  1. I can notice differences in loads at practice and also in how the gun reacts to them, ie slightly slower or faster slide speed and recovery along with the felt recoil, but with the pressure of a timer in a real match I do not see a difference at all between major and minor loads. I have had test ammo that was slightly sub major mixed with test ammo that was 175 pf ammo in the same magazine and couldnt tell a difference during a match. I would agree with Steve that once you get to a certain place, calling shots all the time, it almost doesn't matter. Different platforms will be different though, in my opinion. Brian
  2. I wish Dave the best and I am sure he will be a terrific ambassador for the sport and what ever company he signs with.
  3. Jerry Barnhart also shot with a finger on the trigger guard. I use to but I dry fired a lot 2 years ago to change it. I did notice something weird, I could get much faster splits and more controllable with the finger on the guard but at distant targets or steel it would almost always shoot left at ignition, I think it was a sympathetic pull with the weak hand index finger. If it works for you use it, it is already proven that 2 of the greatest ever do not have a problem, if it doesn't then change it. Brian
  4. Take the mags apart and make sure the former owner did not try to limit capacity on them. I have a boatload of p14 mags and have never had a problem loading them to 13 easy and using a loader or brute force for 14. Most I can load easy enough to 14. Brian
  5. It is a little hard to promote the sport for minors in a lot of respects. In most contries minors can not buy a gun of any kind never mind a handgun. Half of the people that shoot IPSC are in this country where, even with tougher laws in some states, shooting guns is as American as baseball and is a right not a privilege. A lot of the world does not have this right and the taxes they pay to shoot for components and such do not make it as easy to introduce young family members or friends to the sport. I can understand why there may not be that many juniors shooting a major in another IPSC region.
  6. Always while one foot is off of the ground and with a sight picture, not just throwing two rounds in a certain cadence. Your whole body absorbs the impact with each step and you will pull your shots shooting with the step. Grab a cheap laser pointer and walk around your house like you are aiming your gun and you will see what I mean. There are ways to help minimize it while being almost vertical but it is best to bend your knees, lean forward a little more than when static, and then watch how much more controllable the laser is. You will also notice that the best time to shoot is after the leg in the air passes your supporting leg to right before actual contact with the ground. This is just my observation from training and spending more than a few sessions on just shooting on the move. Brian
  7. I am with Flex on that it is easy to get sloppy with. I only use steel to practice for steel challenge or transition drills. 12" plates are easy to get sloppy on, I recommend 6-8" and don't just keep them at 10yds. Move those puppies back to the 20 or further! Remember to trust your sight picture with steel and do not wait for the visual or audible. If you fall into that habbit you are costing yourself a lot of time, especially if there is a lot of steel or it is a SC Match. I also recommend GT Targets, another sponsor here! That is all I have used and Karl had them to me within 3 days. GT Targets GT Targets BEnos subforum Brian
  8. [quote name='Chuck Anderson' timestamp='1311623571' Bushing barrels get the nod for a lower reciprocating mass (at least that's was EGW said). Less weight moving back and forth translates to less flip. I never understood how people can say it is less reciprocating weight. The bushing itself has weight that is added to the slide! My opinion is that a bull barrel would have less reciprocating weight except for the "unique" slide which is heavier than a standard slide. I have shot both light and heavy and, to be honest, on the pressure of the clock I could not tell a difference. An informal shooting test always reveals something that I like about any configuration. Just pick one and do not second guess it. Springs and loads are also different ways to make a gun recoil like you want it to. Brian
  9. I disagree with feeling that there should automatically be any recognition as a whole, for youngest/oldest,etc. If there is any recognition given, I am not opposed, but I do not think that it should be expected. This is one of the problems I have with society today. When I played base ball I was in the last place team, I got a very small trophy, while the teams that placed had considerably larger trophies and the team that won overall had a ridiculus trophy. My friends and I worked hard through the winter and spring to earn one of those large trophies. Now it seems that all that participate get the same reward whether they worked for it or not. JMHO. Appreciate any recognition given but do not expect that there should be any unless you won the match! Brian

Shot another match this past Sunday but instead of Production I shot my HP Edge in Limited. I did get some dry firing done this past week to prepare for the transition from the G35 and I have also been following a work out regimen and already lost 7 pounds in a 10 days. I hope I can stay on the wagon this time and hopefully I did not jinx myself by writing it. After being in a heat wave for the past week I was not looking forward to this match but it was a benefit match for the Wounded Warrior Project. All winners were asked to donate there checks, I also asked that my win from last month be donated. The weather was hot and humid and after my first 2 stages I started to lose focus. I kept drinking lots of fluids but never did feel as good or alert as I was earlier in the day. I still tried to shoot my best and had some good results and some bad. I usually remember every stage I shoot, including details such as how many extra shots taken and on which targets, where the hits where called, reloads performed, etc. I can not really recall a single stage after the first 2 that I shot. I went through the motions and still ended up winning Limited but I did not deserve to, I guess everyone was affected by the humidity. I am glad that another check will go to a worthy cause. Even though it was hot and miserable, and I vented some frustration verbally at a palm pilot that wasn't working for me, I shot with a great group of shooters (some of the best) and had a good time doing it. One thing that did happen is I had a few quick jams that I would rack the next round in. The third time it happenned I noticed that the hammer was at half cock. I have since added a little more tension to the sear spring and also backed off of the overtravel a little. Hopefully I will not have any more issues with it. I did not lose more than 2 seconds on any stage because of it but I was glad that I saw what was going on and the retrieved round confirmed it. No vids are attached because my wife had the Flip Camera in her bag and I couldn't find it mixed with everything else. Brian
  11. Hey Micah! Congrats on being the team captain. I have a challenger in my 35 and could not be happier. I am sure you will be a great representative for Jeff and his products! Brian
  12. I have played with a delta that was mounted on the slide and another that was on a mount. I liked the delta point a lot and would consider it a viable alternative. I myself only have a cmore mounted but I would be open to a new sight if I ever go with another build. I would probably also like the aim point micro if it came with a 6 or 8 minute dot. Brian
  13. As was said before, break it down into sections and pay extra attention on the difficult one(s) and just memorize where the targets are. I never ever plan to be in any exact position. Every time I ever say that I have to be at a specific point for certain targets I will usually not be there and then struggle to recover and get in position. When I just know where the targets are I am a lot smoother and fly through the stage. Brian
  14. Just my opinion, but you can not go wrong with a 35. I would say it is the best all around gun in uspsa if you like the platform! Brian
  15. What does Ben know anyway? Even when I RO'd at a major steel match, the Pro's were in the 1.0-1.1 ballpark on 10-15 yard plates. Their runs were almost all the same though. I think target to target and stage breakdown are where you would see the most improvement. I know I use to focus a lot on the sub second draw but I would pay for it by having a bad grip half the time. A consistant good grip is much more important. Brian
  16. Nothing wrong with feeling a little burned out. Especially after 2 and a half years! Outside of getting ready for a major match, I would never take a local match seriously and just have fun, whether I did good or bad. Brian
  17. The only way that I can agree that you have a mag related issue is if the base of the ramp of your barrel is contacting the magazine essentially stopping the barrel from fully dropping down. Check the front of your magazines and see if there are any light indentations on the front face of the magazine(s). If there are just take a file, or have a gunsmith do it, and take away some material from the base of the ramp until there is not contact. Measure the mags front to back, they should be around 1.265 to 1.270 (I will have to go see my notes but I am sure the #s are correct). If they are too long just put them in a vise and put a little tension on them until they are in spec. Brian
  18. I think that has more to do with the whole shirt being dark so you would feel the heat evenly versus a light shirt with dark signs that the heat would be localized.
  19. Micah, congrats on the new job! Hopefully i will shoot with you again sometime at another major. Don't worry about the smokey load if it doesn't bother you. Brian
  20. They are still relatively new. Give it some time and they will be around. Why not just order a new one?
  21. Cha-Lee Have you tried amber lenses to help diffuse the shadows? They do seem to help a bit for me, especially indoors. I use to have a pair of sunglasses for golf that had a light brown lens. That lens made all the colors brighter while really diffusing shadows to where you could hardly notice them. I do not know if they were polarized but I was pissed when I lost them. Brian

Not a problem George. I was glad to shoot with you again, sorry that you didn't make any more money off of me though. With the foot work, when I am sure that I called the shot I yell at myself "MOVE!!!!" and that gets me going a little faster out of a position. I know I am not a real sprinter out there, especially compared to some of the younger guys, but I try to move as fast as I feel comfortable with while being in control of my motion at the same time. Shooting on the move is key to most of the stages on any close to medium distance course. I did not really review the vids yet to see where I made mistakes and what I did well. I look forward to shooting with you again. Brian

Shot another outdoor match. I made an adjustment on the trigger and am really pleased. I can tell that the splits are a little quicker and it is due to the shorter reset. I had a so-so match. I had some good stages where I stayed focused and I had some bad stages that I hurt myself with penalties on. I also had a stage that I received 2 no shoots that were not from me. I only engaged that target with 2 rounds, a NS was on the left and I shot it with a center A and a right side D. The RO wasn't sure if I shot it with only 2 and being that he had just scored me with a Mike/No Shoot that I did actually earn I did not have a leg to stand on. I know I did not shoot those 2 shots into the No Shoots and the video shows I only shot 2 shots at the target. Oh well. It wasn't the first time that I had to eat a score for someone forgetting to tape a target and I am sure it will not be the last. Practice has been nonexistant and dryfire almost the same due to time, life, and excuses (lack of focus knowing I am not shooting any majors so there really isn't a strong drive to work toward improving). Workouts have been hit or miss also due to time, injuries and whatever excuses I make to avoid a successfull attempt at 3-4 sessions a week. Instead it has been a mediocre 1-2 sessions with putting out good effort at the time. I start the week strong and enthused and then Wednesday or Thursday hits and I lose steam and start over again on Monday. Stages from match on 6/26/11 I did not get video of stage 6 due to that being the stage we started on and I was working the Palms scoring people till I had to shoot. Stages 7 and 1 I was happy with even though I did a mag change too early on 7 and then had to do another one. Stage 1 had a dissappearing target that was pretty fast and activated by a usp on the left side. stage 2 I lost focus and caught a M/NS going into hose mode on the first left side array and had a stand still reload in front of a star for 1 plate left. stage 3 I earned another M/NS plus the other 2 no shoots that weren't mine. Again a lack of focus on the stage. stage 4 I was conservative on but dropped a lot of points before the door getting a lot of Cs and 1 D. After that it was all As after the door but they were fairly close fast targets. Stage 5 I left right after I shot. I had to time the reload perfect for mutiple activating targets and the reload was good. Only target I was not sure on was the swinger. I am use to faster 165 grain major bullets and I do have trouble judging the shots on fast movers with the 180 minor load. My own fault. Either way I still had a great time and can not wait to go again. I just might go back to the Edge for the next month or 2. Sorry for anyone that fell asleep and just drooled on the keyboard reading all of this. Just do not send me the bill. Brian
