The comp is affixed with an allen screw.

Exactly what you stated. With a Federal primer, it may look completely flattened on a normal load, while with a Winchester or CCI, it may not. You don't want primer blow through, as that tiny piece of metal can get stuck in the firing pin channel, and then you have a dead gun in the middle of a stage.

And, you may want to use small rifle primers instead of small pistol primers.

While I don't have a ton of experience with STI mags, the (2) 170's, (1) 140, and (2) 126's I own have all worked flawless right out of the package (for 38 super).

Check the extractor groove in the two cases that failed. I had a similar issue years back with some 38Super cases. They plunked fined, OAL was good, everything looked good, but they would not feed...couldn't force them in. The extractor groove on the case was the culprit. It wasn't cut quite as deep on that brass as it was on all the other brass. Next thing to check is to see if there is gunk in the extractor tunnel. That may have kept the round from sliding up the breach face completely.
