  1. You may want to explore the quote function if you want to respond to someone.I'm waiting for someone to try making sense of adding a rifle division the the PISTOL rules....not seeing anybody coming close to it. The best people have come up with so far is "it won't hurt anything" or something along those lines. There are already matches dedicated to 3-gun, multi-gun etc...and that's where rifles belong. Why someone feels the need to mess with pistol matches is beyond me. For all the folks who say it won't change anything, that's simply not the case, and it's easy to prove. Now for any stage with a turning start we're going to say "oops, you have to add a table to your stage design for the PCC shooters...sorry, it's how it has to be. Too bad you can't have the stage set up the way you wanted it, there's got to be a table taking up space where you might have wanted something else." Mini-Mart? Let's just change that classifier because it won't work for PCC. Melody Line? Hmmm...guess we'll have to add a table for that as well. Gun in box stages (yes, I've seen those recently)...nope, unless you build an extra box for PCC. Beware the law of unintended consequences. The chance that stage designs won't get altered at least a little bit is virtually nonexistent. Stage designers will see how PCC shooters game their stages, and they will respond and before you know it we could wind up with either the stupidest rifle stages or the stupidest pistol stages at the same match. If I was running a club I know I would already be expecting that the PCC shooters are going to start complaining that clubs haven't made racks for their guns, so add that to the to-do list, along with the associated time/cost involved...every bay now needs a carbine rack, and probably an extra safe area/table to accommodate them. Strawman argument much? Aghhhhh, stuff will have to be added! Stuff will have to be changed! Or maybe it won't. Facing up range pistol, PCC start facing downrange at low ready. Pistol gun in box, PCC start facing downrange at low ready. There are much simpler fixes than the ones you propose. PCC shooters want a rack? They can build their own, squad together and take it with them. This is not that difficult. As far as why in a pistol match instead of a 3 Gun match. It's a lot easier to change nothing than to try and set up two sets of targets. One for rifle and one for PCC. PCC is not really a viable option at 500 yards. Or really even 200. You can run a PCC on a pistol stage with zero changes not to say some might not occur. There were more new PCC's at SHOT this year than in any three years combined I can remember. 9mm is cheap again but .223 is still up there so a lot of people are buying them. We can give them a spot to shoot and give them an entry point into USPSA or we can pass. As much as I've shot USPSA in the last year it really doesn't matter to me.
  2. I had the best luck with lasers on pistol and rifle, not shotgun. The issue was more to do with competition than tactical. For three gun we usually shoot clays or small steel targets with the shotgun. Which means there's only a few inches margin of error on the shotgun for aiming. If you were shooting a person you'd have more space to get the laser centered. Pistol targets and rifle targets tend to be easier to hit with the laser. The first night match I ran I didn't use any lasers. Figured I'd done enough night shooting in LE without them I wasn't worried about it. I was wrong. Got my ass kicked by guys effectively running lasers. If you put in a bit of time with them they are damn fast at night. Day? not so much outdoors. I used two lights on the rifle. One a very bright focused light for long range stages and a shorter, not as overpowering light for short courses. Found out if I tried running the 1000 Lumen beam up close it just blinded me.
  3. I ran the AP match in Sherwood, OR (less than 200 miles from Mr. Kelley, I think) for awhile. Right up until I got hosed by the NRA and specifically Damien at the Cup one year. Long story but I wasn't about to give them another drop of sweat running a match for them. The most we ever had was about 8 people. Some weekends it was 3-4.
  4. Apparently you only need two to recognize a Division at the Steel Challenge.
  5. Seriously? You chose well. St George is home to Ken Nelson and Practiscore, SUPS, the Hard As Hell MG and a host of others. I think Cedar City has three gun as well. Not sure of websites right now but you'll have plenty of quality options.
  6. Every 3 Gun rule set I have seen would have this in Open.
  7. It's brought up because A1 has had significant price increases over the last couple years. It's doubled in the last ten years, from under 100 to 200. And I think people have a right to ask what the increase is for. I know I questioned it to my AD and got a quick and easily understood answer. I'll leave that to him or the match staff though so I'm not passing along my interpretation of what he said. This is the first A1 match in a long time I'm choosing to pass on. Part the fee, part the way the prize table is awarded, but those are small parts. Just have too many other matches to choose from and this one didn't make the cut for me. I'm sure I'm going to regret that decision. BTW, comparing the match to A2 is apples and oranges. Too many differences to list.
  8. I would talk to Mike Foley if you're heart is set on it. He's new and probably doesn't know enough to ignore you yet.
  9. According to the IPSC Global Village thread on it the match was canceled back in September, 2015 and will not be moved to the US. Apparently a lack of participation didn't justify the cost and the outgoing USPSA President and BOD were not enthusiastic about taking on another match. Just repeating what I read.
  10. It's the first year, there will be kinks. I've talked with Mark a fair amount about this and I'm sure they picked the right guy to get them sorted out. And I say that as someone who is excluded from competing. But I also have a list of people that I want to try and get excited to go shoot it. That's what this is for. To bring new people into competition.
  11. ADDITIONAL 2016 RULES / CLARIFICATIONS 13.1. Rules are subject to change up until the match date. 13.2. No ammunition may exceed 3200 fps muzzle velocity. Also, no steel core or steel jacket bullets. 13.3. Rifle muzzle brakes / compensators will be permitted as long as they are not longer than 3" or have a diameter larger than 1". 13.4. All scoring will be heads-up. Rifle stages will be converted to stage points based on the corresponding OPTICS or IRONS stage leader. Then everyone will be ranked by overall match points.
  12. Never mind. I think I'll skip it this year at least. You seem a bit thin skinned. Actually just got a STI 2011 .45 because I thought it would be more appropriate for the match than most of the guns I have. And I was planning on having the mags black nitrided, again to stay in the spirit.
  13. What's up with coupled magazines? I seem to remember everyone running around with Redi-Mags when this match was going on. Will I have to dig around and find mine or are couplers like the Springer Precision mag coupler OK? Seem to remember something about the spare mag needing the bullets covered. Can we use the couple mag if we can figure out a way to cover up the bullets on the spare mag? Do they have to be covered after you swap mags?
  14. Yeah, the bright shiny silver is cool but that awesome blood red crimson is just downright offensive.
  15. Asked this on FaceBook and didn't really hear a good reason not to try. Anything that prohibits holding two events at the same time? For example a USPSA Pistol match and a USPSA Multigun match. Use the same stages, tweak the WSB's for PCC and score them separately. you could also accommodate changes for things that are too goofy to do with a carbine. Weak hand only etc.
  16. The folding stock is considerably shorter than the collapsible PDW stocks. You can't shoot it folded but it's much smaller for carry and transport. Unfold and you have a full stock option. The PDW ones are only a couple inches shorter than an M4 stock. For the price I'm not really sure you gain a lot with them. Rather go folded. I have one of the LAWs on a .300 BO and it's the perfect size. I also have a Cross Machine PDW stock that's nice as well. But again, it's not really all that much shorter.
  17. I always know when Daniel is going to show up. I borrowed his phone a couple years ago and installed a Find my Phone app. Now he's Lo-Jacked. I just check his location before packing for a match.
  18. My initial thought was heck no. But after giving it some thought I can see some merit. Frankly Kurt's suggestion that someone might get to a match and realize that Daniel Horner is shooting Scoped Tact is kind of silly. He almost always shoots ST. Why would anyone wait till the match to realize that. What I do like about it is the ability to travel to a match with one rifle and one optic. Take a look at the match and if the match staff did a good job of presenting reasonably visible targets that are possible for me on 1x, shoot Limited. If the MD's decided to bone limited shooters then I can shoot 1-6x rather than get frustrated and not be able to see the dang targets. I've been close to shooting Limited a few times in the last year but was glad I didn't when I got there and could barely see some of the targets on 4x.
  19. That was pretty much the exact combo that was common when they had the match last. With the exception of the scope. But that's a good pick now that it's legal (and exists.)
  20. From my understanding there will be an Iron 100% and an Optics 100%. Iron compare to Iron, optics compare to optics but everyone is lumped into the same results. So if you're shooting Optics and are second on the stage you'll be below whoever the first Iron sight guy is.
