FWIW, I've found the best way for ME to lose weight is to NOT try to lose weight.
I tried for years to lose weight, and kept inching up a pound a month, or so - hopeless,
and the more I tried to lose weight, the more frustrated I got
Then the doctor told me my liver and gall bladder were full of fat, and I should have my
gall bladder removed, and I became pre-diabetic, about 10-12 years ago.
I stopped trying to lose weight, and started trying to eat healthy ...
Wanted to save my liver, gall bladder and NOT become diabetic.
So, I cut carbs way down, as well as fats.
Didn't realize it, but my next visit to the MD and the RN told me I had lost 15 lbs since
my last visit
To "EAT HEALTHY", you have to accept some unpleasant truths:
1. you have to eat healthy forever (okay, you can cheat a bit one day every 1-2 weeks)
2. you have to accept the fact that you will be hungry most of the day, especially for
the first week or two. BUT, that's okay, if you think about it - what's wrong with
being hungry ?
3. NO SNACKS, EVER.
4. no sugar, ever (okay, 1x/week)
5. no fatty meats (hot dogs, hamburgers, salami, liverwurst).
6. cut down on the cheese, butter and NO ice cream - okay, 1x /week in small amounts.
7. Eat whole grains (have to carefully read the label, or you'll end up with white bread
that looks like whole wheat - think Pumpernickel or Rye, e.g.)
For ME, it was better to go cold turkey rather than inching in - rather than eliminating or
cutting back a little at a time, I stopped ALL of it - no sugar, meat or fat EVER, and drank
ONLY WATER.
After I got my weight down to where it should be, and was feeling much better, then I
added a few things back in to my diet, and "cheated" a bit more than at first.
Still a struggle, 10 years later, but I feel better at 73 than I did at 60
