  1. You are NOT supposed to ease the charging handle forward on an AR15 (or an AK, FAL, M14, etc. for that matter). Draw charging handle to rear and let it go. Are you running a barrel with a rifle barrel extension with an M4 ramp cut upper? That could cause you problems... Mick
  2. Do I win one for being first to guess right? Mick Yes sir!
  3. Be very careful with +1 and +2 extensions for the old style Nordic tubes. Glenn at Roulette did make some as custom orders for those that requested them, but remember that the old thread pattern leaves the tube thin and prone to breakage. There is a very good reason that Nordic went to the new thread pattern (besides being stronger, it also makes the tube reversible). Might be easier to just buy a new Nordic MXT tube only in the longer length that you're looking for. That, or get the same length MXT tube you currently have and use the Shooter's Source copy of the Roulette extension... Mick
  4. So can these barrels be purchased without the gas block, for those wanting to use adjustable gas? Also, if these things are shooting softer than an 18" Nordic barrel with a longer gas system, what is it that is resulting in that performance? Even smaller gas port with the right balance between port pressure and dwell time? Mick
  5. I have spoken to Todd at SLR about the need to make an adjustment screw with an extra spline (4 versus current 3) for more adjustability for this exact reason. Hopefully he can make a finer adjustment screw at some point. the SLR design is great, otherwise! Mick
  6. ^^^^ What Steve said. My 1301 is running the Hiviz sight off my Versamax. I had to get a different screw, of course, but makes a big difference versus the OEM sight... Mick
  7. The trick to shooting SWC's in Tanfoglio's is to load the cartridge long, otherwise they will get hung up on the top of the chamber... Mick
  8. Heaven forbid you go to You Tube and look up the show Bogan Hunters! I will put an Aussie Bogan up against any American Redneck Mick Looked it up and this is hilarious: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bogan
  9. Do they have red necks in England? What do you call them? Mick PS - and before you ask, they are called Bogans in Australia....
  10. Having shot regular handguards and carbon fibre hanndguards, the ultra thin MI Gen 2 style get hot quickest, followed by regular diameter handguards, then lastly ventilated carbon fibre. BUT, you have to be shooting a LOT of rounds very quickly to have an issue. Not likely in most 3 gun stages... Mick
  11. Why do I have the scene from Super Troopers about a moustache ride swirling about my head? Mick
  12. In my testing on the mono tube, I had custom one piece end caps made to solve the issue (teeth cut into the end cap to increase tension). For the standard nut, adding a spring washer or o-ring underneath should do the trick, which is probably what Kurt is referring to. Mick
  13. Nordic barrels typically have smaller gas ports meaning the CA block should be perfect for your needs. On the builds I have seen with Nordic barrels and adjustable gas and LMOS carriers, the owners have all opened up the blocks to max. Mick
  14. Only reason to go Evo Keymod is that it is slightly lighter than the standard version... Mick
  15. Why different rule sets between Club and Pro? Does that not just confuse Competitors and RO's alike? Mick
  16. 3oz is also the weight of a standard carbine buffer... Mick
  17. You want neither a break or a muscle break. You want a muzzle brake.... :-) Mick
  18. US military M16 barrels are not CHF, and they seem to work just fine. Seeing that you can get a new chrome lined barrel for ~$200, the CHF barrel will have to last at least 50% longer to make it worth the extra cost. Pat Roger's own tests with one of EAG's BCM loaner guns, "Filthy 14", went over 40K rounds with minimal maintenance, and that was with a standard BCM barrel. Mick
  19. Define 30 round factory configuration length. Is it USGI aluminium 30rd length? If so, Troy 30rd mags and Magpul 30rd mags are illegal, as they are longer than USGI. 100rd C-Mags are legal as they are shorter than a USGI 30rd mag. What if someone wanted to shoot an AK in a 3GN match? Does that put them in Open because of the mag length? :-) Mick
  20. My Burris MTAC 30 developed a loose illumination housing during today's 3 gun match. Illumination knob still rotates fine and reticle lights up, but the housing underneath the dial is flopping about. Is this something that can be tightened down and fixed by me, or should it be sent back to Burris? If I can fix it at home, does anyone know how to get underneath the battery housing? Mick
  21. Remove the expander ball from the Dillon resizing die to increase your neck tension. Got that piece of advice direct from Dillon.... Mick
  22. You are asking the correct question. I'll see what I can find, unless someone knows the answer. Here is another reference; http://www.ar15barrels.com/prod/operation.shtml Note the dwell time. This is the term for the time the projectile is still in the barrel past the gas port. Note the 0.0002 seconds (0.2ms) for 20" and 14.5" barrels. My assumptions gave 0.00015 seconds. Not too shabby for simplistic math! if there is one thing I've learned, is that even simple models can get you to the right answer quickly... Mick
