestly thought I was the only one.... I guess you men don't care about using toilet paper....Ewwwwww.... At least I hope you wash your hands!!!
  13. I experienced this at the TSLC last weekend on the spinning star stage. After the target fell away from the port, I could see the plates. I don't remember picking one, but suddenly something went clang and it was gone. 2nd plate when the same way and then the star stopped spinning. I remember then pulling in to a front sight focus and picked up the third one easy enough but had to take an extra shot on the last two. For me this always seems to happen on steel when I'm coming into an array. I remember it screwing me up once because it was an activator and I took it while still moving - then my timing was off cos I wasn't in the sweet spot! Cool post Brian!
  14. Had my gun pop out of it's holster at the TSLC this last weekend on the bed stage. It landed on my hand. I had to call for the RO but since my hand was under the gun and not on top of it, I was luckily saved from the dreaded DQ. Although I did stop by DQ on the drive home and had a banana cream blizzard with pecans and chocolate... YUM! But I don't think that was quite a zone meal!
  15. Yup, that would explain why it wouldn't stay on the hook, I had to grab it mid-air, but then managed to still drive the little triangle plastic feet on the bottom into my thigh. I wonder how long it takes for a 1/4" puncture wound to heal? BTW, thank you to Tammy for putting her EMT experience into play. And yes, I'm still a bitter betty about it! <insert shred monkey motion prop tossing emoticon here>

  18. Yup, that's about it....Here is the map from the range's web page. Here's what google thinks....However, the range isn't in Necessity...it's a bit further where the road does a little jog south.

  21. When I lost someone close, a friend told me this and I found it comforting. "It's not love and attachment that hurt, it's the detachment and goodbyes. Learn to say a good "goodbye" and then let go because your memories of the good times never leave you. God gave us memories so that in the dead of winter we can remember the sweet warmth of summer." A prayer of peace to help settle and strengthen your spirit in this most trying of times. Carina
  22. Well, if it stops raining, we'll be fine. Otherwise the range owners will get a whole bunch of hay and spread it about the range. About an hour later, it will look like we all hit the same sale at Walmart for fuzzy slippers.
  23. Those of you that are parents will know what I mean...I am almost as excited as she is! My kiddo just lost her first tooth at 7yrs 2mos old. She has a mouth guard box she got at the dojo (where she takes karate) that she put her baby tooth in....so the tooth fairy will be visiting later tonite. BTW, what's the going rate these days....??? Long ago for me it was .25 but I'm thinking it has to be more just based on inflation. Thankfully Dad was the one there when it came out. I think I'd have gotten a bit queasy had it been me. She just walked by me to get a glass of water to put on her night stand for the tooth fairy! That's so she can tell what color fairy dust the tooth fairy has! I gotta' say, I just love the suspension of disbelief that kids have! Being a mom just rocks!
