  1. Now I live in South Africa so what I will do will not help you guys over in the US but I will not go to that range, ever. I will encourage other shooters not to use that range. Soon the owner will notice that his business is hurting and change his tune. How in hell will we ever make headway against the antis if out own people shoot us in the foot. Forward this post to the owner, maybe he/she/it will reconsider. With friends like this we don't need enemies.
  2. What I find when I have a student that shoots low and left is that they do not put their finger deep enough into the trigger. The moment the trigger breaks the pistol then goes low and left. Try putting your finger deeper into the trigger- but not so deep that you "hook" the trigger to the right again. This normally works for guys just starting out but to my embarrassment I have found that every time I have a shooting problem it was a fundemental problem in the end. It all boils down to fundamentals, every time
  3. IMHO I would look at the effectively of the caliber and then choose the best gun in that caliber. For carry purposes I would rather carry a 40 than a 9mmP because it is more effective. I would feed it the best bullets I can get my hands on. Economy plays no part here I do not cost my or my loved ones life in Rands or Dollars so only the very best will do. Off course here in South Africa we have a very small choice but personally I would go for the 135gr Corbin designed by Peter Pi. I understand that you have a different judiciary than us because here we reload if we cannot get hold of decently loaded factory cartridges. The Judge looks at whether you acted within the grounds of self defence after you kill an attacker. Only if it is found that you exceeded the grounds of self defense that the court considers the tool you used to commit the offense and that is used in sentencing.
  4. I can show you the chew marks on my liver caused by that one. Saw the SA Champ do it once, fired two shots and reloaded again. Still beat me by a wide margin. He saw that the bottom witness hole was not brass as the mag went in and reloaded sooner as not to run out. Everyone just thought it was one of Alex`s strange plans. I think everyone does it at least once, almost lie not making sure you have a round in the chamber.
  5. Just one of the reasons I just stick to Open Source, it works and keeps on working. Maybe that is just a reflection of the type of person I am. I always swim upstream. Everyone thinks I am negative, I just live in my own world were everyone knows and worships me. Vista is not allowed in my world.
  6. Just found out that I joined a club called the people with bleeding ulcer club. Never applied, never even had any interest to join. I suffer from asthma and my quack gave some new stuff that "Openes the Chest". Firstly it does not open the chest at all and secondly it dissolves your stomach lining and causes you to "poo" black and feel bad, very bad. We(Eastern Cape) are shooting against our neighboring Province on Saturday and my daughter and I would have taken part in the "Border Champs"- but no, I will be further enriching the medical fraternity by having my stomach "welded" up. The only reason my stomach needs "welding up" is because the medical fraternity was picking my pocket in the first place. I am not a violent person but this is more than I can bear!! Someone else will bleed! I have never felt like I have been raped before but as sure as the Almighty made little green apples I have been raped. Someone will pay, I will have my pound of flesh! I will NOT go quietly because of the avarice of some group of people that sees me and my family as a cash cow. ( My wife has Breast Cancer and I have shares in the local Oncology Department). I am not a Gunepig so kindly do not use me as one. If a specific medicine have a side effect- tell me about it when you prescribe it not when you visit me in hospital because I collapsed. I may be just another cash cow to you but I am at hart a violent person that holds grudges for ever. That is why I go to church, to beg forgiveness for the people I sinned against- usually after I felt they sinned against me and mine. I will not be on the Forum for a few days as I will be residing in a very expensive hotel undergoing a procedure I never wanted to undergo because of medicine that did not work. I have a business to run and have neither the time or inclination to spend my time away from my "Bread and Butter". The moment I feel better I will give the remaining part of my mind to the quack that mishandled me. I will now go somewhere else and chew on my liver someplace private!
  7. First check for a broken spring, I found that mine was "kinked". Replacement worked fine. You can aways take away but it is kind of hard to put back after you cut off.
  8. Done it once, to prove a point, came stone last. Idea was to start clean and then go faster. Lost the plot and is racing now. Maybe just maybe I will shoot a "Full house" again this Saturday.
  9. Me and my wife, Sanet, is fighting this thing together. Actually she is fighting and I am doing whatever I can to make life a bit smoother for her(main cheerleader). Take whatever positive you can and run with that. Do not ever focus on the negative. Cancer can and will be beaten. I keep a X-ray of her breast with the cancer on my side stand so that I can pour all that is negative into that. I wont BS you, it is tough. She has had 3 ops and a series chemo therapy. Watch for the orange stuff, that is the stuff with the worst side effects. Most of all stay positive. She will need your strength to beat this. Don`t go looking for the cause, it is energy wasted, much rather spend your energy on positive things. I don't know if you are a Christian but if you are, make use of the structure in your church to help carry you in this tough times. You might even consider joining a church. Pray without stopping. Most of all be assured of me and my families prayers to you and your loved ones.(Even if you belong to another faith, I don't care). Here is grubby old South Africa we have a saying: Cancer CAN be beaten! My prayers go with you.
  10. Add to that the prayers of the Buys family, from young to old, from big to tiny. Our prayers will be with you.
  11. I would like to add to John Dunn that a replacement barrel is quite cheap for you guys in the States but the medical cost of a "blowup" might be quite costly. Put in a replacement barrel and then you do not have to worry about it again.
  12. IMHO it is a better idea to get a near stock gun and start shooting it. After you shot it for a while you can then make an informed decision on what you would like do done to the gun. Just think, you spend a near fortune on Fiber Optic just to realize later that you are one of the people that does not like FO, or like a thinner or thicker one. To me my guns are always in a stage of flux, constantly changing, mostly getting better but also sometime worse. Added to that my way is more fun and the end result, if I ever reach it, would be the perfect gun for me.
  13. Congratulations!! I hope you have started a new move for all of us. Now we just need to get one set of rules through the world so that we can be seen for the sport we are. Congratulations
  14. At the risk of getting kicked off the Forum: I have a much more permanent solution in mind. It still gets me hot even after more than a week.
  15. +1 For the above. The same for most aspects of "gun-smithing". If you do not fully understand what you are changing it can have very unexpected outcomes. Had a FN-FAL go full auto on me a few years ago after the sear got polished a bit. +1 for the 2 round idea.
  16. I don't shoot a Glock but if my 1911 primers flowed like that I would flinch badly with every shot I dare to fire!!
  17. IMHO I would never, ever remove metal in the barrel. I would take it to a gunsmith- he is a unprofessional and should know what he is about. Surely you would not take out your own tonsils. Your average 9mmP works at tens of thousands bars of pressure. This is not the right place to experiment. If you stuff up the barrel(and that is very easy to do- even by a professional) you stand a good chance to bleed- a lot.
  18. Just remember that the British used a different cartridge than the .45ACP. It was something like a .455 Webley and had a small rim. The cartridges are similar but not identical. Please make very sure that you use the correct cartridge as you just might have a huge problem with head-spacing and accuracy. The british cartridge was even lower powered than the ACP. I bought one of these British contract barrels a while ago not knowing about the difference and it simply did not work. The most obvious difference is in the magazines.
  19. Welcome to the Forum and enjoy. Try and get Brian's book, it really helps quite a bit. The advice you get it worth a lot and most guys are only too eger to help a new shooter, especially if he shows that he is serious about shooting. Personally, I try and dry-fire a lot( I cannot get to the range because of work commitments) and I shoot every competition I have the opportunity to shoot. In the beginning you will find that your brain goes all mushy at the sound of the beep. The only cure for this brain death, that I know of, is to shoot a lot of matches. After the first hundred or so your brain might start working from time to time before the unload and show clear command. I used to change into a blathering idiot at the sound of the beep but fortunately that has changed to a normal idiot after about 150 matches. I still insist on putting holes in every target even if it takes 32 seconds to fire 4 shots weak hand unsupported.(The gun kept on jamming because I hold it too high.)
  20. Spare the rod and spoil the child. I only had to spank one of my daughters once. It just was never necessary again. I take the one shooting every Saturday and from time to time she kicks my a$$ on a stage or two. The other one goes fishing with me every time I go. Eldest one just would not touch a piece of bait- with a 12 foot barge pole. Every time some one asks me how I could consider spanking my children I answer "Because I love them so much."
  21. And I thought SA doctors stupid. The hooks gets pushed through and the barbs the cut off. This leaves two tiny puncture wounds and the shooter still can shoot on Saturday. Surely this it one of the first things they teach Doctors. Saw a guy shot with a spear-gun a few years ago. The Doc`s also tried pulling that one out until a nurse stopped him. The spear and rather large barb got pushed through the poor guy`s leg, out the other side, the head unscrewed and the spear then pulled out. This was described as "may cause some discomfort" by the Doctor. Was the cop on the scene when they came out of the water to I had the "pleasure" of watching the whole episode. Put me off spear-gunning for the rest of my life. After that I used the word "discomfort" as my cue to leave.
  22. Me and my family will pray for you and your daughter. Illness with one`s youngsters hit us in the softest place. You just have no defense there. Tell her we`re praying for her down here in South Africa and we are good at it since we are still around in-spite of all the bad things happening here. And least I forget, my youngest daughter, Amaryne, says I better tell you that she worries about your daughter and she is 11 year old as well. ( Apparently it is some girl thing that works between 11 year olds) and us dads are clueless about it.
  23. CR, for 3 reasons. 1. It works and is of good quality and carries a very good guarantee (i.e. it lasts a long time) 2. I`m South African and Cr gets made here so if something goes wrong, Franco is just 1100km away. (overnight) 3. I own one and will not spend money on something that works perfectly every time.
  24. 1.Fiber Optic front sight. 2.Rear sight. 3. Magwell 4. Bigger magazines.(higher capacity) 5. Trigger
  25. I would love to shoot a revolver or is that a revolter but I live in South Africa. We need huge mag capacities in our normal lives to beat of the criminal gangs. Still I compromised by going for a .45, less rounds but more effective. Still have my .357 snubbie for occasions like going to the beach or to Church.
