  1. I use the green now (just switched them) because I can follow the sights better. As a shooter in the other thread said, as an open shooter I see the red dot where I want it and do not even look for the rear sight relationship. Brian
  2. I would stick with the Apeiro. If it runs with the ammo that you are using you should be fine and if it doesn't just send it back to STI and they will fix it for you. I know 2 shooters that had feed issues with their edges (factory ammo) and STI fixed it for them and now their guns run with factory ammo and the longer loads as well. As far as the creep you can take out some of the pre travel on the trigger yourself by taking it apart and adjusting the tab on the bow. Brian
  3. Everything just looked backwards! Try putting the gun in your right hand so it will look better! For the one that you went up range and then had to back track, if you have to set up in one specific point that long and adjust to aim at the targets it is just faster to go to the port anyway. Same stage, why did you go all the way down just to back up again? It would have been better to just engage the left side port, then the right and the other right and then go downrange. Unless something in the back activates something up range it is not worth it and just eats up time.
  4. Start working on your transitions and splits using drills that are all over this forum. Those targets were all extremely close and can be engaged a lot smoother. The setup on the first port, I would have set initially to to left so the transition to the right target would have been easier without the movement to get in position. Looks like you just need a little more confidence in your sight picture to trust what you see and not second guess it. Brian
  5. I have been known to have a fast finger! I know I have had some here and there but they were all probably accidental bump firing during a stage or a drill. .12 to .15 is about as fast as i can go on demand with a very occasional .11 in there. You should have posted this in another 2 or 3 months so we could play around before the season really starts. If the thread is still alive then, and I remember, I will mess around with it and post a video (good or bad). Brian
  6. Make sure that you do seperate the practice for the games and for the real world with your duty/carry holsters. I have to leave the duty holster and equipment at work so I never do get to practice with them but when I do live fire I will work on the game aspect on most sessions and then work on the real world tactics / quick drills with my off duty at the end of one or when with other LEOs. I am more about the game though 1.3 with a duty holster is good, most (non uspsa) shooters take over 2 seconds and it has been proved several times that a perp can cover 5-7 yards before an average LEO can get it out of the holster. (edited out because i went back and read the initial post) Remember to be honest with what you see in dry fire and let live fire validate it. Brian
  7. I think I know what he is talking about. I remember when a new face would ask a question and generate responses that where not "try a search" which can come off very bad or short for someone unfamiliar.
  8. 4 on the belt + 1 in the gun and a starter/OS mag in the back pocket for a big stage.
  9. I do not like the idea of Vegas for me. There are too many distractions and I would find myself up too late at night to be productive the next day
  10. Years ago you could see results by class. I do not know why they ever stopped using it.
  11. If you like a certain holster and think it will improve your shooting get it. It helps support the sponsors that support the sport. Sometime new gear or a new gun gives the perfect excuse to go practice some more or go to a few more matches, that will make you a better shooter! I have a ghost and like the fact that my open and Limited guns are out there for all to see and admire! (J/K) I also have a bladetech doh for production. Yes I can draw almost as fast with a good solid grip but with an open holster I can knock .2-.3 seconds off my average time with a scoop/slap draw on a close open target. That puts me almost 1/2 second ahead of my draw with the DOH. That is a slight advantage at certain times! Advantage of the DOH are I get a good consistant grip almost every time and I know the gun is securely in place, which is extremely important. Competition type advantage is it looks good and I still get a good consistant grip but if I throw in some scloop/slap draws I will occasionally have to adjust my grip after the first target because it is not always consistant. Brian
  12. It is not just the few minutes of actual trigger time. I like to get away and releive some stress and shooting does it pretty good for most of us. I enjoy the comraderie and banter that goes back and forth. I also like the challenge of breaking things down and working a stage out before I am ever on deck. I really like to see a stage shot in a way that I didn't see and that I know is a better plan than mine (especially more cool to see when it is a newer shooter that does it). I am sure we all had experiences just hanging out with friends and not doing anything at the same time that we all had a fun time doing. Matches are similar to me most of the time. That is the reason why I enjoy the entire match experience. Plus, I like to hear Jim's voice! (especially when he yells at everone) Brian
  13. I either ignore them or I turn to them and ask them how they will shoot the stage or how I should probably shoot the stage and bug them for advise. I play a lot and cross the line while playing often with my humor. If I can not offend someone in some way they are a saint. I have not experienced it in a while though, I guess I would actually have to shoot to see who the new distractions are. Jim, am I an obnoxious shooter??????
  14. I disagree with the B, C, and D for a FLDC gun. A stock edge will not hold anyone back, do not let one single trial of someone elses gun be a true deciding factor. I can not tell you how many times I tried some one elses gun and thought that it might feel better than mine. The truth is that whenever we get a new toy that there is a honeymoon phase where it just seems better all around. Unless someone is making real strides in their shooting, they will be right back to performing where they were long before the first sleeve of primers are gone. The gun could weigh 10 pounds, when that timer goes off I would not know it. Brian
  15. We sort of have it already with steel challenge.
  16. Thats sort of like cramming for a final right before the test isn't it? If i dryfire for the match it will be in the days leading up to it, otherwise i just get a few draws and sight aquisition in at the safe table. Brian
  17. I forgot all about this thread and had a calling for production in the past few months. Can I be signed up for the race in both production and limited? 61.9% in production Brian
  18. If we were to get rid of the classification system we would see a lot less participation at our local matches. As far as being classed the same across the board, I am not really against it but it is not fair for people with vision problems that shoot open to try production or limited and be expected, even with practice, to similarly perform. Brian
  19. Shot it yesterday, don't know the total time but all A's in under 7 I believe. Just have to see where it comes out at. first string second string

I plan to but I have not signed up for it yet. I tried idpa once many years ago. Any trigger time is good and I am sure there is stuff to be learned there as well. It was a fun match and the idpa at ob is probably why attendance was sort of light today.

Shot another match today. Have not had the chance to really dryfire lately or get any live fire in. We had 5 stages today. I shot 3 of them ok and had 2 bad stages. I only had 2 misses all match but I was pissed about it. The misses occurred on stage 2 and were on a very tight target with a hard lean. I did have to re-engage steel four or five times. I believe I was having trigger control problems. I have to get back to basics again. One of the steel misses I ran dry and had to reload, once that happened I just lost focus and intentionally just let most of a full mag go. It was fun but terrible to salvage the stage. I did just join the club that I shot the match in. Hopefully I will get a chance to squeeze in a live fire or 2 a month and definitely get a few weeklies in before any majors or level 2s that I will shoot. Either way how I actually end up I had a great time and shot on a great squad again! I did take vids with my old fashioned phone. If I can get them downloaded I will put them in my YouTube video page, it has been awhile since I have taken any video. I do find that when I know video is being taken that I do make mistakes. I like to think I do shoot better if I do not take vids at all. It is like I know it is ere and I try to do good for the camera instead of just focussing on what I have to. Brian
  22. There is nothing really that different, customs are generally better fitted with tighter tolerances and smoother actions, better triggers, etc. I have seen plenty of trubors that run and shoot great. The customs give better options for what you like: Safeties, grip mods already done, parts used for the build, custom slide lightening, and so on. There is also the build time to consider. You are the only one that can decide if the differences are worth it or not. Before you order a custom with a really light slide shoot someone elses that is close to what you think you want. Not everyone likes the really light slides and how they shoot. I see a lot less, and more consistant, dot rise with my old major open gun than I do when I shoot other peoples extremely lightened slides. Although I agree they look a lot better they just do not shoot better for me. Brian
  23. I know I would not give up my job and retirement plan for what could just be a few short years of being a fully sponsored shooter.
