  1. Not if he hopes to shoot that in Production..... :P Of course not for Production but for Limited when the 40 comes out. Now my 5/16" tungsten rod will make Production weight. Rich
  2. No matter how it comes from the factory a gunsmith trigger job will always be better. Rob, I'm sure I'll be able to improve that rear sight and make you a tungsten guide rod in the 5+ ounce range(The 4.5 is already 4.1 oz). Rich
  3. "The $1400 price tag is quite suprising though" That was for another custom competition XD not the 5.25, they haven't been released yet. Rich
  4. With that type of thinking maybe they need to redesign the 1911 it to has a high bore axis to shoot it fast. This bore axis excuse just doesn't fly. Learn to grip the gun properly and shoot good ammo, you won't be able to see any difference. Oh and I've seen people shooting .013 splits with excellent accuracy out of an XD/m, maybe if the bore axis is lowered they could do .012 or .011's. As Flex would say pick a gun and shoot it. Rich Your comparing a metal frame to a polymer. I own both the m&p and a xdm and shot with my reloads you can for sure tell the difference in muzzle flip. Its just a fact. I'm not comparing guns, I'm using your theory on bore axis. The difference between the XD/m, m&p, and glock is insignificant, now if your looking at inches then it might hold a few drops of water. Rich

  6. I use the .186 first then I run the .195, after that I put a .003 shim between the barrel and slide lug. I have another .195 cutter that I use just for the final cut. The last time I checked that cutter had done over 65 barrels. It will only need a light filing to finish the fit. Rich
  7. They will leave the CC trigger job intact, they know the work I do. Contact them and they will take care of the shipping both ways and put a new barrel in. Usually they do it in a very quick turn a round. Rich
  8. The Brownells lug cutter and files. Rich
  9. I've only done a couple barrels with the new one, so far I think it will be the way I fit barrels from now on. I'm going to get several cutters to match slide stop pin diameters. The first one took awhile but now I'm familiar with how the jig needs to be used I should be able to fit barrels in a fraction of the time I've been doing it. If you fit a lot of barrels it will probably be worth the investment, if you do a couple a year it won't really pay for its self. Rich
  10. There are still some forged framed guns around if you look for them, it's a better choice than the current cast frame. You can do more with the forged frame when it comes to parts. SV's ITS trigger system can be used, also SV mags can be used with a modified mag catch. The grip doesn't feel squared on the front strap if you have it checkered. The factory grip panels can be epoxied with grit without adding too much more to the width. Or you can wrap the grip area with grip tape. Here's a HC I did in in 10mm. I like the Caspian-Springfield- SV (metal grip)platforms if your looking for more weight in your hand. Rich
  11. I don't subscribe to the lighter pull equals more accuracy school, in my opinion you will have to spend the time mastering the pull in either a heavy or light trigger, a light trigger can lead to bad habits (like trigger slap), When did trigger slapping become a bad habit? As long as the gun doesn't move when the trigger is pulled or slapped, either way is right. Rich
  12. The base pads slide on from the front and are retained with a set screw in the back.
  13. If I had to build one today on a 1911 HC platform it would be; #1 6" Caspian frame bushing barrel #2 6" Springfield frame(Forged) bushing barrel using SV mags #3 6" SV steel grip bushing barrel For slides SV or Caspian and for kicks have a 5" top end fitted. There would be no others considered. Non 1911 platform #1 Springfield XDm full on custom #2 Tanfoglio Ltd Pro SA #3 Tanfoglio 6" Hunter in .40 No other platforms considered. Rich
  14. A jewelers saw works the best for cutting a tab, very thin cut. Rich
  15. Factory is 18#, pull your slide back about an inch and let it go. If it snaps back quickly your spring is fine, if it goes back sluggishly it needs to be replaced. Using a recoil spring lighter than 16# in an XD Tactical is flirting with reliability issues. Rich
  16. WTF? Are you smokin' crack or something? I have no reason to hate on Rich. Well I would have noticed this earlier but I was too busy sticking pins in my Voodoo doll of Scott. I don't know where someone came up with the hate thing. Rich
  17. Do you have any picts with an IDPA legal mag in the well? No, I don't have any pics with an idpa mag in the magwell. When I get the time I'm going to make an idpa/ipsc base pad for the box. Rich
  18. The magwell and base pads were designed to work together. Rich
  19. The magwells can be fitted to the idpa box, the sides need to be thinned. I still have a few thinned aluminum idpa wells in black available. To have a true magwell the frame has to modified and that will take it out of Production useability. The other magwells available are trying to serve dual purposes and don't do the job of being a magwell at 100% of useable opening. Rich
  20. Canyon Creek makes a true magwell for the XD/m line of pistols, it actually funnels the mag into the gun. Some others out there are just a metal/plastic protector around the bottom of the grip area.
  21. Here's a photo of Mike Seeklander, take note of the two pieces of brass. Rich
  22. What weight recoil spring are you using? Did this happen after a reload? The extra power firing pin spring is trying to push the slide back, if your recoil spring doesn't have enough force to keep the slide closed you will get "light strikes". "Light strikes" is the wrong term, what is happening is the firing pin safety block is stopping the FP from going all the way forward because you slide is "out of battery". Rich
  23. Yes, same mods can be done on either one. Rich
