  1. This thought has occurred to me, and will be testing for it after work. I have installed bobbed GI hammers with JP triggers a number of times, all without issue. That combo and bobbing procedure is even there in the JP instructions. I will say that the bobbed hammers I have used in the past were all rounded DPMS. This one was a notched RRA hammer. Mick When I was reading the build this caught my attention "JP trigger with bobbed GI hammer."
  2. I assembled a new rifle for a buddy. Aero upper and lower, Spike's mid-length gas 16" barrel with pinned gas block and 5.56 chamber, AIM M16 (full mass) BCG, RRA lower parts kit, DSG mil-spec carbine buffer tube with 3oz buffer, JP trigger with bobbed GI hammer. Checked headspace with a GI gauge - passed, no problems. Dropped a round with no primer in the chamber, bolt closed with no issues. Dropped a live round in the chamber, turned rifle barrel up and it wouldn't fall out. Tried to pry it out with a finger. Still wouldn't come out. Figured I would drop the bolt on the round and pull it out with the extractor (that was one mistake). Hammer was back, safety was on, finger off the trigger and rifle was pointed in safe direction. I hit the bolt release and BOOM! I was stunned for a good while, not expecting the round to go off. Small chunk of ground missing in front of me. No injuries. Round in question was a WCC (Israeli manufacture), 55gr Hornady FMJ behind 24.8gr AA2230 with a CCI400 small rifle primer. Spent case has a raised area around the firing pin indentation After regaining my composure, I tried to figure out what had happened. Pulled everything apart and with BCG removed, I dropped another round of the same batch into the chamber. It didn't fall in with a "clink", so I pushed it out with a rod. Ran a patch through the barrel, and rounds now dropped in with a "clink" and fell out freely. My other mistake was never running a patch down the bore after assembly. I will be doing further live round testing over the next few days, but my theory at this point is that the chamber, neck area was dirty. With the round not fully in the chamber, dropping the bolt resulted in the slam fire due to firing pin inertia. Any other theories? Firing pin too long, perhaps? Any possibility of hammer follow through? As I said, i will be doing further testing over the next few days. Mick
  3. Great! I was going to buy another LMOS carrier, but sounds like I will wait for the new one to come out. Any idea on ETA that you can share? Mick
  4. Complete flat top uppers can be had for $80. Simply swap out the parts onto the new upper. Mick
  5. Mark, can you expand on the new JP lightened carrier? Is it lighter than the current LMOS? Titanium alloy, perhaps? Mick
  6. The zombie pink and green are VersaMax tactical models, not the Competition... Mick
  7. For those that are experiencing loose extended choke tubes on their shotguns, there is a simple solution. Add a little grease to the choke tube threads. This will keep them in place. Recoil on shotguns will shake everything loose. With an extended choke tube, you have all manner of vibrations impacting the extended portion of the choke where it mates with the end of the barrel. Those stresses are what causes the choke tube to loosen up. Adding the grease helps fill up the threads and dampen the forces in that area. Mick
  8. With a standard Lee die in station 1, I was having to guide a lot of the cases into the die, as the case mouth was clipping the entry into the die. By putting the Dillon resizing die back in station 1, I no longer have to guide the case in. It also centres everything so that everything goes straight into the U die in station 2. As was said above, the Dillon resizer also does the initial sizing, making the work easier for the U-die in station 2. Now, if you use the U-die in station 2, you MUST remove the decapping pin and internals as that is also the priming station.... Mick
  9. If true, is this not gaming it a little too much? However, if within the 3GN rules, then so be it.... Mick
  10. The Dillon gauge is not a chamber gauge - this is per Dillon. As for the EGW .223 versus 5.56, I have tried both, purchased from Dillon. Initially I went with the .223, thinking that it might be slightly tighter. My rifles are all 5.56 chambers or Wylde chambers. I gauged factory 5.56mm of various types and most of them would not fit the .223 gauge. Swapped the .223 gauge out for a 5.56 model and all the factory ammo fit. So, 5.56 mm EGW chamber gauge for me... Mick
  11. Just started playing with a Lee U-die on my Dillon 650. Prior to that I was using standard Dillon dies and was experiencing bullet setback issues with FC brass and Precision Delta bullets. I switched to a standard Lee resizing die in station 1 and a Lee FCD in station 5. Using the Lee resizer meant I had to guide the case into the die most of the time, slowing down the reloading process. After getting the U-die, I loaded the first sample rounds by putting back the Dillon resizer in Station 1, and the Lee U-die with the decapping guts removed in Station 2. Also replaced the Lee FCD with the Dillon taper crimp die. My questions are: Should I continue to use the Lee FCD? With the powder thrower on Station 3, should I bend the actuating rod a little? Mick
  12. I am working this issue right now. I am not happy with the degree of setback either. I purchased a Lee undersize "U" die and installed that on the second station of my 650, with the decapping guts removed. This should have the effect of increasing neck tension and minimizing any setback... Mick
  13. Cheapest way is to find someone with a Roulette Tactical +1 end cap that will sell it to you, or buy the +1 cap from Shooter's Source (same design). Mick
  14. You can run 20ga shells using a California Competition Works shell holder by adding a strip of the fuzzy side of Velcro along the back of the shell holder. Mick
  15. So I want to begin reloading for 45ACP for 3 gun heavy divisions. I already load for 9mm and 40 on my Dillon XL650. Brass I will be using is small primer once fired, mixed head stamp. Pistol using the ammo will be a Glock 41. In my pile of dies I found a tool head with what look like RCBS steel resizing dies with an RCBS seater and a Dillon taper crimp die (set up by previous owner). I don't want to bother with lubing the brass. In reloading 9mm, I came across thin walled FC brass which gave me bullet setback issues, so I changed from a Dillon to Lee resizer to combat that issue (eventually getting rid of all the FC stamped brass). Which carbide resizing die should I use for 45ACP? Go with a Dillon, or use a Lee, or something else? Mick
  16. The whole point behind the original +1 and +2 caps that I designed with Roulette was to be able to go from 8 shell capacity through to 9 or 10 without having to remove your clamp assembly from the barrel. Shooter's Source makes their version, and Nordic now has their coupling nut system also available. Mick
  17. I'm wondering why Colt Competition are building a rifle with an adjustable gas block, yet use a full weight carrier with a H-buffer. The consensus seems to be to use a standard 3oz carbine buffer and a full weight carrier in the case of the Stag 3G, but with the adjustable gas block on the Colt, I'm wondering why they didn't go with a lightened carrier... Mick
  18. I just run the small spacer as well.... That, and use the lower comb height adjustment. Mick
  19. I believe the Mesa tactical pistol grip stock is 12" LOP.... Mick
  20. Safariland needs to make a QLS plate with the ELS hole pattern.... Mick
  21. you will need the set screw version of the SLR gas block. With the clamp on version, you will have to either grind down the socket head screws, or go to your local ACE Hardware and get replacement low profile button head screws. Mick
  22. The Timney drop in trigger is designed to be used with the standard hammer and trigger pins. is it possible that you are using the oversize KNS pins which are throwing the trigger timing off? Mick
  23. Not at SMM3G they don't. HMO can use a semi shotgun, but pistol must still be .44 cal or higher with 165 min PF. I see that under 3GN rules HMO can use a 9mm pistol, but HM can't. That seems odd to me as well.... Mick HMO gets to use 9mm and semi shotguns if they like.
  24. Not sure I understand the purpose of HM getting a 1 hit concession and HMO not. Would make me not want to shoot HMO.... Mick
