  1. Basically, slower powder means less pressure but more gas. More gas works comp better. Less pressure is always better for 9mm major speeds. I used WAC until I tried aa7 and 3n37. Both were a softer feel and flatter shooting gun. I could not see much diff in 3n37 vs aa7 other than price and 3n37 being a bit cleaner. The flatter gun mean less dot movement so faster and more accurate 2nd shots. I am about to try some shooter world major pistol powder. Then I will decide between that and aa7.
  2. ^^yep fit and finish is great. I say Akai 1. Because I have them 2. Because I tried several others before I chose Akai. There are several builders out there that make really nice stuff. In the time frame you want the gun in, it limits your choices. I have shot a chaos open, not an Atlas full custom and the fit and finish was very nice, but also noticable difference (less smooth etc) from the Akai. I have also shot SV, STI, and several other custom builders guns before going with Akai.
  3. I have not shot one yet, but I have a buddy who has one and he really likes it. I haven't seen him since he got it to try it, but I have also heard a lot of good things about them.
  4. For that time frame Atlas or Venom Custom who also builds nice stuff. I run an Akai, have shot a couple different Atlas guns and they are nice, but to me not the same level at least there Chaos models. Again they are awesome guns just not the same detail that Akai has. I have a 2nd Akai on order and this will be the 4th Akai that I have owned. I know the wait time is hard, but worth it. You can call Akai sometimes they have stuff in the works that someone has cancelled or that was just being built and that can reduce the wait time. Have a buddy who just got a chaos and its a nice gun, his wait was just over 90 days around 110 I think
  5. They are usually good about shipping within around 72hrs or so. I would call and check, I ordered 124 jhp during Cyber Monday sale and they will be here today. It could be that they ran out and are on Back Order, but normally they send out emails with status or order. So again I would call/email and at least check.
  6. Thanks, I am sure you tried and I have heard lots others say that sometimes higher PF have less dot movement from gas. I didn't really see much of a diff on mine, but at my level I might not see it. I run it at 175 because that it was felt good to me and the PF wasnt to crazy. So I am guessing your load is the same for you, based on movement and feel etc.?
  7. What PF you getting out of that load? I run 124 PD JHP, 1.165, 9.4 AA7, Fed MagPistol, and get around 175 PF I am running a full length gun though so I have a little more barrel.
  8. glockman75 I will have to try the shock buffs. I also run a cut 7# variable. part of the reason to cut them is to make sure you get the full slide motion and it is not stopping at the compression of the spring. By cutting it I am sure you are also lowering the #, but its more about the "shortening" of the spring that will also cycle the gun to get the maximum slide travel. Most people try from around 6# up to 9# or so, mine would either dip or not come back to where I wanted it, but the 7# worked great. I change my recoil and firing pin spring about every 5K rounds. Change my main spring around 10K or so.
  9. I like a full blade square notch rear. I also like something around the 110 profile for the rear and 100 for the front. I tried others including U notch rear and the same profile mention with the tapered style corners of the rear blade, but I didnt care for them.
  10. For Gen2 mags there are several videos on how to tune them. ATLAS has several out. I tuned the mags and feed lips on the Gen2 and then put TTI followers, springs, and base pads in them. They have been great since then, no problems until of course the springs fail. They did last a whole season before the springs failed.
  11. I started shooting Open in May of this year, made B class and won some Contingency money through the Akai program. I ordered a Limited gun instead of a 2nd Open. I am hoping to win enough to help fund the backup Open gun next season. I did a full size open gun as I like a heavier gun. But Akai make great stuff!!!
  12. I field strip and clean every 1k rounds or before any LvlII or higher match. Full tear down about every 5k rounds. Around 5-6k I replace the recoil spring to I just strip the gun then and look it all over.
  13. I run all STI Gen2 9mm mags. I have 6 140s and 2 170s. I tuned them basically to what ATLAS shows on their page and FB. I run all TTI guts and basepads. After tuning, I only have to slighty bend the basepad lips to get them to fit the gauge. After that they have ran flawless until the springs weaken. I am running them in an AKAI with PT Evo grip. I have had STI Gen1, SV mags in 9mm and MBX, STI Gen1, SV mags in 40. The only ones that ever game me problems after tuning them were the SV for 9mm (newer design).
  14. As others have said, shoot what you can to try them, and buy the one you like. I am not sure about your skill level, but for me It wont matter about a shorty, middy, or full length. Practice will make me a lot better before the length of the gun. Now on the other part I have shot several of the custom guns and to me the flattest shooting gun is the AKAI. I am running a full length metal grip gun V6 in 9mm from AKAI and thing runs like a dream. I like a heavier gun so I went full size.
  15. I really like the STI Gen2 mags..have tried them all and so far they run the best in my guns.
  16. I have ran STI gen 1&2, SV Mags and MBX some for different guns, see for the same gun. All required see tuning and tweaking from time to time. I think it's hit or miss and none of them will ever be 100% in every gun. I currently run the STI Gen2. I did replace the spring/follower/basepads made sure they worked and started shooting them.
  17. I have owned several akai guns, awesome quality. As for the sleeve like everything else does it help yes, can most tell prob not at first, akai also make a "pelican barrel" which is like the nemisis sight block. I have really been looking and asking the same question on if they make that much difference as I am in the market to build a new Limited blaster.
  18. Load your own is the way to go. There are a couple of people actually loading some major ammo that is not crazy priced like it used to be. But as others say tuning the ammo to your gun makes it run better and is half the fun. I loaded over 600 rounds with 5 different powders before deciding on a load for mine.
  19. My load for my Akai is 124jhp PD 7.2 grn of WAC at 1.165 make about a 171 PF and is keep the dot pretty stable. I found that 3n37 and AA7 worked well. I have not tried the above powder or 3n38. I was also told blue dot could work
  20. I would say the only advantage would be to get the gun off a table start regardless of which way you lay it. Then againdepening on which hand you are it's almost always going to lay on the same side.
  21. I have 2 9mm only had to have to ejector tunes as I run mixed head stamp brass. Other than that, no mag or ammo issues.
  22. I use WAC 7.2 grns on a 124jhp PD. I found mine is accurate and flat around a 171-172 pf..HS6 hasd a nice feel, but had a circular dot movement..WAC for me tracked straight up and down and never left the glass. So each gun is different, and as others say, I would shoot what you are confident in.
  23. I went from a DPP to a rts2. I like the round dot better, the size of the rts2 dot to me is better and eaiser to find. When you do get washout it, there is more of the dot left in my opinion. So now I have a DPP and mount up in classifieds..lol
  24. Two great builders, I have never shot and Cheely. I have shot a Atlas and they are really nice. I still prefer my Akai...don't think you can go wrong with either choice..as others have said in other places...if you like both have the guy closest to you build it, should probems arise they are close for repair purposes.
  25. I run WAC, as the feel was better to me, butt thats just personal preference. The load I was using for AA 7 was 9.6 grns 124 PD jhp at 1.165 made about 170 Pf out of Akai V6 9mm. Produced a lot of gas but did have be more careful loading due to case capacity.
