For my FIVE inch Edge, I'm running a Dawson .090" fiber optic (Dawson is pretty much the standard FO sight for USPSA) which gives good light bars on either side of the sight and is fast for acquisition...however since your looking at a 6" slide, I'd probably go with the .100" Dawson FO sight as I think the .090" sight would probably be a bit too thin.

Ok...I'll throw my response into the mix. I'd start with the G19. The G19 will ALWAYS be a great carry gun but the G17 and G34 are going to be a compromise in terms of carry. Once you start shooting USPSA with the G19, you may decide that you want to focus in a division other than production such as Limited/Open in which case, you're probably going to want something a bit more specialized than a Glock. If you started with a G34 or G17 and discover this...now you've got a gun you don't need anymore. You'll always be happy with the G19 because it does everything.....well.

Except for one point....here in the US, we don't use the IPSC rulebook, we use the USPSA rulebook. The COF ends (in the USPSA version) when the Range Is Clear command is given...not when the competitors hands are clear of the holstered gun. It used to be that way but not anymore.

There is an airport in Grand Rapids, MI. I would not recommend any air port in or near Chicago. Detroit Metro is anout a 2.5 hour drive from the range. Where the GR. is anout 45 min to 1 hour depending on traffic. It will be about 3o min from the Match hotel. I hope someone can answer this question for me. I thought I heard it on a Matt Burkett podcast....I believe Matt was saying that because of the laws in Chicago, you could be arrested for leaving/returning-to the airport with a handgun. Is there any truth to this? If you fly into Chicago and then want to rent a car and drive somewhere....what do you do?

I've suffered off and on over the last few years with migraines ( I get 3 - 4 a year). I was shooting an out of state match a couple years ago...woke up at 3AM...felt fine...woke up at 5AM and felt really sick (normally I get the aura about 30 minutes before the migraine hits...but I was asleep so I didn't get "early warning"). I shot like crap during the match...but one of my shooting buddies told me that his daughter suffers from them and they recommended Imitrex. I went and saw my doctor and got a perscription for it. Now when I get the aura....I immediately take one and it pretty much kills it down to just a normal light headache.

Just wanted to send my congradulations out to Travis!!! He wins the USPSA Limited Nationals and now has won the World Championship in Standard Division. When I started shooting IPSC, I had only shot a couple of matches with Travis (back in the early 90's) but he has got to be the nicest guy you'll ever meet shooting in this game. I know Squire has to be one proud papa!

The Dillon crimp die works fine for moly bullets like Masterblaster so I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work just as well with cast bullets. The Dillon sizer die also works well with guppied Glock brass if you modify the die slightly (belt sander...do a search and you'll find the details).

Standing erect, toes of both feet against either toe line, facing 90 degrees away from downrange.... So it doesn't say you have to be facing out...it just says facing 90 degrees aways from downrange. Anyone try starting outside and stepping INTO the ports....rather than facing outward and turn/drawing?

So it appears that your RO certification has to expire before you can do the online recert thing? Mine also expires at the end of this month....and I don't see a link when I do a Member Lookup with my USPSA number....however entering the number of someone who's RO certification expired in May...results in the signing box.

As a match organizer that is not possible because most sponsors would rather give product to the match instead of cash. ... Sure you can....give it to the Staff (CRO/RO/etc). That way the sponsors products still gets distributed (perhaps to the people who most deserve it for putting in their time) and award plaques/trophies to the competitors. I've seen this done at Area matches...and no one (especially the RO's) seemed to complain. I'm all for getting rid of prize tables entirely and dropping match fees.....I agree with KurtM too...its all about the shooting...not what you can put on your wall (or in your safe).

I got a better idea....lets just get rid of prizes all together and go plaques/trophies only! Are we involved in this game because of the prizes we can win...or because of the challenge and experiences it offers? Think about it!

As others have said...getting help these days can be tough...but I would think that a good MD/RM would try and pair up an experienced CRO with an inexperienced RO on each stage...if they've got a bunch of inexperienced RO who have volunteered. That way the inexperienced RO can learn while still helping out...and eventually they'll be the experienced one. in general????

I was thinking about doing the Nationals in 2009 (I wasn't able to make it this year due to financial constraints) however after seeing the pictures of the range this year....and the pictures of the range from the 2007 Nationals (another mud bowl)...I'm having serious reservations about attending the Nationals next year and taking the chance of blowing a bunch of money at the risk of yet another mud bowl. I realize that you can't do much about the weather...but scheduling the Nationals at a location that is in direct line of hurricanes during hurricane season....is well...stupid!

I've experimented with Clays for major in 40S&W.....I also traditionally run TiteGroup for my 40 loads (shooting from a STI Edge). My bullet is a 180gr MasterBlaster and rounds are loaded to 1.180" OAL. What I noticed with the Clays was that the recoil felt softer but it felt more like a shove than a snap (as compared to TG which is faster)....I found that I prefered the "snappiness" of TG. As others have mentioned, Clays can be a bit tricky and will pressure spike on you if you're not careful. In the process of creating a load, I started at 3.7gr and increased the charge in .05gr increments all the way to 4.0gr (which started to show pressure signs...some of the primers were beginning to look a little flattened...nothing bad but definately different than lighter charges of Clays). I finally settled on 3.95gr of Clays as a "major" load for 180gr MB bullets. The recoil is so soft you'll swear you're not making major...but it does. Below is the chrono data for 3.95gr. I listed the bullet weight as 178.5 because MB's tend to run a little light. 3.95gr Clays MB 178.5 1.18" High: 954.0 Low: 926.8 E.S.: 27.2 Ave.: 939.0 S.D.: 9.4 The 3.95gr loads seemed pretty safe...no signs of pressure problems....but IF you happened to suffer bullet setback....this load could/would probably detonate. So proceed with caution.
