  1. Gotta agree with TheGirl. The match is top notch and while we got slowed down here and there because of printer issues, I thought it ran smoothly given the conditions. I just can't figure out who ticked off Mother Nature! Thanks to the match staff, RO's, and sponsors. Thank you to squad 23 for making the weather tolerable. You all kept my spirits up!
  2. Hey Brankica Psychology: The Mental Athlete by Kay Porter is a good book on sports psychology that you may be able to find a few male/female tidbits in as the author is a woman. Related to coaching indirectly, You Just Don't Understand by Deborah Tannen explains the different conversational styles between men and women. I was on a all lady team with a male coach. We bought him this book and it helped dramatically. Physiology: I've always wondered how much grip strength and upper body strength play in the male versus female shooter question. Ron Avery wrote a really good article about grip strength in an issue of Front Sight (the USPSA members magazine). I would contact someone at the USPSA headquarters and see if you can get a copy of the article.
  3. Shred, did it rain? Or is that dust?
  4. Ironic that the gun industry can't meet demand and is setting new records during the current political climate. Personally, it makes me smile!
  5. Right there with you on font changes....IKEA now uses Verdana instead of Futura IKEA font update Granted, the bible doesn't update it product selection every year....
  6. Thank God I live in Texas or I'm sure my daughter would be have been expelled over the Mom's Day card she made me at school. It was a little booklet with all kinds of questions: Q. What was your mom like when she was a little girl? A. She was very smart. I grew out of that during my teens unfortunately. Q. What things do you like to do with you mom? A. I like to snuggle. I will miss this when she outgrows it. Q. What's the difference between moms and dads? A. One is female, one is male. Did I mention my kid has a dry sense of humor. Q. Who's the boss at your house? Do you know? A. Mommy, because she's oldest. What?! Did you look at my driver's license?! Q. Why do we need to have moms? A. So we can be born, duh! No denying she's my kid, nope, not a chance. Q. What does your mom do in her spare time? A. She takes a nap That's because I'm so old. Then there is a list of mom's favorites Color: Purple (Hmmm, not actually. It might be Oprah's) Food: Chocolate (No kidding!) Sport: Shooting (of course!) TV Show: House Cleaning (I never do it so it's fascinating to watch others doing it) Restaurant: Mr. Wok (That's MISTER Wok to you!) Place to shop: Target (Where else does a shooter shop?!) Flower: Blue Bonnet (God Bless Texas!) Happy Mother's Day all you Motherf.....s
  7. Trekkies complain new film is too "fun, watchable."
  8. that cites all of the self defense with a handgun statistics? It's a professor out of a florida university....I think... I thought I had it written down but can't find it. Naturally I had a CHL student today asking about it.... Thanks!
  9. Congratulations Matt!! Just be sure that the table at the reception is sturdy enough to hold all the bullets and gun bits you'll get as wedding presents <grin> !!
  10. I was born there and moved shortly after the AR registration....All I have to say now is "God Bless Texas!!!"
  11. It does look like fun. I wanna go shoot some international matches. I've seen a pole stage before....I think there was a similar stage at the first double tap if memory serves right....Might have been a Nor Texas championship. So now there's proof that Henning has done a pole dance! Or is that a variation on bikram's eagle pose?
  12. Sound it out and then I think you'll know what it means.... bro mance
  13. Needs no further comment. Well, I beg to differ. I think that an all black gun is hell a' sexy not unlike the perennial "little black dress." Most women have more than one of those in their closets. So why not a gun? I have more than one Glock in my safe. Even my 1911's are mostly black (bake on teflon finish or darkly blued parts). All black evokes adjectives like strong, stealthy, cool. Add to that rounded curves and you can add the adjective sexy. I gotta disagree in that I think rounded corners are pragmatic not emotional. Ever catch your finger on an edge while clearing a malf? Bright chrome is flashy and if done wrong trashy. No bling for me. Well, I take that back...I do have a Colt Combat Gov't that has a hard chromed frame. That wasn't by choice. A gunsmith who was doing sponsorship work wanted to attract attention and business.
  14. Couldn't you simply use the cut off head? It has an A zone...?? There was a halloween match I recall that did exactly this. The stage was called "Headless Horseman" and the cut off target heads were randomly placed close to the target body. Isn't that legal?
  15. Here you go.... or here's another.... I may need to try a frosty noggin...

    Winston Re

Sorry Dave about your dog. A pet's unconditional love is a special thing and the loss of it is painful. After a while, it does stop hurting and then what is left is all the good memories. It just takes time to get there. Similar to your situation, Jack was the first dog I ever owned and I picked him out of a litter at the pound. He made it to 14. You did the right thing to limit Winston's suffering.
  17. Well, my faith in humanity has been restored. Shooters are indeed good folk. Some shooters up where I'm visiting asked me to meet them for lunch after their match (darn I shoulda brought my gear!). Not only did I get some birthday beer (Erdinger) but I bought me a nice AR for a decent price. He had it in his truck to sell at a gun show tomorrow. Beer and a new (to me) rifle. Happy Bday to me!!!!!
  18. Thank you all....I'm glad someone remembered..... I think I'll be wandering over to the "a plan for getting drunk" thread. No Party?! Make your own!!
  19. Jewelry is the last resort gift for a man who has eff'd up so badly that he knows he's got to go big or he's going to get dumped. It's also the guilt gift of choice for men who have done more than let their eyes wander. Any guy that offers you jewelry is one to run away from (after you've taken the rock). That was 16 years ago and no, I'm not still bitter. I took that rolex, sold it back to the same jewelry shop, and bought a 17L. A girl's got to have her priorities.
  20. Hmmmm...Buy a range...Gee, didn't USPSA try to do that and end up selling the land? Not a good idea, IMNSHO. Personally I think USSA can work. A late summer nationals before the "rainy" season would be ideal. Teachers and juniors could compete. It's centrally located with decent airfare. There are certainly a myriad of hotels and price ranges. Ditto for restaurants and entertainment. The owner shoots and wants to see the sport grow. It's just a freak coincidence that the weather patterns were bad twice. I frankly have shot at Barry in very bad weather more times than I care to remember...one year I couldn't see the 50 yard targets for the standard course! And Reno or Vegas...Yup, nearly sent my pistol off the table on a pick up stage where the table was iced over in '93. Bad weather is everywhere and is just part of the game.
