1. Sounds like it's a Mark IV 22/45. If so all you need to do is cut off the last 1/4 inch of the base pad. Then you can use them in both guns.
2. What a great idea. I've played with lasers and found the green to be much easier to pick up even on sunny days. If C-More were to come out with a green diode I would give it a try also. I too shoot a 12 MOA for SCSA. In the sunlight I need to have it fully turned up to be able to pick it up on target.
3. Someone is just trying to stir the pot here. Of course this sport is hard. Anything worth doing is hard until you put in all the practice and effort it takes to get out of the cellar. All of the top professionals I've met over my 40 years of shooting IPSC and USPSA as well as SCSA and ICORE have been very helpful and no one has turn away from questions that I posed. Perhaps it's your attitude that needs adjustment. Just saying. Now flame me.
4. After a dismal session at the State Championships last week where I was getting a lot of failure-to-fires with my Ruger/Volquartsen Black Mamba I decided to sell the offending ammo and go back to my basic fodder, CCI Blazer 40 grainers.I was getting 3 - 5 failures with Eley Action Plus. It's good ammo but just won't work in my gun. A shooter for Eley says it may be because my chamber is too tight for it. Rounds weren't going fully into battery and when hit with the firing pin it was just driving them forward. The second hit and the ammo would all go off. Not good when shooting Steel Challenge matches. Under the clock, mistakes like that really hurt one's times.Today I went back to Blazers and fired 200 rounds with no problems. I switched to CCI-SV, Norma and Federal HV and again every shot when bang on the first try. I guess it really was the ammo causing my problem.I'm now very happy and know my gun and ammo combination works.
5. I would invest in a Volquartsen Guide Rod Assembly. It comes with 3 springs and I'd try it with the spring that is installed and then use the heavy spring if the first one doesn't work. It's about $20 if I remember correctly. It helped my Mark pistols.
6. You can see from this picture that the older aluminum Railways came with thumb screws. The new ones do not but if you call C-More they do have some in stock.
7. I'm not an expert but I've seen the same thing and have told the shooter to go to the Safe Area to handle their weapon. I can't quote a rule though but I believe it would be considered unsafe gun handling.
8. Thanks to Shooter's Connection for their sponsorship of the Atibal Arizona State Steel Challenge Championships as well as all the other sponsors. I was lucky enough to take this from the prize table after the match. I was looking at it for the past 4 days and figured I liked it enough that I was going to buy one. It was on the table for the RO and Staff and I was the lucky person to take it home

10. Friday was another of our hot days of over 100 degrees and was too much for a few of the shooters. We've had 145 days over 100 this year. You really need to drink a lot of water to get through these hot days. The match was fun but got underway 4 hours late do to a problem with range management. Everything was set up the same way we've been doing it for 17 years but a new Range Master decided it wasn't safe to shoot into the side berms and made us reset all targets another 50 yards down range. The staff did a great job and got us up and running as fast as possible. I shoot from my wheelchair. With the new distances it was much harder to get around but Phil Geigo (spelling is probably wrong) put my wheelchair in his trailer and drove me from stage to stage. Without that I would not have been able to compete. I shot my best score in 4 years, since being in the chair. I cut 19 seconds off of my average. Would have been an even better score but I realized the RO did not give my my 12 seconds in penalties for not moving on Outer Limits. Next day I told the score guy to add my penalties. I earned them so I needed to fess up and except them. The match ends tomorrow with 2 more waves of shooters. A lot signed up for 7 a.m. and some will start at noon. We have to except personal distancing at the range and wear masks to the the Covid-19 rules. Funny, at the main range, once you are at the shooting area you don't need masks. I did get to try out my new holster. I don't like bagging between stages.
11. Thanks. I copied Ernie's design and sent him a pic. Told him he was my inspiration.

13. I use to use Bullseye for Steel Challenge matches with 3.5 grains and a 230 LRN bullet. Nice and light but you could really tell when you hit the targets. For Major loads I would switch to 5 grains with the same 230 grainers. On a few stages I could shoot at the stop plate before my 4th shot hit the target. Very light recoil. The 230 is the way to go with the .45 because it loads so fast.
14. Very nice videos. Thanks for sharing. Looks like they had some very good stages. Good luck tomorrow for the follow-up match.
15. I have 4 C-Mores on my guns and although I like the polymer there really isn't that much difference between it and the aluminum model Railway. You can buy extra modules so you can go from 3 MOA to 16 MOA shooting for accuracy or steel shooting. Here is a group with a 12 MOA dot at 25 yards so you really don't need a smaller one.
16. Good advice so far, you can't go wrong. I agree with using the TK .35 moons. I could never load my Winchester brass in .40s. RevolverSupply.com has what you need in regards to moon clip holders. I like the Moon Mountain 3 post. You can put 3 moons on each post and they are easy to get to and fast. Apex hammer is great. You can probably just drop it in and it will work. If it needs to be fit a gunsmith shouldn't kill you in pricing. Mine just fell in. With Wolf springs and an 11 pound rebound spring my trigger was under 5 pounds. You need Federal primers for reliable ignition. If you want good iron sights the LPC is real good. I may have the initials wrong, it's been a long time for me. I do know that the sight is very nice, easy to see and easy to adjust. For Optics you can't go wrong with a C-More. Vortex Venoms and nice as well and both are in the same price range.
17. It's a copy of one of Ernie's designs. I made it.
18. I normally wear my holster on my belt when using my wheelchair. At last month's match a number of guys asked me why I didn't make a wheelchair mount. I had no idea of how I would do it but started to think about it. This week I thought outside the box and came up with an idea of how to mount the holster on the side of the wheelchair in the armrest station. I took an old holster and modified it with some hardware from Ace Hardware. I couldn't find a piece of pipe or PVC to fit the armrest mount but was able to get a piece of doweling that fit just right. With a few rubber clamps, a piece of re-inforced leather and some T-Nuts I came up with this idea. I made a new holster for the gun and it fits real well. The gun is very secure and will not fall out so far in testing but it's easy to draw from. Rimfire Pistols do not draw for the start. You can bag between stages but I like having my gun in a holster. It's easier for me to not carry a real heavy bag around my neck when moving.
19. Auto Indexing is your friend. I feel you pain, hopefully your gun's manufacturer was able to fix or give you a discount on a replacement pistol. I blew up my 929 loading on a 550. I think the 550 is a great press and I've loaded many thousands of rounds with no problems but one was enough. I sold the press to a friend, warned him that he needed to reload in a room all by himself with no distractions and to take his time. I also had a mirror attached so that I could see the amount of powder in the case. I was distracted. I went out and bought a 650 with case and bullet feeder. My reloading was carefree until I had to give up reloading. Unfortunately, my friend blew up his gun shortly after setting up the press. You guessed it, he was watching t.v. and not paying attention to what he was doing. I told him to do what I did and send the gun back to the factory so that they could either fix or replace it at a good price. He still refuses to follow my suggestion. When mine was back at S&W I called to see who was working on it, what was wrong, was it my fault and what could be done to get my 929 back. Smith offered to sell me a new one at a very good reduced price, so I bought it and was totally satisfied.
20. I was having a few problems with my Black Mamba last month, especially during the Steel Challenge Match. It was jamming a lot and I couldn't figure out why. Oiling it helped a little but didn't solve the problem. I cleaned it and found some gunk under the guide rod assembly. I thought that was it since the bolt would not close all the way into battery. It helped a bit but there were still jams. I finally called Volquartsen and they told me to send it in. The problem was that the assembly was bent, causing it to delay the bolt from being able to go all the way forward. I shot a Steel Challenge Match today with a club I haven't shot with in many years, The Deer Tribe, here in Phoenix. It was a small shoot but was a lot of fun. Most of the same people I normally shoot with and our squad only had 4 people with 6 guns. Things moved quickly and we were out of the range by noon. The gun ran flawlessly except for an ammo problem. I switched to Eley Action Plus because it was all I could find. It wasn't a really bad price so I took a chance. In practice last week I had 2 FTFs in about 200 rounds. Today I had 3 so I'm skeptical about using it for the State Championship later this week. I still have a supply of Blazers which always work. I may just shoot them instead.
21. I started with the Dillon 300 and worked my up to 450, 550 and then a 650 with all the upgrades including a case and bullet feeder. I've been very happy with Dillons for many years. The 500 was best suited for Black Powder but for the life of my I can't remember why. I'm going to have to find an old catalogue. I keep their catalogues for the same reason I keep old playboys. Oh yeah, the articles.
22. If you are not going to compete in USPSA and just want a revolver that is a lot of fun to shoot I too recommend the 617 10 shot .22. You don't have to worry about reloading and if you can find them .22s are a lot cheaper than the alternatives. You can still do all the upgrades to a 617 but it truly does not need anything to be a great shooter right out of the box. Mine has been highly modified but I like shooting it in Steel Challenge Matches. You can get DS-10 speed loaders and loading blocks for it if you want, making going to the range a pleasure instead of having to load 1o rounds individually into the cylinder.
23. I use 2.9 grains of N320 as well. It is very accurate out of my 929 and very consistent. I like 160s at 1.9 OAL. I use a Lee U die and just relieve the bell, no crimp. I'm using .358 bullets, mostly from ACME. I like their variety of colors and load different charges with different colors so I can tell them apart.
24. I've had real good luck with CCI Blazer. It actually groups better than anything else I've tested. I like the faster bullet for reasons mentioned above. It does make the comp work better and there is very little muzzle rise. Just recently I picked up some Eley Action Plus. Faster and louder by a big deal. It shouts great out of my Mamba. If you can find it it's about $32 for 500 rounds. I bought Blazers last time for $19 a brick and stocked up.
