  1. Little too Euro for my tastes. Is having to wear a banana hammock mandatory with those? J/k!
  2. I know one of one shooter that has both SVI and STI. According to him, the biggest difference between the two (besides cost), is that the SVI frame is on its third or forth rebuild (using STI parts) but the STI frame has developed a fatal crack at the end of its third rebuild. He uses STI parts for his SVI rebuilds because in his words, there's no difference in performance, just cost. Seeing as he's a GM, I'll take his word. Edit: He gets about 60k rounds between rebuilds. YMMV
  3. Got a sweet deal on 2 pairs of Woolrich pants. Very comfortable and lots of pockets. But I normally only wear them for multi-gun matches or during winter months. Everyday wear are cheap cargo style shorts I picked up at Academy. Again, extra pockets are a must.
  4. As far as sanctioned matched, my experience mirrors what BillR1 stated. SOs stay at the stages so that they get the most consistent calls. Also, during the walk through, the SOs make it very clear as to what they will be looking for with cover calls. That goes for every shot position. There aren't any surprises. As at as there being fault lines in IDPA, I don't see how you can. When engaging targets in barricade order, your position can shift from the 1st target to the last. Fault lines are a guide for your feet, that doesn't stop you from extending your upper body in a way that would expose you to a threat. Just my opinion.
  5. From what I've witnessed with sanctioned matches here in N. Texas, all staff are comp'd their match fee. I've been pressured to sign up to become an SO at my club. I keep brushing it off and politely explaining that I don't want to deal with the responsibility. I know that I wouldn't enjoy myself as much if I was required to run people. I do help score keep from time to time but not very often.
  6. I've seen a number of patches and logos vary from S&W to hello kitty to "don't tread on me" all at major matches. Half the time you don't even pay much attention to what people have on there when their vests look like they work at TGIF. Just keep it classy.
  7. Let me start by saying I am not a USPSA member, but I really enjoy the POV videos that many of you post on youtube. I've spent 4-5 hours of my life reading this thread. I think what you guys are trying to accomplish is awesome. I can see both sides of this argument but am currently siding with the "build it and they will come". I read a few posts mention IDPA. I am currently an IDPA member. Using optics (of any sort) is actually legal under the new NFC (not for competition) division IDPA implemented this year. It allowed you to run what you brung. But this is only permitted at tier 1 level. I was initially excited to hear about this new division last year when it was hearsay. Unfortunately I've yet to see any optics at any of our club matches since its inception. The only benefit I've seen from it was allowing juniors to use .22s to experience the joys of an action pistol game. And that was also the intent of the division. Allow people to bring whatever it was they had at home that didn't fit into one of the 3 other divisions and safely enjoy the sport. I'm unsure of the membership numbers in comparison, but I'm guessing USPSA is a much larger and more active organization. With that in mind I'm hoping that there will be more of you to get the word out and make this a success. But just a small dose of reality... If IDPA is any indicator, there really aren't that many people waiting to use a slide ride optic in competition. Again, I hope that I'm severely mistaken and that you guys can make this a reality! Best of luck!
  8. I would imagine anytime you remove material you would weaken the grip.
  9. Yes they are stock with the Marauder. Again Shooters Connection has 84 of the 9mm mags in stock. http://www.shootersconnectionstore.com/STI-Magazine-140mm-Standard-Capacity-Black-Nitride-P3406.aspx Correct, but I was looking at the 126mm mags. Seems they only have them in .40 & .45.
  10. I'm guessing since the release of the marauder, these have been available? Can't find any in 9mm though. Ironic...
  11. Looks to be legal for both.
  12. 2011 have the advantage of a wider magwell while still providing that 1911 familiarity. It does feel different in the hands than a standard 1911, but I prefer it. I've run stock 126mm mags without issue. Some people have reported issues with mags but generally those have been tampered with. They are also more costly than a polymer style mag. Most of what may be a pro or con may be subjective. Cost, balance, controls, weight, finish. Does having a 2011 make me a better shooter? That's debatable at my skill level. IDPA is a game and the excuse I used to justify purchasing a 2011. If I'm going to play a game, I'm going to use equipment that suits my tastes whether it provides and real competitive advantage or not. A word of caution: I've posted this warning numerous times. Once you start shooting 2011s, you will lose some enjoyment of shooting any other pistol you own. Enjoy.
  13. +1 for the micro dot. I'm able to get a much more precise shot at distance with the micro dot.
  14. I have to disagree. I feel this has nothing to do with rules. This was an example if a petty MD at a local level shooting match.
  15. That has nothing to do with IDPA and everything to do with a butthead of a MD. The SO in charge of your squad should have also communicated better with the MD.
  16. I have noticed roughly 1/2 of the matches that my club host that are indoor start like this. I hadn't given much thought as to why our MDs were doing this. They may have had the same train of thought.
  17. So the factory Magwell on my Tactical 4.0 is IDPA legal? Unless it looks like this.... The answer is no.
  18. I happen to be one of those guys with acidic skin oils. I rust stainless mags and blued pistols with ease. I spend last summer hand feeding my 550 dillon 9mm primers. Some of those rounds were not shot until winter. Not one of those failed to ignite. Not sure how this reloading folk lore began, but I assume it had to do with a farmer having just rebuilt his tractor engine and decided to reload without washing his hands.
  19. If cost isn't a concern then jacketed is the way to go. But if cost is a factor, then save some coin (and barrel life) and go with coated lead. The coated pills will also save you a smidge of powder as they require less powder to make the same PF. I tried PD's 124gr HP in 9mm and they were friggin sweet. Some of the most accurate rounds I ever loaded. YMMV.
  20. Locally we put division and class aside and look at the overall. Regardless of division, we find that our MA's finish on top followed by the EX's. This also reflects in our overall scores at major matches. It helps me to gauge my skill development knowing that most of our members are shooting at their level.
  21. Your local club members will start calling you sandbagger until you get a classifier under your belt.
  22. I have no experience with the CZ clones so I can't comment on them.
  23. 9mm in 1911 is almost cheating. The only thing one may give up to a polymer is that they (polymers) have a more forgiving mag chute being a double stack. Nothing that can't be overcome with some quality practice.
