  1. What I got out of the whole thing was: You get to the end of a stage, you notice a Dog in one of the targets and then notice you have a jam do you take the pain of the Dog or the pain of the time? For the rest I take the Alphas as fast as I can and mike gets to look after himself.
  2. One of our shooters her in Port Elizabeth, South Africa has a mag that also goes to 30 something in .38 stupid. I think it has to do with the spring coils fitting flush when compressed and the follower made out of a piece of very thin metal. I also have a .45 mag that takes 17 rounds(with a great amount of effort). The mag gets checked every time I shoot in another Province of a level 3. Several of the top guys also have 20 round mags in 40. The 38 stupid is in Open and my .45 and the 40`s in Standard gun.
  3. From your post I deduce that you are a LEO. If that is true try and shoot your issue firearm as much as possible. The last thing you need is to land up in a situation where someone is shooting at you and you are used to another, similar but not identical gun. IE your 20 shoots 4 inches low at 10 yards but your 34(that you shoot all the time) 2 inches high. Your mind is a powerful tool but it van be fooled. You just might end aiming lower to compensate for a sight bias with the wrong gun. If the sights are not identical the situation is even worse. In competition it is a niggle but in "real life" that "mike" just be the last chance you had. I carry and shoot the same gun, a Para .45. Its as hot as hell here in South Africa just now but I still go to the effort to conceal a large heavy gun because when the paw-paw hits the fan I need to have a familiar tool in my hand. (It is so hot here that when we phone the hell from here it is charged as a local call)
  4. I shoot a hi-cap .45. Why? Because I can. A 1000 232gr bullets weighs 15 kg. (33lb). I get a kick out of feeling my shooting bag get lighter as the match goes on. The only difference between me and a single stack shooter is that I occasionally pick up more brass than magazines and they don`t. PS The guys at the club stopped hiding targets behind drums as a .45 will shoot through a drum(especially if you factor 198).
  5. IE- no way man, it`s rotten with spy-ware and dog slow. Have been running Firefox for years and Thunderbird as e-mail program. Does my home page get hi-jacked- no never. Do I still get e-mails about medicine for making my "winki" larger, hell no. (The only reason I know about it is that all my friends using MS stuff is complaining.) I have been testing "Gran Paradiso", the new Firefox for about a year now. Had one site crash on me, so I tested it with IE 7 and the site did not even open fully. Mozilla is the way to go for for me. Fast, reliable and dependable, seriously the way to go for a person that is serious about the internet.
  6. Damn, the only ice we ever see at my club is in a glass after the shoot.
  7. Ya sure, but it is SOmuch easier to "buy a solution" than to go out to the range and fix th problem yourself. Something like a "hardware solution" to a "software problem". Added to that is that it is kinda fun to buy neat stuff. It is also nicer to brag with your "big stick" that with your lack of skill.
  8. Rescomp still does the "Snakeskin" try: http://www.rescomp.co.za/rht_pistol_accessories.htm. It it still there for $35.
  9. What you can also look at is the position of your finger on the trigger. If the sights are centered and you keep on hitting left it could mean that your trigger finger is not far enough through on the trigger. What happens is that the trigger is not pulled back straight but to the side as your finger is partially pushing against the side of the trigger. This pushes the gun off target right as the trigger breaks. Try this, it might be part of the solution. By the way, welcome to the sport and forum. Just reading and understanding what it said on the forum and then practicing it pushed my score up by some 17%.
  10. Pancreatic cancer, ouch. Not the bet one to get(as if it ever could be good). Lost a friend to that middle last year. My dad (now 77) kicked Prostate cancer in his mid 60's and has been "clean" ever since. Wife had a mastectomy and two further ops after being diagnosed with Breast cancer. She just had her last checkup, "clean for the last 3 years". Man it is tough. I feel for you and your friend and his family. To say me and my family will pray for him is moot, of course we will. We cannot feel what your friend and his family is going through.
  11. I run the best Coffee shop in Port Elizabeth. Some @*^$ broke a R3800-00 window and stole a measly R 150-00, my float. If the stupid bothered to ask me I would have given him the money. OH yes, he also broke a empty safe out of the floor. Man I wish I had a camera in the safe, picture this, Sipo just left all the neat stuff in a shop because he found a safe bolted to the floor. It took him about an hour to get the safe out of the floor(when I do something I do it well, when I bolt something it normally stays bolted). He carries the safe away(leaving valuable stuff behind) and spends some quality time forcing the safe open- only to find two washers in the safe. Man I wish I could see his face- all the sweat lugging the safe over the roof for what? two washers and R150 in change. I will see his face when he gets busted, I spent 20 years in the Police and know the investigation officer, his branch commander as well as the Station Commissioner personally. We worked together for many years. The responding officers felt personally affected that the place where they get their lunches was broken into. As the forensic scene investigator said, "He opened a umbrella in the wrong mans ***).
  12. Its not as easy as just getting a new barrel and lobbing it into the slide. The barrel needs to be fitted to ensure the slide does not crack. You will also need to match-up the springs. Every time you swap the barrel you will need to re-zero. IMHO you should go full out for a open gun or keep it standard. The idea about a good second hand gun sounds best to me.
  13. IMHO you want a heavy gun with a light slide. That way you get most of the advantages of a heavy gun. The moving mass is low so recoil is sharper and quicker. It works for me. First do what Flexmoney advises. Shoot the gun until it is an extension of your body. Then go looking for ways to make the tool better. If you give me Eric`s gun I will still suck, because I am a poor shooter. Give my gun to Eric and he will still kick serious butt with it.
  14. Are you convinced about the facts. You could build yourself a complete gun from spares, a little Glock, a little CZ a bit Para Ordnance. It just does not sound like PD to me.
  15. When I got to work this morning I found that the bastards broke into my shop. Not much was stolen but quite a bit of damage was done. Obviously the alarm company was involved as the thieves never tripped the alarm. They knew better that me where the passives would not pick up. The bank next door also got knocked over and their alarm also never tripped. Problem is that quite a bit of damage was done. The stupids even broke a safe out of the floor. I wish I could see their faces when they found out that there was noting in the safe. I will need to talk to my alarm company about the break-in. What on earth is the need of a alarm if the client must inform the alarm company of break-ins? Man I am mad enough to chew nails and spit rust.
  16. Just blew up the primer chute in my Lee Pro 1000. Was using Federal LP primers, in spite of the warnings by Lee. About 5 or 6 primers went up in sympathetic detonation. It destroyed the chute and scared me spit-less. The only reason I used Federals was that it was the only primes I could get hold of in South Africa at the time. Never had a single problem with them until last night. Every time I yanked the "load pedal" they went bang, you cannot ask more of a primer than that. I think that Federals are a bit softer than the other makes of primers and that is why Lee warns against them. On Monday I am getting some PMP stuff, Lee has no warning about them so hopefully no more KABOOMS in the reloading room. Oh yes, obviously I was wearing my safety glasses else I would have been in the market for a new set of eyes today.
  17. Used to love investigating cases like that. You go to all the stores were the cards were used and look at the security tapes. Sooner or later the fool gives him/herself away. It always gave me a lot of pleasure to nail a bastard like that. Man I miss that. What I do not miss is when people died, especially children Unfortunately you cannot have the one without the other, still sometimes I miss the job a lot. Put some preasure on the cops to thoroughly investigate the case. If done diligently it normally leads to a arrest and then the bastard has the opportunity to becomes someones bitch. For some reason I like the idea, a lot.
  18. Warning the advice you get here might just make you a better shooter(I went from 50% to 60.96). This seriously irritates shooters that has been shooting for a long time.
  19. As long as they are "Factory standard" it should work. I cannot see someone like Angus selling something that would not make PD. Th emost important thing is to ENJOY the sport. Why the H.. else would you do it.
  20. The only gun I ever sold and not regret was a Llama .45. I spent big bucks on it to make it work but the dang thing just would not run. The new owner put in a new barrel link and used it to kick my butt in competitions. Obviously there is some regret there, just not for getting rid of the clunker. Guns are persons, complete with personalities. You would not sell your children now would you?
  21. When I opened my shop it was about 90 F. That was at 06:30! Today we will fry. The temperatures are still mild to what will be hitting us in February. Luckily I live in a coastal city(Port Elizabeth, South Africa) so things are not as bad as they get inland. Come on Winter, you can dress warmer but after you hit skin you cannot dress cooler.
  22. I have seen that the higher level matches seem to have more longer shots than the Level 1`s. I am shooting a Level 3 in March and there will be several 30-45 meter shots there. I practice the long shots and then find the shorter shots "easier and faster".
  23. Hell I think you guys are way in overkill. I celebrate if I just get the mag into the magwell on the first try never mind in under a second. Than would explain why I am a C shooter
  24. What the guy did is called "Suicide by Police". Obviously some people would complain, it comes with the territory when you become a Police officer. I shot and killed a man that shot at me with a revolver in 1998. He called the Police and claimed to be holding his ex-wife and daughter hostage. Turned out the gun was loaded with rounds where the bullets were removed and replaced with paper(looked and sounded just like the real thing) and that his ex and daughter was not even in the country. People do it so that it cannot be claimed that they committed suicide. I feel for your brother and would strongly advise that he goes for counseling- I did not and left the Police with "Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder".
  25. Had endless problems until I got the FCD since then not a single problem in either 9mm or .45. Wish I paid $12 for it in South Africa though.
