Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Does Dawson Precision still carry +2 Basepads? I have searched their website top to bottm for them and can only find +1. I know they used to carry them but cannot find them. Does anyone know of is anyone know whre I might be able to get some for an STI? Thanks, j0hn
  2. If you can afford it my number one recommendation would be an Trijicon ACOG. Absolutely fantastic optic with a bullet drop off indicator, fiber optic luminated rectial, and a crystal clear lens. As others have state iron sights will get the job done quite nicely.
  3. Whats a good rig for an STI pistol? Magazine holders? I am pretty sure I want to use a ghost holster. The gun is a Dawson Super tuned Edge. As much as I have and intend to spend on this gun it hurts to say that price isn't too big a factor when it comes to my rig. Thanks, j0hn
  4. First time I won a stage. It was about a year ago when I was 16 and I beat all of my elderly shooting buddies all of which who are very good and the rest of the group at a steel match. You shot the stage three times and they discard one of the times. I shaved off a second each runs and did one smoldering run.
  5. I am looking into getting my first custom limited race pistol. I really like the STI Edge platform and have limited myself down to the Dawson Supertuned Edge and Brazos High Performance Edge. http://www.dawsonprecision.com/ProductDeta...0001-1155331048 http://www.brazoscustom.com/sti_guns/edge_plus.htm The guns seem similar to me and both look very decent. I like the Dawson Ice Magwell. I seem to like the finish of the Brazos better. Other than that I think they are pretty much the same. The fiber optics on them seem similar although I have not had any experience with either of them. If you had to choose between these two which would you get?
  6. I'm just wondering if dry firing your competition gun is ok. I am about to order a Brazos High Performance Edge and wondering if I should dare to even dry fire it once it gets here. Is it a bad thing to do? Does it hurt the gun? Make it less accurate? Less Reliable? Does it do nothing at all and is ok to do? I have been dry firing one of my 1911's for ever and never had a single hiccup out of it and its accuracy remained true. I eventually got a Pachmayr bullet that you chamber and dry fire with. Would you recommend I do this with a Limited competition pistol? If not would it be ok to do it with one of those Pachmayr things? Thanks, j0hn
  7. I seem to like the overall finish of the Brazos but in the description it says chrome plated. Is this the same thing as Hard Chromed? If its not what advantages and disadvantages does it have against hard chromed and what is better? I like all the Features on Dawson's Super tuned Edge. I like the sights and the magwell especially. It also specifically states that it is hard chromed.
  8. I know you said you've made the decision to order the Executive, but have you ever shot or handled one? It's an Edge with a different finish, grip color and lettering on the slide. The list price on the Executive is $2464. The price of an Edge is $1874. Other than cosmetics, they are identical. For the $600 difference you can buy an Edge, get them to swap out a grey grip on it (for the difference in price between the two), get it hard chromed or Ion Bonded, have a reliability package and trigger job done on it and probably have enough left over for a magazine or two....that's going to be a "better" gun than a stock Executive since it'll run and have a decent trigger on it. A stock Executive is very likely going to need work to get it to run 100%, which will add to the price. For the same money you could also buy any number of custom guns that will run more reliably, shoot more accurately and simply be better in every way...and most of them are pretty darned sweet to look at too! Ok if I decide to do that who should I get it from? I hear alot about Brazos and Dawson. Which is better and which would you get if you were going to get one? Link to the Brazos High Performance Edge: http://www.brazoscustom.com/Home.htm Link to Dawson's Super tuned Edge: http://www.dawsonprecision.com/ProductDeta...0001-1155331048 I personally do like the asthetics of the gray grip but I'd rather it be functional that pretty... Thanks for the reply and information, j0hn
  9. Thanks for replying. I haven't quite got all of my money saved up yet but as soon as I do I will definitely call and check Dawson and Brazos out. I was just curious about the time because when I said I was a young shooter I meant it. My income is limited because I only work during the summer and I still live at home and I think I will be placing my order a couple months in and was wondering if I would see it before my senior year begins. Once again thanks for the replies and information. Thanks, j0hn
  10. I finally decided on placing an order for a STI Executive. I am not sure whether I am going to order it from STI or Brazos. I am leaning towards the latter and just curious how long it would take to receive one after place your order and paying. I have placed it yet so I haven't received an estimated time yet but whats the usual wait? Also I am semi-new to the sport and am young. I have been shooting USPSA and Steel matches for about a year. I am very interested and addicted to this sport and alot of older guys have really helped me out. Any suggestions for add-ons or parts would be much appreciated. Thanks, j0hn
  11. I would love to have that gun for the price. I would get it if not for competing just pleasure shooting.
  12. Hi, this is my first post and I am wondering about getting an STI Executive in .40 for Limited Class USPSA. I would like to hear your opinions on the gun and some of the pros/cons. I am also curious where I might find some used ones listed. Thanks, j0hn
