Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Ummm... eyes and ears? For throwing and blowing? My interest is almost gone for this show. Every week there's about 10 minutes of shooting, but this week had about 10 seconds of shooting (for elimination voting). Next episode does look good, but I'm sure they won't show enough. Watching it on DVR, it seems like the show is only 25 minutes or so.
  2. Shooting a 8" plate at 35 yds without a problem. I would think that is accurate enough for any match.
  3. Update. Huge difference!! Accuracy and splits greatly improved. I had a .15 yesterday that I haven't had since I shot open. The biggest difference is on tight shots, 12y partial with no shoot was no problem at all. After removing more of the overtravel stop, everything works perfect and at 3.5 lbs and very short take up and over-travel, it's a dream to shoot.
  4. Congrats to the History Channel for picking Jay. It's working! Do you think there would be this much discussion if all the contestants were GM level shooters <yawn>. This added some drama and that's what makes these "reality" shows work. Now if they could only get some shooting on Wipeout!
  5. Wow, what a difference! I do have to remove more of the overstop since I was getting the light primer strikes, although it went away after 100 rounds. I'll remove some more of it today. I also did some sanding of the trigger surface (the edges were a bit sharp where it meets the trigger safety piece). Now it's around 4 lbs with little take up and short overtravel. I would say it feels like it's only 40% of the original trigger pull (length of pull). Now the only thing I want to change is the little spring for the middle trigger piece (safety part)... It's a bit heavier than I want. Anyone mess with this before?
  6. It finally made it here! Powder River ultimate match trigger assy from Brownells. After messing with it for a while yesterday, I finally understand where are the parts go and how the system works (all my experience is with 1911's). Today I look forward to fitting the parts and trying it at the range. I'll keep everyone posted.
  7. Did anyone notice how Jermaine was bringing the gun back in to his chest every time the doors closed? He wasted a lot of time reacquiring targets, keeping his gun up and breaking the shot as the doors were opening would have easily given him the win. 3 shots per opening was definitely manageable, but without a doubt he could have shot twice every opening with splits at 2 seconds. Big mental mistake on his part. Jay did what he needed to do and learned a bunch after missing his first 4-5 shots.
  8. I agree completely, Jay was put in the position to pick the team so he assumed responsibility as the team leader. He's also a golf pro, so his job is to teach. Although a bit annoying, that's just his normal self wanting to help/teach. I can see Daryl becoming a problem.
  9. If you don't mind me asking, how many stages and what's the round count look like?
  10. Thanks, I went to their site a few days ago and they were out of stock. I decided to look elsewhere and found it on Brownell's, so I ordered it a couple days ago.. hoping to get shipping confirmation tomorrow.
  11. I agree completely. Do you think TJ or TGO would have a problem with that 1911? Hell no. Give a kid a $3k+ open gun as a teenager and watch him grow up into a great shooter with the perfect equipment and this is what you get. The excuse that he didn't take it seriously? WTF? Sounds like whining to me. I was extremely disappointed with the USPSA representation especially when the history channel made it well know that CT was a world champion. Not good representation for USPSA, hopefully he redeems our sport.
  12. I've seen a few people that try to overpower the grip to fight the recoil. In reality all they need is a firmer base with weight a little more forward and elbows relaxed to absorb the recoil. Or you could just grip the hell out of it.
  13. If you watch the top shooters, TT and Max M. they will get the reload done before the first step upon moving.. it's almost a standing reload because they get this done so fast. Mag button is depressed, weight is shifting in direction of movement, and magazine is inserted prior to the foot touching the ground. In a perfect world, you can get your eyes on the next position and put everything you have into getting to that position instead of fumbling with a magazine. My thoughts? If done correctly and efficiently, a moving reload is VERY close to a standing reload.
  14. This makes sense. I've done millions of reloads, but only with open magwells. The motions are there already and muscle memory is in fully effect, but the precision of a production magwell is what I need to perfect. I'll start practicing this way and hopefully when things go wrong I'll be able to narrow it down to something small.
  15. Definitely not disagreeing with you, just trying to understand what you are saying better. First, I always thought you were supposed to focus on the mag well, so you are saying to keep eyes on the mag? You also say keep your head up. How do you do this and keep eyes on the mag? Do you pick up the mag with your peripheral when it comes into range? I've been doing a lot of dry fire lately and practicing mag changes, and fumbling a lot. Any advice is greatly appreciated. You never need to look for your magazine, they are in the same place all the time. I believe me means keeping your eyes level and picking up the magazine 6" or so before the magwell and looking it into the gun, the target at this point will be blurry in the distance until the magazine is started into the gun at which point you acquire the next target/position with a better focus. Think of it as eyes on front sight, shot fired front sight lifts, eyes on magwell, eyes pick up magazine coming towards magwell, eyes focus on magazine entering magwell, eyes focus on target as magazine is fully inserted support hand regripping gun, gun pushes towards where you are looking, eyes come back to front sight and next shot is fired. All in .8-1.00 if things go right.
