  1. Mike, if you're not going to shoot USPSA Limited, I would say stick with the mighty 10, but if you want to give competition a go, I would call EAA and buy the .40 barrel, especially if you don't want to reload.
  2. In their defense: they ask for the serial number so they can identify exactly what pistol you have in front of you and make sure the parts you're ordering will fit. I'm sure they've had plenty of upset customers return parts which didn't end up working, but unfortunately I think I, as well as some of the others here on this forum know more about Tanfo cross compatibility than the ladies at EAA. That being said, there is no excuse for the rush. I feel the same way when I call, it's like I'm really hassling them when I want to buy something; they can't get me off the phone fast enough.
  3. It's just as much trouble to get adjustable sights where you want them, which is why I switched to fixed. Set it and forget it!
  4. Haggling can even be a fun experience with someone who knows how to dance, but guys like this just have two left feet and it's like pulling teeth.
  5. Yes, they always ask for a SN; some of them can be convinced you know what you want, but others can't. And yes, get the long slide conversion, the only difference with the Match conversion is that it says Match on it (and may come with a worse rear sight). The slide to frame fit has more to do with which side of the bell curve your particular frame and conversion sit. My cheap Witness steel locked up tighter than my friends Match with the conversion kit.
  6. Why not drill out your CZ sight to accept the Dawson rod?
  7. Brand spankin' new! http://tanfoglioforum.com/index.php
  8. OK, so they cut, extended and welded an SP01 slide?
  9. Small frame??? Looks an awful lot like a 97 to me. Here's mine with a Tanfo 10mm conversion:
  10. I started reloading, so I have my factory ammo stash for sale on a local forum and I was reminded my least favorite buyers are still out there: "what's your lowest price?" Dude, I did my part, I offered my stuff for sale at X. If you want to buy it for X great, if not, make me an offer. I can't tell you what's the lowest offer I might accept until I see it! You want me to haggle with myself for you?!? It's just plain laziness.
  11. God didn't invent adjustable sights, Angus did! I used to a fan of adjustable until I tried the TS, now I want to put that fixed rear on everything.
  12. I haven't mustered the courage to try any sight cuts yet!

    "Shadow Line"

I agree, don't change the way you shoot, change the sights. If you post a picture of your gun with some measurements of the sights, I might be able to help; I have some spare sights.
  14. So Chris, it sounds like the 97B and the Original 85 Combat triggers are the same with an over travel screw in the 85, right? I also remember my 97B trigger being a hair narrower, can you confirm this?
  15. The three springs I installed were from CGW, as I understand CZC doesn't sell springs that light.
  16. There was nothing 'wrong' with the springs when I got the gun, the trigger pull was just a little heavy for my taste: about 8 1/2# DA and 3 1/2# SA. My first pistol, at 12, was an Olympic Rapid Fire pistol with a 47g trigger (that's 1.7oz), so naturally when I bought my first center fire pistol at 24 (CZ P01) I was very interested in pushing the envelope. I started shooting USPSA last year and bought a Tactical Sport which now breaks between 1#2oz and 1#10oz depending on the hammer spring. CZC wants to set their guns up to run reliably with any type of ammo the customer feeds it, not to push the limits of failure.
  17. I took my new custom Shadow to the range today and thoroughly enjoyed it! The SRT is just what the doctor ordered. I couldn't help myself from changing a few springs before I shot it though : I put in the CGW trigger return spring and reduced power firing pin spring, plus an 11.5# hammer spring. That dropped two pounds from the DA and a little more than a pound from the SA pull. I was really surprised that the springs I took out had some coils cut off, I didn't think that was a reliable way to tune springs? I was a little worried about light strikes, but I shot some reloads with Wincester SPPs and some BVAC remanufactured ammo with unknown primers and didn't have a single one. With the SRT, the trigger seemed a little close to me, although I have pretty big hands; does anyone know if the CZ 85 Combat Original has less or more reach than the 97B trigger? My big question for the CZ shooters out there is: where to you rack the slide??? I did some unloaded table starts and I was grabbing the front serrations, but it seemed really slow. I'm really thinking about machining an LPA cut and using the TS sights because racking the rear sight is so much faster.
  18. Ah Cha-lee, most of us have more money than brains, don't we? Not withstanding, I said it was tempting but I've decided against it; I have too many irons in too many fires right now. Besides, I've never shot a sight tracker, so I don't have a real burning desire for one at the moment. However, I will be taking delivery of my .45 Hunter next month and I am excited to try out a real 6" gun. What I really would have liked to do was get a 10mm and put a .40 slide in it, but I could only find a .45, so L10 will have to be good enough for now (unless someone wants to trade me the upper from their Bullseye ). The Hunter actually has the same length recoil system as the Limited (with a block to take up the extra 1 1/4"), so my first project will be to make a long guide rod and try a longer spring. I know what you're thinking: I should tinker less and shoot more, but my wife is pregnant with our third right now, so my live fire opportunities are few and far between. After everyone is in bed... that's my mad scientist time!
  19. If you wanted to do a cone comp and reuse the barrel you have, here's what I would do: -buy a conefit Thundercomp 2 (http://www.1911store...undercomp2.aspx) -turn the end of your current barrel down to .575" (it's 15mm right now, or .591") -thread it .575X40 to match the comp -open up the front of the slide like a Limited to accommodate the cone fit barrel and pull it out the front (need to use Henning's guide rod bushing: http://henningshoots...upperparts.html) Although I don't think I would put that kind of dough into a $300 plastic gun, but that's just me; I don't have any way of knowing how well the poly frame would hold up to major loads (assuming that's what you want to shoot), not to mention the light weight scalloped slide on the polys. Are you going to do this work yourself?
  20. That's a large frame. There's a spacer in the front of the 9mm/40 mags.
  21. I used to think the long hammer spring down the back of the grip was a dead giveaway (small frame), until I bought a small frame Mossad with a short, transverse hammer spring. I really have no idea about the poly guns since I've never seen one in person. The large frame mags measure 1.345" x 0.850" and the small frame mags measure 1.250" x 0.800" (although that doesn't do you much good without the calipers either). You don't have a CZ75 lying around do you? Small frame mags will fit in the CZ, large frame won't. If you took a picture of the gun and the mag then posted it here, I'll bet one of us could pick it out. So is the object of this project to make your poly into an Open gun (with optics)? or just a compensated range toy? How much are you planning to spend on it? I only ask because I have well over a thousand dollars into turning this: into this: and I'm still not completely satisfied with the comp. But something like this can be done relatively cheeply:
  22. Nate, if you have a large frame gun a cone comp is doable, but if you have a small frame nothing off the shelf will work, it will have to be custom. Please believe me, this is a long, expensive road to go down (ask me how I know...). Do you reload? If not you should know most comp designs are less than impressive with factory ammo.
  23. Keep in mind any SS/Prod/Rev rig you own is legal in Open, Lim, and Lim10. A revolver can also go to production. No need for 6 rigs. We don't really need most of the stuff we buy for this sport, but I'm not really interested in shooting Open Minor with my CZ75 and 10 round mags just to get another classification on my card. If I'm going to shoot Open, I want to shoot a competitive Open gun. What's wrong with talking to the other guys in your club and saying "hey, I've got really nice Limited setup, you've got a really nice Open setup, would you care to swap for a few matches?"
  24. Before I got crazy about buying six competition rigs, I realized I could swap rigs with another shooter for a match or a season. Much cheaper...
