  1. By the way Dave, where are the pictures???
  2. The explanation of slide velocity I've read which makes sense to me is that cycle time remains unaffected by recoil spring weight: a light spring lets the slide travel back faster, but returns it to battery slower; a heavy spring slows the rearward travel, but drives it home faster. I lightened slide reduces the reciprocating weight, reducing the spring force required to slow it down and changing the character of the impulse created when the slide slams rearward. The best way I can describe it is if shooting the stock TS is like listening to "The Memory Remains" and with the lightened slide it's like "Breadfan". Dave, if you want less snap, I would suggest a heavier bullet, or adding some weight back onto the slide, the spring won't do it (I tried every spring from 20# to 10#). After the reduction I tried the Sprinco Recoil Reducer, but I felt little effect and that which I did feel I wasn't fond of. The spring selection method I prefer is the double tap: take aim and pull the trigger twice as fast as you can, don't reacquire the sights. If the second shot is consistently high you could use a heavier to bring you back on target faster, if you second shot is consistently low, the slide is slamming forward too hard and dipping the muzzle. Obviously the results will vary with your grip strength and your trigger control, but this worked for me.
  3. Dave, I know exactly what you mean! I cut 1.8 oz out of my slide and thought "what happened to my powder puff TS?!?" The recoil impulse is much snapier, although it probably doesn't help that so far I've only shot it with 185PF factory ammo. I added a slide racker which put about an ounce back on and tamed it quite a bit. I don't know if I've just gotten used to it, or the grip training I've been going, but I feel compelled to take it off again.
  4. Sanders, if it's .550" that's a small frame, do the mags interchange with a CZ? Send me a PM with some pictures and the details of what you want, I think I can help.
  5. So EAA sent me a 6" .40 barrel instead of the 6" 9mm barrel I ordered and I thought of this thread... I've got one of these sitting in my parts bin: and I also have a .40 Match slide and a Hunter frame. It is really tempting to weld up the port, drill it all the way through, tap it, thread the barrel, cut in a sight on the comp and VOILA! 6" Witness sight tracker Limited gun! This is essentially what they did with the old style Hunter, except it was built on a shorter frame:
  6. Not without a new crown. The large frame Witness barrels have an OD of 15mm, the small frame Witnesses have an OD of 14mm like the CZ, but the CZ has a little nub above the breech and a slightly different peanut shape on the bottom lug:
  7. There was a time when I was obsessed with being set up in each division, but I got over that. I've never shot a 1911 I liked nearly as much as my CZ Tactical Sport, so I figure why bother? I'm a CZ guy. I have CZs to shoot in Open, Limited, L10 and Production; that should keep my busy for a while...
  8. Do you have a large frame or a small frame? Only small frame mags interchange with CZ.
  9. Wow! Open and Revolver!?! You must get whiplash!

    "Shadow Line"

Hmm, I have yet to shoot my new Shadow, but I'm concerned about the same thing. I have pretty big hands and I use Hogue grips on my TS, the Shadow feels tiny! I'm thinking of swapping in a 97B trigger, or even the stock trigger from my Witness Hunter.
  11. Do you shoot two divisions in one match? Or just change divisions between matches?
  12. I ordered a 6" 9mm barrel last week, the girl on the phone said it was in stock and shipped the next day, it showed up today, but it was a 6" .40 barrel... bummer.
  13. The range where I shoot has a rental rack and holds two informal steel matches where you can start at low ready if you don't have a holster. If you can find something like that I suggest you and your dad go check it out and make some friends. Chances are good someone will let you borrow a spare rig for the next match.
  14. So I placed an order over the phone last week with EAA: 3 .45 mags, a large frame 9mm conversion kit (standard length) and a 6" large frame 9mm barrel. I call to corfirm the following day, she tells me the LF 9mm conversion is on back order, but the mags and barrel will ship today, great! The box shows up today with 3 .45 mags and a 6" .40 barrel... The invoice shows the mags, and a 9mm barrel shipped with a .22 conversion on back order. Grrr. Now that I've got that off my chest, has anyone shot a .40 barrel in a .45 slide? I've done a 9mm barrel in a .40 slide, but this is a little more slop.

    "Shadow Line"

That's very cool, I just picked up my SP01 Shadow with SRT yesterday. I can't wait to shoot it.
  16. I love all the posters who keep addressing your original post The second I saw this thread I knew what your answer would be! There are two kinds of shooters in this sport: those draw to Open and those turned off by it; if you're the former and you can afford it, you do it!!!
  17. Ask and ye shall receive! https://www.ccgunworks.com/store/shop/cz-checkmate-horizontal-c-more-mount/ I added a thumb rest to mine:
  18. What pistol are you shooting? My buddy has a lefty Bladetech for a Witness Match (no rail).
  19. In other news, I received a case of 135 grain bullets directly from Berry's one week after I ordered from their website.
  20. http://www.gramseng.com/ He doesn't have CZ products listed on the website right now, but give him a call or send and email; maybe he can help you out.
  21. ^^^ That's wisdom talking right there ^^^ I love buying and selling guns! A used gun is a used gun so if you market it better than the guy you bought it from, you should at least get your money back.
  22. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the majority of posters in this thread are not business owners, so maybe I can pull back the curtain a little bit and evoke some empathy. Rising prices do not necessarily correlate with rising profits, nor do rising material costs; these are factors, but if it was that simple, everyone would run their own business and the failure rate of start ups would be much lower. I run a construction company which is not exactly the same as a manufacturing business, but there are some similarities including the concept of production capacity. I find we enjoy the largest profit margins when we're operating at 105%-110% of our capacity, but not when we're doing the largest volume of sales. Furthermore, the profit margin goes down dramatically in the process of increasing capacity, including training new employees, and investing in new equipment. Regardless, MG is not in the driver's seat, you are. The consumer runs the market and MG, like all businesses, are just trying to react and survive. Price is the one factor they have complete control of which can effect demand; I don't blame them for raising prices, they're just trying to keep from drowning in a sea of orders. Are they risking losing customers? of course, but that's par for the course when you run a business, everything is risk. It never ceases to amaze me how emotional some consumers get over their consumption; it's just stuff.
  23. Yea, I placed an order on Monday for a standard 9mm conversion, 6" barrel and some .45 mags and I have no idea what's going on; she seemed in a big hurry to get me off the phone.
  24. A couple new pictures with my latest slide racker:
