  1. I too like ACME Bullets. I love their variety of colors. I've never had coated bullets lead up my compensator. I haven't even had to run a brush through my barrel, they stay so clean. Blue Bullets also makes a fine product.
  2. I think I got this from Brownells. Nice and heavy brass chisel that has lasted me a long time.
  3. A brass chisel and hammer gets out the stubborn lead buildup in my compensator. I also use Peroxide/Ammonia solutions to soften the lead up. I find that I need to clean my compensator about every 500 - 1000 rounds.
  4. I think that letting a shooter shoot back to back gives them an unfair advantage. They get a practice run and then get to do it for real with their other gun.
  5. We can only shoot separately. I like it better. A lot of guys in the club shoot two guns and it slows thing down when they have to set-up their second gun while on the line. It's been better at our club to have then clear and leave the line, help with the board or timer and clean up brass before shooting again. No one has complained about this approach. The club use to make a shooter shoot the entire match and then go back and start again with their second gun. I'm glad they changed.
  6. CR-Speed belt. Nice and heavy and will not bend under the weight of the gun or ammo pouches.
  7. Charlie Priest, the guy that produced the 8 shot revolvers on Smith 28s did a roller bearing on my gun. WOW what a difference it made. Extremely smooth action. I wish I would have kept it but in my youth, when I bought a new gun I sold my old ones. Sorry I spelled Charlie's name wrong. Thanks YRRacer for correcting me.
  8. Get in touch with ApexTactical.com and order their competiton hammer and extended firing pin. It will make a vast improvement. You should be able to get the trigger pull down to around 6.5 pounds or lower.
  9. Every gunsmith I used has taken it out. Since I shot IDPA for a little while I knew at that time that it was required. I felt no difference in the trigger. I did polish the hammer block along with all the other internals. BYW my actions were under 5 pounds.
  10. I started with a 3 MOA C-More Railway but soon changed it to a 6. Now that all I shoot is Steel Challenge I'm using a 12 MOA dot. I'm shooting better with the 12 except when I want to test groups.
  11. I use the stock mainspring and an 11 lb rebound spring. I loosen the mainspring so that I get complete reset of the trigger with such a light setup... I then Loctite the set screw in place so it doesn't come loose. If you want to do your own trigger without spending a lot of money get Jerry Miculek's Accuriing Trigger video. I learned a lot from it. Get a hard Arkansas Stone from Brownell's and then spend a few hours on the interior of you gun...Take your time and NO DREMEL.
  12. The RO's I'm familiar with all run the same cadence from shooter to shooter. Each has their own way to do it but are consistent for all the competitors as it should be. Like ZZT I hate the Fast beep. It's supposed to come between 1 and 4 seconds. One second is not too fast but right after Are You Ready with no delay is a bit too fast. Still, I am normally the first shooter in my squad. I guess the other members want to take care of me. If the RO is fast on the beep I normally let it slide for the first run and then explain the 1 - 4 second rule. It's no big thing at local matches but I can see what the problem would be at major matches. Things should be the same ( within the rules) for each shooter.
  13. Partition the Board to test the ammo. They may says it's a GO. It appears that the Power Factor is only 104 so it may not pass the test.
  14. How can the gun be pointed straight down and not meet the 180. If the sights are Pointe up range you are not breaking the rule but if the gun is at 180 in any direction you now broke the 180 rule. I've never seen anyone get called for this. Normally it's side to side pointing to the 180 that will get you DQ'd. But I could be wrong.
  15. I'm finding that what works best for me is Federal BYOB 36 grain bullets and their 38 grain work well also. I shoot a lot of Blazer as well. It works best in my Ruger Mark IVs so I try it in all my guns.
  16. No, it's not that one. That's what I had. I went to Apex and asked Randy if he could look at my 617 because I thought I could get a better action thanwhat I had. I had the older Mass Hammer. Randy put the new one in for me and asked me to try it out. It works real well. I now have Single Action for when I want to test for groups, and Double action for my Steel Challenge Matches.
  17. John Hansbury was a great guy. I miss him. He had a lot of knowledge and shared it. I haven't seen Terry in years. He doesn't go to the Steel Challenge Match. They are a lot of fun these days. They really fill up fast and you now have to preregister on the computer through Practiscore.
  18. I turn mine on at Make Ready command and turn it off after I put in my holster.
  19. Sorry I can't. I will be at the next Cactus Match Steel Challenge, the third Sunday at Ben Avery. I'll be shooting my 617. It has the new Apex Mass Drive Hammer which allows for single or double action shooting. They just announced them at the Shot Show.
  20. If you want a decent trigger pull on your 617 order the new Mass Hammer from Apex Tactical. Randy Lee says its a drop in that will give you a 6.5 pound trigger. Randy knows what he talks about.
  21. For years I shot .38s with a light charge of Bullseye, 4.0 grains and a 158 gr LRN. It's not the lightest charge but I could also use it for USPSA matches and had no problem making power factor. Before that I used my 625 with 3 grains of Bullseye and a 230 grain LRN. Wow was that a light load. Reloaded super fast but hardly ever needed a reload. My fastest Steel Challenge times were with the 625. It was accurate and I hardly ever missed a shot. With 8 shots in the gun, if you are paying attention to your sights, you should never have to reload. The length of the case should not matter. I found that shooting a light bullet, even though it should be les recoil, the felt recoil was better with the heavy bullets. Only exception was 148 grain wadcutter loads. Those are real light and accurate. Again, you don't count on having to reload but if you practice even the full wadcutter isn't bad. Just my thoughts. Your millage may be different.
  22. Uses 9mm load data and you will be spot on. I like using 160 grain bullets but you may not find data for them 14 7 and 135s will give you no problems.
  23. They announced the new hammers this week at Shot Show. I don't know if they are available yet.
