  1. I've loaded thousands of rounds with Federal Match primers with no problems. For revolvers with light triggers Federal is THE primer to use.
  2. 100 grains would work nice in 9 mm. According to the Lyman Pistol & Revolver Reloading Handbook you can start with 4.0 grains of Bullseye for 976 fps u to 5.0 and 1263. Unique would be 4.5 grains 931 pfs to 5.6 grains for 1256.
  3. If you want a lot of flame go with Blue Dot, it's impressive. 2400 will give you great velocity but don't forget Unique. Unique has been the most accurate powder I've loaded with in .38 Special with heavy bullets.
  4. I found the Dillon lube to be too thick for my liking. I use Hornady One Shot and do not wipe the lube off after loading. I've never had a jam do to using lube. I always tumble my brass in corn cob media. When it's done tumbling I put all of it into a plastic bag and give a generous spray of One Shot than shack the bag. I tumble about 200 cases at a time. The cases come out nice, clean and shiny: ready for reloading.
  5. Yes. Thanks for asking. The gun was new, only had 20 rounds though it, I double charged it because I wasn't paying attention on my Dillon 550. I replaced the press with a 650 to get the automatic shell plate rotation and haven't had any problems since. I sold the 550 to a friend and he blew up his Ruger. He now looks inside every case to make sure the powder is correct. I also told him to use Trail Boss because it fills the case. You can't overcharge because you will see powder pouring from the case.
  6. I had to replace my cylinder because of an over charged case that blew it up. I sent it back to Smith & Wesson so that they could check out the gun and see if it was worth repair. IT took about 3 months but I got it back. I no longer load on a press that isn't self rotating. Good luck in your search.
  7. I've been having a little problem with my Black Mamba so I shot the local Steel Challenge Match with my back-up gun, a Mark IV 22/45. The 22/45 has the Volquartsen Accurizing Kit, Bolt, Tandemkross Victory Trigger and Carolina Crusher Compensator and C-More Railway Red Dot Sight. I only had one jam today, a vast improvement over the last few months. I shot much better, making my hits count and my speed was there too. One major problem, the dot was not bright all day and I thought it was just a 3 minute instead of my 12 MOA on the Mamba. I finally changed the battery with 2 stages to go and what a difference it made. Total confidence in my shooting. I have a battery tester and check my battery before each match but I was in a rush yesterday and forwent this practice. I will still use the Mamba for my match gun but it's nice to know that I have an alternative for RFPO. I have a 5.5 inch Bull Barrel to use on the frame when I want to shoot RFPI.
  8. I too shoot my 617 for Steel Challenge. I miss the years when we could shoot Rimfire Revolver Open and Limited but now I shoot against the autos and I'm hving a good time. Hopefully I'll never have to reload under the clock but if I do at least I know I have the best loaders out there, the DS-10s. Just a little slower than loading with moon clips on my 929.
  9. Why shoot the Ruger and have to find accessories that don't exist yet, like an extended cylinder release and decent springs? I love the 929. Easy to find add-ons and the trigger on the Smith can be brought down to around 4 pounds after using an Apex firing pin. Not much different but 6.5 is the lightest I've heard of getting the Ruger. YMMV.
  10. 1.20 OAL with 160s and3 grains of VV 320. I use Winchester Brass. Starline would stick in my cylinders.
  11. Robbie Leatham, I know he goes by Rob these days but I've known him since he was 17 and I'm too old now to change. He has impressed me with his talent and tenacity from the beginning. Even at his age he is still the best out there. Congratulations to a great champion.
  12. The stand is from HPTACTICAL.COM
  13. Glad you had fun. 115 is not an easy thing to handle but if you bring lots of water and a good hat it's manageable. I skipped this months Steel Challenge Match because of the heat, but I'll be there is September. Come on out and have some more fun with the great people at Cactus.
  14. I put the Voquartsen Accurizing Kit in my Mark IV 22/45 Lite and then added the Tandemkross Flat Face Trigger. I like the feel of the TK trigger. I had put the stock trigger spring back in to get the pull to 2.7 pounds but after shooting for a while I decided to put the VQ spring back in and got down to 1.5 pounds. I've shot over 50K with it and really love it. I shoot it for Steel Challenge Matches.
  15. I use Dillon dies and Winchester Brass with .358 coated bullets.
  16. Steven Bressan. Yeah we probably know each other. I was at the firs12 then had to take a few years off and started up again for a number of years. That first one was a blast. Alpine Grove was where my wife grew up so she knew the location. I also like the ones in Colorado. Always had a good time. I even came in 10th at the first 2 matches. I went thinking no one could beat me but to my surprise...LOL.
  17. I use a taper crimp, actually just relieving the bell. I also use .358 bullets in my 929 and have never had a problem with setback or bullets pushing forward.
  18. I like making holsters as much as I like shooting. This is today's effort. Lined with 5 ounce Veg Tan Leather, Dyed Tan from Tandy Leather and Hand Stitched using yellow thread. It takes about a week to get the final finish on these holsters. I've had a few request for them from local shooters.
  19. I've had very good luck with CCI Blazers and my Mark IV 22/45 and Mamba. Last month I tried CCI - SV at our Steel Challenge Match and had so many FTE that it wasn't fun. I bought some Eley Action Plus and it's been working real well. I think this will become my new match ammo. I also have some Eley Force, again no problems with FTF or FTE.
  20. No, there is no division for rimfire revolver, optic or iron. I shoot mine in RFPO and actually have better results than my auto. Never had a jam with the revolver.
  21. https://i.imgur.com/MX3lxfCl.jpg[/img] Finding .22 ammo has been a real challenge lately. I normally shoot Blazer because they group better in my guns than a lot of the expensive ammo and are cheap. Non are available on line form any of my sources. On another forum someone suggested Eley Action. There is standard velocity and Plus. I chose to test the Plus out of my Volquartsen Mamba. It's 42 grains and is hotter than Blazers. I ran 200 rounds through my gun this week and I like it. I'm not a good shooter from the bench but I did manage this group from 25 yards off a sandbag. The flyers are my fault. It's not easy to shoot tight groups with a 12 MOA dot. The Action Plus shoots better in my gun then Force and is less expensive at $32.50 for 500 rounds. I was fortunate enough to buy a case after testing it and seeing how well I like it. I will regulate this for Steel Challenge Matches. I didn't buy more because I already have about 60K rounds of Blazer plus a variety of other good .22 ammo for plinking.
  22. I've had good luck with a Dremel and cut-off wheel. I've also just put the screw up against my grinder to get it to the right size. Better method is to buy a shorter screw from Brownell's.com. I understand Ace Hardware now has gunsmithing screws so that will help as well.
  23. E-Bay has take off New Rear Sights for the Mark Series coming off of the New Mark IVs. They run about $40. I just ordered one. I like the sight picture better than the original Ruger Rear Sight. I have a Williams Fire Sight for the front.
  24. Well I finally got my 617 back from out local gunsmith and I'm happy with the results. I tried to replace the hand myself and ran into all kinds of problems...I was using a centerfire hand on my rimfire. I also had a bent crane and don't have the tools to fix this. I'm too old to be buying more tools so I let the gunsmith do it as well. When I picked the gun up I was told that he did not function fire it and I had two weeks to test it. If it didn't work he would be glad to fix it. Today I fired 150 rounds for Federal BYOB bullets. I had one failure to fire when the trigger pull was set to 6.5 lbs. Once I upped it to 7.2 pounds I had no more FTFs and groups were outstanding shooting off hand at 15 yards. I kept everything inside of 4 inches. Nelson Ford is The Gunsmith, Phoenix, Az..He's been doing work for me for over 40 years and is a great Smith & Wesson smith. He only works on S&Ws and Colt autos and is very good at what he does.
