  1. The proper amount of heat should get it to release. Rich
  2. who's safety is that, and did you mill away the frame make it fit? Thanks That is Caspians new ambi safety and it does require the frame to be modified Rich
  3. The frames are carbon steel that are hard chromed. Rich
  4. Where to start? Not all gunsmith shops operate under the same business model, here's a few- one man shop, an owner with employee's/apprentices, a shop that makes parts along with gunsmithing, a shop with an internet store, a retail store, refinishing, works on a single platform (like 1911's only), multiple platforms, different types of guns(rifles and shotguns), builds only new guns, works on everything down to the local bb gun owners pile of junk, just carry guns, big game rifles, or just works of art for the collector........................ Then there are the hobbiest, part timers, full time after the day job, full time 60+ hours a week. Then there's the shop that has someone answer the phone, let the machine pick up all calls, e-mail only, who does the web-site/internet store updates themselves or hires it out, does their own book work/taxes and payroll. According to ATF are they just a retailer/gunsmith or are they a manufacturer(more book work and 10% FET tax). All of these things effect price and wait time so comparing one gunsmith to the other is just apples and oranges because there probably isn't two shops running things identical. As to wait time there are lots of variables one shop who stocks a full inventory of parts or one who relies on vendors/distributors or the client to have the parts all the time(on a personal note I've been waiting for three months for 4 sets of sights). Then there is style, reliability, service, resale, name recognition, communication, personality,........ There is alot more, I just scratched the surface. Do your homework fire a few rounds and take that big step, odds are you will never settle for a production line gun again after owning a true custom build. Rich
  5. The SV trigger shoe base works with the Caspian trigger bow.
  6. Canyon Creek is developing a magwell for the Caspian frame, it should be ready by next spring. Rich
  7. Sear spring needs more tension. Rich
  8. I've shot .357 135gr Noslers out of XD's for accuracy testing, you just have to work a load up. Rich
  9. Chad, Why aren't you wanting to change L-10 to L-15 or having Limited changed to 170mm length mags? You are just stuck in your narrow view of what you want, not the entire sport of practical shooting. Rich
  10. I haven't had a slide racker on a gun since '95, I rack from under the front like I do for all of my guns. Rich
  11. Production has been around for 10 years, it's growing and if left alone it will rival Open/Limited. I can remember the the talk of 15 rounds was thrown around back in '03, it was a bad idea back then as it is today. Most people asking for 15 rds just don't understand Production, it's identity is minor scoring, double/like action, concealed type holster, and 10 rounds. Change any one of these and it isn't Prod. anymore. You want to shoot with higher capacity go to Open or Limited, don't try to create a new Div. to suit yourself. Maybe someone needs to compile a complete history of USPSA, for new and seasoned shooters to understand the sport we all enjoy. Rich
  12. I'll take that to mean you can't think of any "competitive" firearms that would be driven into obsolescence. FTR I can’t think of any either. Springfield XD 40 only holds 12 rounds is the first one that comes to mind. Not everyone shoots a 9mm in Production, the Nationals only had what 175 competitors as opposed to the thousands of Production shooters in USPSA who don't go to the Nationals. IPSC went to 15 rounds to stop the arms race and I'll bet there are people in IPSC who want to go to 10 rounds. Rich
  13. Be sure to checkout the Springfield EMP, it's a very well built gun. Some have had issues during break in, I haven't had any problems with the ones I've done. Springfield also has a micro .45 if that's the caliber you want. Rich
  14. I think it's a lack of practice. I can (and I'm sure most can) feel when the slide doesn't go forward. One can tell if the slide goes forward on an empty chamber also. Rich
  15. I always find it interesting at how many times a shooter will try to pull the trigger when the gun is at slide lock. All one needs to know is how to count to 10 and if that's too high to count to you can always learn to subtract. Rich
  16. 9mm/38 super would be the same as the .40, 14 rounds. There will be some free space with the 9mm/38, the .40 is a very tight 14 rounds. I edited my post above I didn't load the last two rounds into the mag until the load and make ready command. If you thinking of shooting Limited with your single stack you will find it use full to have mags that hold 9,10,12,and 14 rounds. This way you can set up the mags to be used by how the stages need to be shot. There was a .45 mag that would hold 13 rounds, it was an off brand mag usually found at gun shows. Rich
  17. 14 rounds and the springs will be over stressed and wear out quickly. When I used them I only loaded the mag with 12 rounds until load and make ready, then put the last two rounds in. If I got 10 loads per spring I was happy, it did make shooting Limited alot of fun. The followers will have to be modified to feed properly. Reliability was about 80%, if the first three fed then they all would feed. It's not that hard to weld two mags together. Rich
  18. The biggest problem I have found with XD owners is they treat the gun like a 1911 when it comes to spring weight. The XD system is nothing like a 1911 system you can't use light recoil springs and expect it to work 100%. I tested XD's extensively with light loads and light springs and the simple fact is neither will run the gun 100%. The 9mm Tactical works best with a power factor of 135+ and a 18# spring, you can get by with a 16# spring but one must keep an eye out for when the spring starts to wear out. The Tactical 40 needs 140+ PF and a 18# spring. Lowering the power factor decreases ejection distance. I know there are plenty of shooters running lighter springs and lower PF and claiming 100% reliability but just wait it will fail and generally at the worst time (a major match). When you pull your slide back an inch it should snap back quickly, if it goes back sluggishly your spring is too light. If you do a hard reload and your slide bumps back and stays back the spring is too light. If you can shake your gun and the slide moves back the spring is too light. These gun have two springs working in opposite directions, lightening one spring gives the advantage in power to the other. In the lighter recoil spring case the firing pin spring will pull the slide out of battery. Using a lighter firing pin requires a softer primer to get 100% ignition. With well over 100K fired out of XD's I have found out what will work and what won't. Don't game your guns function, game the stages your shooting, and practice practice practice you'll find the results are more enjoyable. But what do I know I'm just a dummy that gamed his gun and paid for it at major matches over and over and over............ Rich
  19. Just remember the Nationals is piggy backing off of the Single Stack Classic, the SSC is a skills match where any mistake is costly. There are more people coming to this match just for that fact. Don't go increasing the round count to make it more fun in the eyes of a very few shooters. Running a revo match after the SSC is a good idea, the targets would have to changed even if it's ever so slightly. Running the same stages for two different matches isn't fair or even legal. The idea of running revo shooters within the SSC match just doesn't fly in my eyes. I'm sure if someone was to start putting on a major revo match only, uspsa might just piggy back its Nationals off of it also. Rich
  20. With the G-10 grips the back side can be hollowed out to loose some weight. Rich
  21. Doing it on the cheap, 140mm mag extensions that hold 21 rounds and shoot it as is. If your serious about shooting Ltd, trigger job, sights, extended release, tungsten guide rod(maximum weight benefit), a true magwell(not one that just slips on & off), grip treatment(grip tape or epoxied on grit), any or all will be a benefit. Practice, practice, practice will be the biggest benefit. Rich
  22. Right to left, a padded vise, hammer&punch. Make sure the slide can't turn inside the vise when hitting the sight. I haven't had to mill one out in over six years. Rich
  23. Revi Wear has top quality shirts and great customer service, they are one to look at.
