  1. Have you tried Alan Tillman at ART enterprises? He's local and does great work, but can get busy.
  2. Consider putting steel hardcover up instead (and far enough away to save on splatter and funky edge-hits). HC will encourage hosing.. which will cause more crowd-pleasing 'ding's, which will cause more panicked hosing... NS just don't have the same effect.. everybody tries to stay well away from those. Rhino- Steel NS more than 30cm x 30cm are a no-no.. see Flex's spinning-hypno-thread
  3. Kind of a haul, but Waco's IPSC match is this Saturday. 3rd Saturday of each month. They usually have good stages and a good crop of shooters. http://www.ctrpc.com
  4. If the unit 1 is the one with interchangable tops (one weaver rail for scopes and the other with iron sights), then you can remove the top rail (either one) and it will work (you actually have to if your scope is mounted very low). If you have something with the sights built into the slide, you'll have to remove them somehow if they don't clear the mount. I hacked up a Ceiner kit to work on an STI once, and only had to remove the rear sight-- the front one was far enough forward to clear the frame-mounted scope mount.
  5. Mineral Wells has a 600 yard range. I think Breckenridge might go to 1000. But otherwise I think the DFW area is relatively poorly supplied with ranges.
  6. Flex already said target-shaped no-shoots are a no-no. Other sizes (up to 30x30 cm squares) are OK. But, clamshell / bear-trap targets often have this problem. Typically it's handled by looking for the grease-ring around the holes, but that's not officially allowed for determining shoot-thrus
  7. This sounds kinda scary. Maybe I just can't visualize the layout. As a "C" shooter, I've got an "A" shooter firing behind me? -Chet It's a one-box speed shoot. Everybody shot separately.. the top D's would shoot, one at a time, score recorded for each, then the D box was removed and the top C's shot from the box further back and so on.
  8. Couldn't you just use one Revo for everything?
  9. I used to bend RCBS pins and stems all the time. They'd wonder what I was up to but always send me new ones free. Mostly that was from cases flipping sideways in the 1050 and not getting caught (38 TJ brass going through .38 Super casefeed parts is the usual suspect).
  10. 350 worked fine for me. About 7.8gr for a normal-length Super.
  11. We like the weather here.. except for the allergies.... achoo!
  12. Yeah, and skip the huge pistols all over the shirts-- lots of us will wear nice polos to work, but a big pistol on the front or back isn't going to cut it. I wear my Area 2 Desert Classic and Carter Martin Classic embroidered polos all the time.. paid extra for them too. 'Gimmie' Match t-shirts get relegated to the back of the closet in short order. Note-- leave the year off if you have to order a lot-- then you can sell the same shirt the next year.

    Glock 20

Boy that opens a can of worms.. would .40 in a 10mm barrel (bad idea, but just for arguments sake) be legal? How about .38 in .357 chambers? 38 Supercomp in 38 Super barrels? It would be a lot easier to use the original definition of "caliber" (meaning: diameter of bullet) and leave what the headstamp says alone.
  14. Moderator note.: Let's keep this thread on the 'SS-in-Prod' topic. There is another one for L10 changes
  15. I run no comp. The dot bounce is relatively close to my steel loads, so I leave it that way, since I use it for practice mostly. I believe the STI Singlstack grip is externally identical to the standard grip, so a magwell should fit on there fine, but you might want to ask somebody with one first. The Marvel "STI" mags don't seem to accept basepads. They're single-stack mags with spacer plates bolted around them. The plates add about 1/2" to the magazine. It fits a bit below flush in a Dawson Ice magwell. I'd guess that the single-stack mags would fit about flush with the frame, but extendo basepads should be more available for them.
  16. No ejector needed on frame. Yes there'll be a hole in the back of the slide. Can't help you here. Maybe a little bit. I had to do a bit of work to get a Marvel top end onto a brand new lower I had. I'd go for the single-stack grip if it's going to be a Marvel-only frame. Cheaper and easier to load magazines. The basepads on the Marvel STI mags is extended a bit, but not enough for speedy mag-change practice. They aren't easily replaceable with other basepads either. I think so. I've got 15's in my conversion guns and they work OK. 17 may give you more insurance.
  17. Just be sure to use the correct and exclusive term when you mean one or the other company and not both. They are different companies with different products and different ways of doing business.
  18. Righto. There are pluses and minuses to each. Neither will hold you back from winning a World Shoot or Nationals if you are otherwise good enough. Pick one and practice.
  19. The Dawson aluminum buffs come is a 0.100" variety??? Yup. I got one of each the other day..
  20. Yes CR and Safariland have opposite Velcro (I like the CR style better). The CR belt is a bit bigger than the Safariland belt, so be careful tightening down your mag pouches-- I had one 771 crack across the top of the belt loop not long ago. As a temporary velcro fix, I made some 'gender-changer' velcro pieces by sticking two pieces of self-stick hook to each other, then attaching that to the Safariland holster.
  21. Shot this one yesterday.. pretty standard Strong Hand/Weak Hand classifier. It was interesting how close both strings' times were for many people-- several were only different by a couple hundredths of a second. If the HHF in Open is indeed around 10, it'll be pretty sporty to do well on-- both strings all A's in under 6 seconds each.
  22. Yeah.. before accusing Bill of creating IDPA in order to sell product, maybe he (and the others) created a shooting sport to fit what their idea of "practical" gear was. That they also sell what they think is "practical" gear doesn't seem to be any great coincidence to me.
  23. Dig a pit, start a fire, dump in mystery ammo, run away. Come back when the popcorn is done popping. Hatcher did experiments with setting fire to shotgun shells, rifle and pistol ammo. I think in all his tests, he never got fragments that would penentrate even a cardboard box.
  24. I skipped the shootoffs this year because they were in Barry and I and the awards were both in Quincy. Hold 'em on the last day of the match and I am there.
