Finally read the FAQs

Finally read the FAQs (3/11)

  1. I think you'll want to clean before sizing. I clean, lube, size/deprime, clean again to get lube out of the necks especially so powder doesn't bridge, then trim and swage primer pockets if necessary, then load.
  2. For 12 gauge target loads I love Extra lite with 7/8oz and the gray clay buster wads! Red dot is good too as is clays!
  3. Another vote for Winchester AA Super Sports for major match use. 7/8oz reloads for practice and club matches.
  4. Thanks for the advice Kuan! If I go Nova I'll pick up the 24" and see how it handles. If it feels like too much I'll plan to have it cut down. There should be enough meat in the 24" to cut and tap for chokes, right? Thomas
  5. Thanks for the inputs guys! I may wait for the next gun show and see if an older wingmaster can be found on the cheap. Otherwise I'll probably go with the super nova. For barrel lengths, is 26" preferred or everyone going 24"? Thomas
  6. I'm considering picking up a Remington 870 super mag with 3.5" chamber to use in heavy metal 3 gun. Can anyone comment on pros and cons of this platform? I'm thinking 26" barrel. Would there be much benefit to the 3.5" super mag or would a 3" version be preferable? Doesn't look like the loading port on the 3.5 is much bigger but I need to look at them side by side again to confirm. Let me know what y'all think! Thanks! Thomas
  7. Thanks again! This popped it right out. Just a very little bit of filing got it right out!
  8. Thanks I'll give that a try tonight!
  9. I noticed that the bolt catch on my JP rifle was flopping around loose at the end of the Texas 3gun Championship. Upon inspection, I found that the plunger is not putting tension on the bolt catch. An empty magazine will still push the bolt catch up to lock the bolt back, however, tilting the rifle slightly to the left and cycling the bolt will also lock it back because the bolt catch will rock enough to activate. I drove out the roll pin and sure enough, the plunger is stuck in the lower. The spring will allow it to compress slightly but it would come out far enough to contact the bolt catch and keep tension to force it to be disengaged until an empty mag follower pushes up against it. Has anyone else encountered this and have a simple trick to resolve? I've done some searching and seen folks talking about drilling a hole in the plunger to be able to hook something in there to pull it out. I'd like to try something less dramatic first, if there's an option. Thanks! Thomas
  10. Just looked and both for 9mm and 38sc I've got the Lee U-die screwed in as normal, with Dillon lock ring on top of the tool head. Sure the lock ring is only grabbing a few threads on the die body but it's held in place for thousands of rounds of each. Do I have something waiting to fail in the shadows here?
  11. With HS6 I was using about 9.6gr with a 115gr MG JHP. Start low and work up though as I was running about 172pf with that combo.
  12. I went with JP for the mount: http://www.jprifles.com/buy.php?item=JPFTSM-34E
  13. I'm liking my 1.5-8 XTRII. The eye box is maybe not as good as the Vortex Razor but hasn't caused me any major issues. I've run it now in a few club matches as well as at Rocky Mountain. I think the higher range on max magnification helps me more than the 1.5x hurts me on the low end. If you shoot a lot of close range stuff though(like 75 yards or less), I can see how the 1.5x would be distracting. Like others have said, I find the turrets to be good and stiff and stay in place well. They are easy to check that the zero has not inadvertently been moved too.
