  1. How's that? You're free to not-shoot if you don't like the terms. You can cross out all you want, but it likely won't mean squat legally unless the other party explicitly in writing agrees to your changes. Signing somebody else's name to a check does not give you the right to free stuff.
  2. I doubt IPSC secretly caved to political pressure.. they are pretty public about the political pressures that cause the Metric target to be used exclusively at World Shoots. I think they'd had it with trying to figure out what the definition of "LEO" was.. especially internationally. I'd be willing to bet that somebody abused the system somewhere. But.. I see nothing different between a High-LEO award and say, a single-stack 1911 division. The point is to get more people in one group or other shooting, right? If the cost-to-me of an award I have no chance of winning is three minutes of my time at a major match. I can live with that. Somebody should find a dozen "overweight slow white guys that want their own trophy" and ask a MD if you can have one. They might even go for it.
  3. You can do that with STI -style frames too-- Tune the bottom of the thumb pad so it bottoms out on the frame when the safety releases. You will still snap them off (just the torque from overcoming the safety plunger will do it eventually), but less often.
  4. 9x19? 9x21? 9x23? 38 Super? The title didn't say that.
  5. The TX GM's are spread across a big chunk of the state, with small clumps here and there. IIRC the AZ shooters are more concentrated. For pure shooting I'd go there.
  6. Lefties breaking 1911 ambi safeties seem to just be a fact of life. First real gunsmithing task I learned was fitting new ambis. Usually they break on the tab-n-slot mechanism. I haven't tried the Kings or new SV version to see if they're any better. The good thing is the part that usually breaks is the right side (where a lefty's thumb normally goes). Then you can get another ambi of the same make and just replace the right-side lever without needing to refit the safety lug.
  7. Generic red/white/blue ribbons are about $1/each in small quantities Fancier and/or customized button or print with the match and club costs a bit more, especially in small quantities. You also might want to look into medals. They cost a bit more, but less than plaques.
  8. "Cannibal Women in the Avacado Jungle of Death" It's a hilariously bad take on Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" (think Apocalyse Now). People not familliar with either will just think it's stupid. http://www.ohthehumanity.com/review.php3?ID=75
  9. Just don't sell the thing for a profit. Make your own.... Yeah.. my somewhat obtuse point there was obviously a lot of people have wanted one and designed one. The lack of available units for sale tells me they're harder to make work than to design and patent (working models no longer being required for patents, there's a lot of pretty paper that doesn't really work at the PTO)
  10. People have tumbled loaded ammo for weeks and in converted cement mixers with no detonations reported. There's a thread on that around here somewhere. The biggest problem with tumbling ammo IMHO is getting media stuck in the hollowpoints.
  11. Hmm.. usually the PS will shut itself down for a while if it detects a flat short. Given as how it seems to be working, the board may be hosed. But, unplug it from the PS pop the batteries and let it sit for a bit and plug everything back in to see if maybe you popped a resetting fuse on it. Did your system used to beep? Lots of BIOS don't beep on boot anymore. If you have a PS/2 keyboard, the lights should flash early in BIOS POST-- if the NumLock key does anything, that's a sign that things are working too. If you need to swap the MB, swapping in an identical one should work fine.. XP does try and authenticate that you haven't changed too much, but if it whines, you can call MS and they'll let you in.
  12. Hard shots, easy shots, the top guys still have to make them faster and better than everybody else if they want to win. However, most of the shooters (especially the newer shooters) aren't there to win the match. They're there to shoot the stages and have a good time. Lots of Misses and No-shoots is not a good time, regardless of what everybody else is hitting. This is the key. IPSC matches don't have shots so physically difficult that only a GM can possibly make them (or M or A or B shooters for that matter). Good stages balance the needs of both groups-- targets everybody could hit, but difficult enough when combined into the stage requirements that everybody will have fun trying to hit them. I also note that one person's "fun" is another person's "boring", and maybe even another person's "frustrating". Thus we need a mix of everything. Not "lowest common denominator" or "highest denominator", but somewhere in-between
  13. I e-mailed Safariland support one day last week and not only did they send me four new pieces to replace two broken ones free, but the guy even knew enough to ask if I was left-handed or not.
  14. I can tell you I'm pretty sure there's nothing decent in the sub-$1000 range... I've toyed with designs for one for a while, but the mechanicals are tricky. There sure are a lot of patents on auto-brass-sorters though.
  15. Dillon! They gave me a pair at Area 2.. well, they gave a pair to Area 2 and I got them off the prize table. That kind of support rocks. Replacement ear pads (2-3 years later) are kinda pricy though.
  16. You also have to shake the FA until all the primers are face-up... it's a good deal, but not full-auto either. A tuned RF-100 is truly fire-and-forget. Dump a box of primers into it any which way up, push the go button and start cranking rounds on your press. 40 rounds later you have a new tube full of primers ready to go. Parallel processing at it's best. I don't even know where my extra primer tubes are anymore... But, it can be tricky to get going right. I wouldn't suggest it for anybody that's not willing to dink with it a bit. I give it a "must-have" for 1050's, and a "nice to have" for 650s and below.
  17. It's not a .40 barreled UZI is it? Sounds like it could be a short chamber.
  18. I like the CV500 much more than the Frankford/Midway one. Still not perfect, but getting there.
  19. Btw, intentionally bypassing or mis-signing a waiver in order to get access to what signing the waiver allows you to is tantamount to agreeing to it anyway. So said our lawyers when I wrote a "press the Z-key to accept your license agreement"-type program (you might recognize it, it's on tens of millions of PCs). I said it could be bypassed by a clever person. They said "it doesn't matter.. intentionally circumventing it is the same as agreeing".
  20. Do super-slo-mo draws (like a 30-seconds minimum). You'll soon see things that have you going "Why do I do that?". Brian's book also has a great dry-draw exercise with a doorway and a piece of string.
  21. 4th Saturday is a steel match SW of Austin, or an IDPA Carbine & lowlight shoot even souther and wester of Austin. Both 1-1.5 hrs away, depending where you are in SA.
  22. Yeah, but some people just think Open guns are cool. No point hiding them, or the newbies will just feel sandbagged when they show up at a match, but you don't want to push them either.

  24. Long measuring tape for setting up classifiers. Line marking paint. Steel cable or chain for activators. Quicklinks to join them Reel of yellow Nylon rope for fencing stuff off-- don't use for activators since it stretches too much Friendly gamer to review stages and look for holes. Pen to mark up stage diagrams based on gamer input.

    Aimpoint Mount?

I've got both CPMI and Wegand Aimpoint mounts and far prefer the CPMI.. Yeah the scope is further back, but the scope is round where it needs to be and thus not a problem. I stick a swatch of aluminum tape on the bottom of the scope just in case and only have to replace it every year or two.
