Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. Interesting. I have been searching for similar situations as far as damage goes and all I've found are case failures or barrel obstructions causing it. I'm starting to think I should hand it over to a licensed gunsmith.
  2. This weekend my bolt carrier failed. I've never heard of or seen this failure mode. I'm wondering if I should send it to Young's Manufacturing for analysis. Ammo was factory American Eagle 55gr. You can see in the picture that the rear gas ring is bent 90 degrees. I'm wondering if this was wedged between the carrier and bolt body causing stress on the carrier. I haven't been able to get the upper apart yet. The front of the carrier spread enough to bulge the upper and lock it all up. Next step is to remove hand guard and barrel or just cut the upper. Best I can tell, the bolt seems to be intact and the case is still in the chamber. Until I get it pulled apart and can see in the barrel, a squib is still a possibility. However, the previous shot sounded and cycled normally. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. My 18" bbl is the most accurate with 69gr SMK, if memory serves, over 22.5 - 24gr Varget depending on the primer. However, I have to go slow loading with Varget due to it bridging often. So, being lazy, I've found that the same charge of WC844 (H335 equivalent) that I use behind Hornady 55gr for my go to match load works well for the 69 SMK to make the longer flashers move more. I load the 55's to the cannelure on cases trimmed to 1.75". The SMK I load to OAL of 2.24. This may not work well for your rifle but you already know that since you aren't new to reloading.
  4. Didn't know there were movies...HBO productions too?
  5. I had a long talk typed out about the revelations in the finale then realized that spoilers may not be too welcome. Anyway, never saw the two biggest coming. I'm with you, definitely on the list to re-watch. I'll be eager to see how/if Season 2 makes use of the samarai warriors. Are there other Worlds?
  6. I am not affiliated with them in any way but would like to relay my experience with the customer service. I bought two boxes of 180gr .40 at the Gator Classic and when I went to load some the next week I found that I had made it home with two boxes of 155gr 9mm. I emailed him and offered to send those back if he'd ship me the 180's or he could bill me for the 155s and ship me the 180s I had already paid for. He called me back the next day and said he would be shipping me the two boxes of 180s free of charge and I could keep the 155s. It was as much my fault as his that I walked away with the wrong boxes. He stepped up and that earned him a loyal customer. (if they work well in my guns)
  7. If you do not have a brass processing setup with a Dillon or other powered trimmer RCBS x dies are nice. They have a shelf inside the die that prevents the cases from lengthening when sized. You can trim brass to 1.75 or less once, if it is longer and not have to worry about it again. However, if you pick up range brass from other shooters you still have to check for long cases. Thought it worth mentioning.
  8. I was going to explain how the white bushing needs to slide out of the bottom of the metal bracket and not horizontally through the slot intended for the FS rod only. mikeinctown beat me to it. I struggled with the same thing when I first got my press and ended up screwing the wing-nut off about a dozen times before it clicked that I should just pull it down.
  9. Kevin G.

    Which one?

    Snowboard CO or PNW?
  10. Springfield now makes a 4" version of the EMP. I've considered getting one of those for my 9 yr old daughter to try. http://www.springfield-armory.com/products/1911-emp-4-lightweight-champion-9mm/
  11. Having been involved with administering a (admittedly failed) forum in the past I wonder if there are skin templates available to change the look and feel of the new version. Maybe a "classic theme" if this is just a newer version of the same platform. That comment was for all the haters to chew on. I agree with GrumpyOne. At first I was unhappy. Then I started poking around and found that it wasn't so bad and had improved in many ways.
  12. OK, so I went to the Glock sight to check out tis G40 since I hadn't heard of it and see this pic... Can anyone explain what's going on with that pistol? Slide looks to be in full battery...Do they offer an extended barrel short slide gun?
  13. MBX followers will not work in other tubes (SV, STI, Rescomp. etc.) MBX tubes do not get as narrow a the top below the feed lips and they make the follower wider than others. However, TTI followers do work in MBX tubes for some people. They seemed too loose at the top for me.
  14. He was saying that an FFL is required for out of state purchases and that it may happen to be an 03. I'm assuming you had to send a copy of your 03/FFL in order for them to ship that handgun to your grubby mitts. That's still an FFL being required in the transaction.
