  1. I was very leery of that rule when it came up. There was probably more discussion on it than anything else. I also don't think the language of the rule is what is being followed. The intent was to keep LE officers from having an advantage at matches. Basically, showing up at a match in a 10 round everything is restricted from everyone but LE state and shooting a 30 round big stick. Personally I don't think that's what the rule they passed states and I think that's where the confusion is coming from. The ruling on what the rule means is that it doesn't apply unless its in a state that does ban everything, even possession prior to the ban. At least that's my recollection of what John said. I don't think there are any states like that now (Jersey?) CA and CO are not that way, and that's why the rule doesn't affect them.
  2. Not sure where it was rejected by the ADs. I remember a majority thinking it was a good idea. That's how it was passed.
  3. I wasn't aware that Mike had anything to do with that association. Interesting. He's listed as the contact for the United States.
  4. Yep, still not welcome to shoot TPC matches for score. Maybe next year the NRA will recognize all police officers the same.
  5. SCSA varies greatly state to state. Some states on the East coast do really well. Washington does poorly now. The guy who used to push steel more than anyone else around, Robin Taylor, no longer works for USPSA. Mike Gallion another long time steel shooter from Washington started his own steel association. Can't rememeber the name off the top of my head, but they are running the Ephrata state match now.
  6. Are we supposed to hear back when we get in? I dropped mine in the mail Monday and not a peep. And just to make sure I'm reading this right, Open entry are being accepted into the match at the same time slot entries are?
  7. We have had one of these at the office for about five weeks now. It has the same style illumination as the Mark 4/6 scopes. The horseshoe and the dot are illuminated. It's not daylight visible, at least about the same as the Mark 6 is. Also to note, the BDC is only accurate at 6x. The reticle is nice and big at 1x though, unlike the Mark 6.
  8. To confirm, will you be loading minor loads for your .40?I am currently running a 13lb 1911 spring on my 9mm P320 and like that so far. For .40 minor I think a 13 or 14 would be a good place to start. Best bet would be to buy a reduced power calibration kit from Wolff. That would give you a wide range of recoil spring weights to experiment with so you can find the best ballance for your gun and load. P320 guide rods that accept 1911 recoil springs are available from Gray Guns and from Springer Precision. I actually don't reload....yet I am looking for the softest .40 ammo that I can get. Finding minor loaded .40 will require using small loaders as opposed to bigger commercially available ammo. Atlanta Arms used to have a nice .40 minor load. Not sure if they still do. Another option would be shooting it in L10 with full power ammo.
  9. Hate to bring this up, but I'm not sure that will be legal in Production. Not really sure how USPSA will sort that one out.

    Sig P320

I'd guess it has more to do with the ammo you are shooting, powder, bullet specifically, than anything wrong with the gun. I know I'll end up with black finger from my Glock, sometimes, depending on what ammo I use.
  11. Pete updated the FaceBook page. Contract with the Suncoast is pending. He posted it Feb 26 so hopefully we'll hear this week.
  12. It was introduced at SHOT 2014. Looked at one then. Brian Nelson has been using one since at least September. Looks like its holding up well.
  13. Man my memory sucks these days. I think I might have asked about expanding that to the pistol rule book? Really don't remember at this point. But if they meant for it to be legal in the pistol rulebook, that's the language you'd see.
  14. I know when we were doing the MG rule book a couple years ago I floated the idea of allowing different holsters. Basically allow the shooter to pick their retention level. It did not go over well. The opinion of the BOD and DNROI at the time was changing holsters was not allowed unless you had equipment break.
  15. We've been doing this in my section for at least 10 years. Added a buck or two to the match fee for everyone and a couple guys do handle teardown for the extra money. To be honest, I've forgotten how to take a match apart because it's been so long. Seeing that work for so long there are some pluses and minuses. The upside is it seems to keep everyone happy. The downside is you lose new people coming into the sport and learning that work ethic needed in other locations, or even for the times when our helpers aren't available.
  16. WTH??? Where do you get that there is tacit approval throughout the membership? Did you skip reading comprehension at your school? You didn't answer the question. What club is this? Some place you will likely never shoot, Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club, Palm Bay, Fl. Now that you have the information, what are you going to do with it? Jump to more bad conclusions? I spend a fair amount of time travelling. I'm hopping a plane Friday and shooting a match in West Virginia on Saturday. I need to be there anyway and figured it could be fun to meet a bunch of new shooters and see the ones there I already know. I've done that several times when I have to travel for work as well. I'm in Florida on a regular basis, usually at least once or twice a year, and have shot in Florida at least a half dozen times. But you are definitely right. I will likely never shoot at Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol Club. I do this for fun and with what I see here, it doesn't sound like fun to me.
  17. OJ had money. This guy did not. There also wasn't a lot of doubt about who pulled the trigger. More about whether he was culpable or not. That type of trial is always going to go a lot quicker than a who done it.
  18. What would that look like with stage 2 out of the mix? That one really skews points being so short.
  19. Ken is exactly right on my meaning. The construction at all of Utah's matches is always excellent. But a standing wall supported position on an 8 inch target at 100 yards is not any easier than a proned out, start of the stage, 300 yard flasher. It's a great way to add some difficulty in rifle shooting with limited space on the bays.
  20. Thanks for the video! Those stages looked fun as heck!!! What was the longest rifle shot? 325 yds was the longest rifle target. Their was also the dreaded 150 yard slug shot. Donavon Montross was the CRO on that stage ( and I believe the designer of that stage), he said that ~ 80% of the shooters were able to make that shot, many on their first attempt. I think the 10" plate on stage 1 gave more people trouble than the 150.
  21. I would not expect to see the same thing at the TX match. Sounds like a lot (all?) of the stage design was done by the local crew. TX could be completely different. It looked to me from videos on Facebook like Hard As Hell Part II. Not even close. About like a normal outlaw match, with not quite as many stages, 2 day instead of 2 1/2. More running, but everything else was pretty much spot on. It was just more than a few people were ready for.
  22. I would not expect to see the same thing at the TX match. Sounds like a lot (all?) of the stage design was done by the local crew. TX could be completely different.
  23. I had a lot of fun. From what I heard it was more than a standard Regional, but this was my first one. Wide range of different shooting challenges. Close and fast with a bit of long range in the mix. There were also a lot of mid range rifle stuff from mediocre positions that were challenging as well. A lot of running, more than my big ass was capable of doing well. They had one stage with rope fault lines they started dinging penalties on but they fixed it by the end of the match and zeroed all the previous penalties. I thought that was a very good decision.
  24. Shoot the Briley West Coast match! The stages aren't the traditional Steel Challenge stages and you can shoot rimfire rifle, plus good food and a full match instead of 40 or 50 shooters like at the Steel Challenge. You can shoot Rimfire rifle at the Steel Challenge as well.
