  1. I toyed with the idea of .40 Open before I started reloading and was told by the .40 Open shooters I asked that I would still not be happy with the performance of my factory ammo with a comp (just not enough gas volume with fast burning powders).
  2. I though about that, but for the cost of an $80 reamer, I can try a lot of different bullets. I also have a Witness Limited .40 on it's way which can load long; I want to compare the two. I figure it's just a matter of finding the right bullet profile to maximize the potential of the CZs.
  3. You have your pick?!? You can't be in the US, where are you located?
  4. That's a no go with the 200gr lead TC in the TS, I had to go down to 1.063" until I cleared the rifling; not much room for powder at that point, so I gave up and loaded some at 1.2" for my buddy's Witness. I did load some 155gr LRN but I still had to go to 1.1" to clear the rifling. Maybe FMJs are the only bullets for the TS. I've got some factory 180gr FMJs, maybe I'll pull some and play around.
  5. Its the bullet profile which is a problem, FMJ seem to load longest, I tried some LRN 158s today and the hit the rifling until I squished them down to 1.1". I've got some 124 CMJs loaded to 1.14" without any problems. The shoulder on a 124 JHP gave me some real trouble too.
  6. I've been down this road, so I'd like to offer some advice to save you some frustration: don't move to Open until you have a reloading press. Notice that the members who've posted above use the term "minor loads" not "factory loads" like you did in your question? That's because factory loads are not designed for compensated pistols and will give you mediocre results at best. Those members who shoot Minor loads in Open are using slow powders to maximize gas volume, that's not the case with the factory loads I've shot. I have seven compensators, some work well with heavy loads, some work well with light loads, but none work better than OK with factory ammo.
  7. I had the same thoughts when I read the formal ruling in Hogue wraparound grips: I love them, use them on everything including my Production gun. No one has ever said anything, probably never would, but I just can't use them now that I know they're illegal. It does seem a little silly I can double the cost of my CZ with custom work, but a $20 grip gives me an 'unfair advantage'...
  8. Got a new one today: First crono lesson: - a scoped air rifle will shoot a few inches low at ten feet: First shot over the new crono didn't quite make it 'over' the crono BUT as luck would have it, no damage was done, other than a nice hole and some plastic shrapnel. Worked like a charm!
  9. It's not a Czechmate, but here are some pictures of the airsoft thumb rest I adapted to my TS: Just the right amount of room between the rest and the Cheely mount:
  10. I ordered a case from Manny two months ago and he told me 4-6 weeks, three weeks later Crystal emailed me an invoice and said 3-4 weeks, three weeks ago Manny email to ask if I had received them yet, then today Manny tells me it's a no go and to try ordering from MG directly... I am Jack's unmet expectations.
  11. Pre B is back! 14mm OD barrel right? I've never been nuts about the short DC and the tapered slide, but I guess if you've got a monster grip like Stuart muzzle flip is no problem!!!
  12. I've never shot the Aussie barrel but I'd be willing to bet you can't tell the difference. If you really want a longer barrel you can drop in one from a TS which is .6" longer.
  13. There is no excuse to be made, CZ USA is just jacked up with their conversions; the CZ75 line has a 4.5" barrel and the TS has a 5.1" barrel. The lengths on CZ UB in mm are correct. The Aussie barrel is a quarter inch longer because they have a law which prohibits barrels shorter than 120mm.
  14. Will, these are the options I can think of: -cut a notch in the sight blade for the hammer -trim the top of the hammer -have an LPA cut machined into the slide Personally, I installed an LPA sight in a standard cut slide and couldn't stand how tall it was, so I ordered a few sizes of fixed sights form CZ and experimented until I found the right one to move my group to the center of the target. I used to really like adjustable sights, but ever since I learned to zero in fixed sights, that's all I use; fix it and forget it!
  15. I dunno... My body building brothers-in-law were pretty embarrassed when neither one of them could close the #2 and their sister's pencil pushing husband could close it seven times...
  16. My shooting buddy and I are going to load some 200 grain lead truncated cone bullets tonight and I'm looking for some advice. First off, I shoot a TS and he shoots a Witness Match so I know he can load longer, but I'm hoping his Match will cycle my loads fine and we won't have to change back and forth. The powders we have: -700X -WST -Unique -HS6 I'm thinking WST would be the best, but the load listed in the Hodgdon tables is only 146PF, so we would have to go well beyond to make Major. On the other hand, the load listed for HS6 is 180pf so we could load a little under, but wouldn't the slowest powder have the most recoil? Also, the OAL listed is 1.125, generally what is the effect on velocity with the same charge and a longer OAL? Should I go crazy trying to figure out how long I can fit in my mags/chamber? or just start with 1.125" and go? Thanks for the help.
  17. I'm a big fan of the Witness pistols, my only question is: what's the difference between a Witness Classic and a Classic 2??? Here's my understanding of the Witness line, if I have anything wrong someone please set me straight or fill in any gaps: The European American Armory Witness line replaced the TA-90s imported by Ecam (preceeded by the TZ75 '88 series imported by FIE or 'Firearms Import and Export')sometime in the late 90s, early 2000's (?) which were all CZ75 clones available in small frame (9mm/.40 S&W) and large frame (.38 Super/10mm/.45ACP). Then in 2005, Witnesses in all calibers were imported to the US in large frames, allowing for conversion to all calibers with the same frame size. Later (year?) the small frames came back as the 'Witness Classic'. That's what I know, anyone else want to chime in?

  19. You could weld up the cut in the slide and re cut it to match the one on the 75B slide, but before I messed with the slide, I would order and extra trigger bar, add a blob of weld on the front of it, then grind it to match the contour of the TS trigger bar. If you need any pictures or measurements on the TS trigger bar let me know. This mismatch is interesting to me since I use an SP01 slide on my TS with out any problems...
  20. Holy moly! I'm glad to hear there was no collateral damage. The range report looks great.
  21. CZC and CZUSA both stock them.
  22. No, the bullet has already left the barrel before the spring begins to compress.
