  1. Just read in another forum that they are no longer called No Shoots, they are now called "MEDIC"!! After Mike I shoot "Medic" most frequently. Luckily I shoot IPSC where only the first two shots count. A friend of mine had the ultimate- Virginia count: he sees that "Medic" got one and in the heat of the moment he fills inn- and gets another "Medic". The "penalty" colum was kinda busy that day.
  2. I have no hair left, I pulled them all trying to make my .45 feed SWC. Since I started with 230 RN she runs and runs. Only stoppages I had since then was when I made my rounds to short. I dont think the disciple John Moses Browning had SWC`s in mind when he made designed the perfect pistol.
  3. What is that white stuff on the ground? It almost looks like cotton, but why wold someone throw cotton on the ground. LOL Never seen snow in real life from closeup- only on the peaks of mountains far away.( I was in South Africa but the snow was in Lesotho)
  4. I brought my lead levels down by not going to the indoor range anymore.(Worked there as instructor) I know about the hat in the dishwasher thing and if it was not for my wife going armed I would have used her dishwasher to clean my caps. As it stands now I wash them by hand. I have only during major competitions shot anything but lead. With the price of bullets I would probably continue to do so.
  5. And when a person gets nailed because he molested a child his excuse is that his daddy treated him badly or that he belongs to s certain race or does not belong to a certain race. Anything as long as he can blame something else. It is a pity that shooters are getting on that bandwagon too. We should really know better than that because of what we are and what we do. We are simply above that kind of thing
  6. Been using my FCD for a while and never had a problem like that. I would take the whole thing apart(Press and all the dies) and minutely examine it.
  7. Think about the State of affairs in South Africa. My bond rate has now gone up to 13%. My bond repayments started at R2200 and now stands at R5700. I wish my salary has gone up like that.
  8. In IPSC you cannot install the extended mag release. Is it legal in USPSA? If it is I would have Sig have a look at the gun as the extended mag release should (could not) impact on the de-cocker. That is now if you did not mean slide release and not mag release off course. I do not like to lower a hammer on a loaded chamber because, as sure as the Lord made little green apples, sooner or later the hammer will get away from you and you will hit the showers early. Off the range you will sooner or later put a hole in something that does not need another hole.
  9. For me it was during a lowly Level 1 just before Nationals. The South African Champ shoots with us. The one stage I go first, 4 targets and every target half covered by a no-shoot, course shot at 30 meters. I just go slow and take the Alphas and do the course in about 8 seconds. General feeling is- nice score but look at the time, much to slow. The shoot ends with me taking the stage and beating Alex for the first and only time. It felt so good my head was in the clouds for weeks after that. Started going fast(hell I can win!) and hitting Mikes all the time. Now, after a wasted year, is taking the Alphas again and the score is reflecting that smooth is fast and that hurried is slow. 15 and 16 March we are shooting Nationals at the club and I am planning to shoot a full score, every stage. Not a winning game plan but a sure game plan.
  10. Sometimes I think dry-firing is a misnomer. The way I do it the hammer only falls at the first shot. After that I only work the trigger as if I am really shooting. Actually very little wear and tear on the gun. I dry-fire as much as I can but know that it is very easy to practice junk so you need to make sure that your sight picture is perfect every time before you work the trigger. You need to watch your sights to make sure they do not dip(jerking the trigger) Never dry-fire just to get it done, practice something specific every time. I started off using paintings and light fittings as targets but now made myself small metric targets(that's what we shoot) and I am really trying to "take two Alphas" on every target before transitioning to the next target. As my home has wooden floors I have to be careful where my mags fall so I set that up carefully as well. A well place cushion will normally do the job for me. This works for me, use the search function and see what other, world class shooters that frequent thins forum, does.
  11. The point I have been making to my students all the time. Thank you!! They just need to get trigger time, hell if it is only a Level 1 once a month it meens that they got 150 rounds in that month! Will they run and reload during a situation, of course not, they will just be able to reload smoothly because they have practiced a bit. As you preached, brother, they need to leave their pride at home and come and shoot- even if a bunch of civvies kick their butt. As also implied- for some it is just a job, when they come off duty they leave it at work. They will drive by a shootout and just rubberneck it because their heart is not in the job. To them being a LEO is about the salary and maybe a bird ot two that falls for the uniform. The REAL cop never goes off duty, he will be there 24/7/365! This is the guy we need to get to do practical. This is the guy that will help you just because you need it and not because it is his job. Sadly this guy will probably stay below commission rank as he is in it for the calling and not the bucks. Sorry as you can see it lies close to the heart of this retired cop. Maybe not in uniform anymore but, much to the annoyance of my family, sometimes still on the job.
  12. I dry-fire every day until I am so hot and sweaty that I cannot continue. With the temperatures we are experiencing at the moment that does not take so long. Maybe in our winter it will be more bearable and maybe I will practice for longer than 30 minutes at a time.
  13. Welcome!! You are in one of the best places on the net to improve your shooting. You might consider doing some serious dry-firing to improve you skills. Never forget the search button, you can get hours upon hours of reading done like that. Most of the stuff is more than just good. I started shooting firstly to improve my skills and secondly to enjoy myself. Now it is pure enjoyment and that is why I shoot so many competitions(more than 40 planned for this year). I also use this to get over the worst of the "brain fade at the beep" that many(me included) seem to suffer from.
  14. We have two LEO`s shooting with us. The one is a Gold class shooter and really kicks butt. The other is what you guys would call a "mall ninja". He constantly comes last and refuses to take advice. Pity, the people giving advice are some of the finest in the country.
  15. Here in South Africa we are going to whole hog. First lightening the slide a lot and then putting a big assed full lenght dust cover.(We`re yalking about 500 g in solid steel) This makes even the 45`s run in at +/-90%
  16. What is that white stuff on the ground. If its salt your "Boney" will rust man!.
  17. INHO The barrel to slide fit is absolutely critical. If you plan on the gun lasting a long time I would strongly advise you to take it to a good smith. Shooting the gun like it is now will bugger the lugs and ruin the barrel and possibly the slide. You will have pressure and accuracy problems. Please take my advise, save yourself the money of a blown gun and let a smith do the fitting.
  18. It was never my intention to bash Glocks. I apologize if my comments was construed as such. I did mention that I get my butt kicked on a regular basis by Glock shooters. Again sorry if I offended.
  19. I never load anything but lead for my 45 and 9mm Luger. I have never seen any leading in my 45 but since I am shooting a 232gr bullet @ 750 fps that is not strange. With the 9mm I use a 127gr bullets at about 1100 fps and see very little leading there. If I do a normal bronze brush/Hoppes no9 clean after the match/practice no other steps are needed. Welcome to my world were we use lead bullets- not because we like it but because we cannot afford the alternatives.
  20. Used to work as a Firearm instructor. We had an indoor range so I pent many hours on the range inhaling lead. In the 4 months since I left my mood has changed considerably. This could be that I have less lead in my system or that I am not so cranky from working with smart-ass newbie shooters anymore. Any case I am now a much friendlier person. And you better believe that or else!
  21. You have 5 options: 1.Push the primer in fully(on a loaded cartridge)- Totally crazy- only do this if you want to be prematurely removed from the gene pool! 2. Go to the range and shoot these cartridges out during some quiet time- preferably use a gun you don't want anymore(no cannot borrow mine for this, so don't even ask) 3. Pull the bullet and re-use all the components except the propellant. 4. Throw the whole cartridge away- now if I was a LEO in your area and found out you were throwing whole cartridges away I would be visiting you you with a piece of paper called "ARREST WARRANT" and you will be the object of the warrant.(This way you get to meet new people, make new friends and most probably be called so huge guys "Bitch") Most heterosexuals do not like this. 5. You can keep the cartridges indefinably- your wife wont like this and they will be gnawing one continence every time you need the space. My ZAR 2 cents worth. (In South Africa the 2 cent was worth so little they stopped making them. Now if you want to have worthless try the Zimbabwean $, the last rate of exchange there was about 50 000 Zim $ to one US $- makes for nice affordable but seriously crappy holidays
  22. While LEO became actively involved in pro-active spouse abuse issues. I was member of a group that did "role playing" to teach people about spouse abuse. One such "session" was attended by my wife. As I was playing the abuser it took her completely by surprise. It was a long and quiet trip home in the car that night. As we got home she just remarked- you better leave that character you were portraying at work because at home he will get shot the first night. My wife is about a foot and 40 kg`s lighter than me but she has a a fridge magnet that goes "I have PMS and a gun- any questions?" My best advice after 20 years as a LEO- keep away from this as far as you can. Most of these people does not want to get helped so you cannot help them. I know that it sounds like a very "un-christian" thing to say but that is my experience.
  23. I shoot .45 and my daughter 9mmP(Luger). If it makes it through the FCD in 45 it goes to the match. 9mm needs to get sorted because our military brass is Berdan primed and the military and police are just to plain lazy to pick up their brass. Still use a Lee de-capper/sizer die adjusted so that the pin gets pushed up and not snap. At the distances we shoot it is not necessary to sort except in high pressure stuff were internal differences will push pressure to unsafe levels.
  24. Agricultural=Looks like something used in farming. My count for this week is 3 Glock KB`s so far- Just the ones reported on BE forum. All gets blamed on double charges because it sounded load. The should try standing in front of a gun being fired if they want to hear load.
  25. Look at where the cases are falling, the barely cycle the gun. Need to speak to him about where he shops, like the shirt.
