  1. The JP Bennie Cooley brake and Surefire MB55K are pretty much the same in terms of muzzle control. Can't answer the suppressor fit question for you.... Mick
  2. move to AZ so you can shoot matches through the winter? Mick
  3. I bet what you're seeing on the back of the clamp cut on the mag tube is due to the tube unscrewing under recoil, so the back of the cut is forced against the clamp. That's is why I put a mark on the nut and one on the tube, so I can spot any movement easily. I also put black electrical tape on the inside of the clamp, to make for a no slip surface that stops the mag tube spinning. Mick
  4. The Daniel Defense lightweight mid-length gas is a good choice. Bravo Company also makes one, and paired with their KMR hand guard makes for a very light combo. If your friend doesn't care about chrome lined, then the Voodoo Innovations ultralight mid-length gas is another to look at. Mick
  5. Heavy Divisions should have major PF caliber, .40SW or larger, mag limit 10rds. I have no issue with auto shotguns in Heavy Divisions, but limit the capacity at either 8 or 10. Mick
  6. The $10 processing fee comes from the third party that Practiscore uses to handle the online payment. It is an option only, which is why the mail in payment process is still in place. Mick
  7. Is the gas block aligned to the gas port properly? A lot of gas blocks require a 0.02" off set from the barrel shoulder.... Mick It should toss brass at 4 o clock,1 o clock is undergassed,u cant have that shooting competitively, going w an adjustable block will allow u to tune the gun so youll have lower recoil, less muzzle rise, and the ability to stay on target easier.I like the BTE blocks, theyre cost effective and work well in addition to being small and light. JP and a few others make good blocks but theyre pricey and do the same as the little guy., Once I found the BTE stuff its all Ive used.. hope this helps PS BTE is battle tested equipment, owned by vets Took it out again this afternoon and it ran like a champ. 100% reliable and only 2 instances of it not locking back on empty; used a variety of 7 mags/brands. Still kicking brass to 1 o'clock though. Recoil is good and it runs fast. Tried to outrun it with the SD3G trigger and couldn't. Could it simply be the case of a new upper and BCG getting to know the existing lower and bolt catch? I made zero changes to rifle since last session and same handloads.
  8. Is TTI using the standard BCM barrel or the hammer forged BFH? Mick
  9. Regarding the number of Competitors that shoot SMM3G. RO's/Staff and some Company Sponsors shoot the Match on Wednesday and Thursday. These folks are also Competitors and shoot the Match for score. There are also Sponsored Shooters who shoot the Match, whereby Sponsor slots are allocated based on level of Sponsorship of the Match - these are the wonderful companies that provide all of the items that are on the Prize Tables. Sponsored shooter Registration is done via a completely different process. Mick SMM3G Sponsor Coordinator
  10. The few Nordic barrel builds I have seen all have the gas blocks wide open, as the gas port is smaller by design, so you don't need adjustable gas.... Mick
  11. They line up perfect on the Samson 15" rails and rifle length gas system.... Mick
  12. There is also the 20ga Remington 11-87 Youth models. These come with 21" barrel and short stocks that can be lengthened with spacers. An EZ loader can be trimmer to fit these. I wish Remington would make the Versa in the Youth configuration in 20ga... A 21" Beretta 1301 might also be worth looking at... Mick
  13. this is a collection of the hands down best stances out there. It covers rifle, shotgun and pistol... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4g5p6b-ZZ5Y&feature=youtu.be Mick
  14. I have found the biggest issue to be the straightness of the gas tubes themselves, and getting the proper alignment of the barrel nut.... Mick
  15. I've also found that excessive gas leaks open up my group sizes. That's why I avoid Mexican food and beans before a big match. Refried beans can change the noise from a tic to a phhrrrrrtttt... Seriously, though, you want to feel for dragging and binding as the gas tube enters the bolt carrier key. You can tell by the noise, as Kurt has indicated. You can also feel it as well. With hand guard off, gently push the gas tube to one side with your hand, and then let the bolt carrier (minus bolt) drop. You will both hear and feel the difference. Mick
  16. The dead blow effect is there for full auto firing and is not needed in a semi auto. So goes the theory.... Mick
  17. I am using the regular Bennie Cooley JP brake. Before switching to the TACCOM ULW and TTI reduced power recoil spring, the rifle would experience muzzle dip due to the return stroke of the buffer/BCG. Mick
  18. Adjust your gas tube using a large, flat blade screw driver inside the upper. Tweak the gas tube left or right and test with the bolt carrier minus the bolt for alignment. Mick
  19. I'm running a very similar setup. I threw on a JP brake, but the biggest difference was using the TACCOM ULW buffer with TTI reduced power recoil spring to take the snappiness out of the rifle.... Mick
  20. Clamp on. Holds tighter and provides a better gas seal. Set screw only if you need the lower profile under the barrel... Mick
  21. Your problem is most likely the small gas port on the Nordic barrel. It was designed to work without an adjustable gas block. A friend's rifle with the same barrel has his JP gas block wide open to get the rifle to bolt to lock back. At 10 clicks, your SLR block is also virtually wide open as well.... Mick
  22. I trust that Magpul is working the issue, especially now that we know their Gen2 mags work fine, and now the Lancers.... Mick
  23. Your white upper block that uses the two pins will be fine. It is the same one I use. No need for a reaction rod - I have never used one.... I highly recommend buying a proper barrel nut wrench - use the right tool for the job... Mick
