  1. I RO'd a stage yesterday, where most tried the 'catch.' No safety issue. Most failed as the round flip directly back at them or way off to the side. Seeing the clear chamber can be problematic. If I was unsure, I would make them show clear.
  2. Adjusting the feed lips is not a major issue. However, reliability might be a concern since there is a tendency for the mag to become a salt shaker--rattle rattle and jam-o-matic mag. i wonder if adding a spacer like the old STI mags would solve the problem? Keep us posted, please.
  3. I found this an interesting definition of the work "IF" http://www.dictionary.com/browse/if We use the Range Commands in our matches. The key, without determining intent, is the actual actions. If your are finished, unload, and show clear, IF you are not finished, you do not have to unload and show clear. You may shoot, stop, pause, .etc.....Until all three conditions of the command are completed the shooter actions is not finished. To quote John Amidon's conversation with me some years ago, it is a WHOOPS, ergo not DQ'able. I disagree with the intent logic. My friend of sixty some years, who got me started in USPSA and is also a CRO sometimes disagree when the area gets a little grey. There was a time when a shooter fired a shoot that was questionable. I could not see the actual action--narrow shooting enclose fit for only one person. My RO felt it was an AD. I could not justify it on that rule-it did not meet the conditions. Unsafe gun handling maybe but again no one had a clear view. Called the experience MD who was another CRO he concurred with a no violation. Did he intend on not intend to shoot the shot. UN-Determinable.
  4. .......racked the slide back with out dropping the mag, ...... Without dropping the mag is key. He did not engage the mag release so technically he was NOT in the process of dropping his mag thus NOT unloading. No DQ. Do you want to claim he was LOADING because he was loading another round into his gun. He fired his gun. This is an allowable action. If I rack my slide to continue shooting, are you going to call DQ?
  5. 1. "IF..." is an important word, it does not mean "you are finished'. It is a question-not a declaration 2. The mag was not dropped so how can loading or unloading rule be used to DQ 3. Without divining intent?, as John Amidon once said, "it sounds like a Whoops moment" rather than an unsafe gun handling. Therefore, no call as per the rules. Personally, I might have walked off myself being disappointed in my actions.
  6. I spent some time shooting 9mm in Limited as opposed to 40 major. My classifier scores were about the same. My match placement improved a tad bit. The reduced recoil and muzzle flip was actually a boon to improving my overall match performance. Advice is nice but nothing beats actually committing to minor for a while. Also, I generally shoot SS minor in regular matches. Two extra rounds are a big deal.
  7. I have 100/200 vision. I have worn soft contact since ~1975. I have spent a career in healthcare. I have friends in all the medical professions and solicited their advice. I have research all the different methods for correction. Some are better than others. Go to the most best/expensive eye surgeon possible for the evaluation. Actually go to a couple. The discount places are like puppy mills; sell the product. Your Cornea thickness is very very important. Read up on it. Each decade of my life since 1975 I re-assess the pros/cons. I still have NOT had it done. I know from personal experience of friends their challenges. Most have had corrections-some up to 8 corrections. They all still wear glasses. Also as your eyes age, there are other issues Presbyopia etc. Be aware of the downside risk.
  8. No to which question? ...on their strong side or ...can they...? They question has two parts which does he answer apply?
  9. I just put a Holosun 510 e gr on my JP. I thought I cranked it up but it seems pretty faint in the AZ sun. Is this normal? or Should I send it back and ask for another one? OH, and it was not even close to being zero'd. 5 inches low and six inches to the left. ThanksInsert other media
  10. Gary is correct. I shot a standard Thursday with my JP PCC. There was a barricade with targets on the 'weak's side and strong side. I started with the gun on the weak side of the barricade and shot it weak side. Then switched to strong side for the targets on the right/strong side of the barricade. The rule is fine as it stands. The option is with the shooter. No need to micro-manage every aspect of the sport.
  11. Are you familiar with the history of Wil and Sandy? That might help. Mike tried to make a go of Schuemann when he purchased it. Wil and Sandy collaborated on barrels. SV perhaps improved on the original barrels designed by Wil. SV barrels are very very good. If the choice is between the two; you cannot go wrong with SV. Perhaps you might give Brandon a call to get more info.
  12. So, just to be difficult: His problem statement is: He wants to progressed from M to GM. He thinks it is a seeing issue; one eye v. two eyes. Perhaps the improvement will come from another aspect(s) of his game/technique rather than seeing. Having talked extensively with quite a few GMs; I concluded they were always trying to improve their movement (foot work perhaps) to differentiate them from their competition. Granted most classifiers focus on draws, reloads, and accuracy so I am truly not sure of the correct course of action. Perhaps Jake might pipe in here. Steve Anderson wrote a book or two on how he did it via classifiers. His match performance was another issue.
  13. Go to the trap/skeet/sporting forums like Shotgun world. I know a few folks that put a special front sight on the blocks the view from the other eye.
  14. I use both Oakley and Rudy. I use the Oakley glasses a lot but in bigger matches I definitely use the Rudy. Both are very good.
  15. I am on the same page Jake. I find that TGO's Action Target 3 second par time drill amazingly instructive. Draw, sight picture coupled with diagnostics on error with a par time to be awesome. It pushes the limits/comfort zone for me. Having shot with MIke V many times, I was always impressed with how he move into and out of a "box/port, etc". Another practice drill for me.
  16. I don't disagree with you Jake. A solid draw is fundamental. As a B shooter who has pulled off quite a few <1 sec draws and <2 Bill drills, I found my game improved when I spent more practice time on calling my shots, splits and transitions. When I started to pay attention to my footwork, I found I was executing some pretty solid matches. I did/do a fair amount of daily dry on draws and reloads just not as much live fire.
  17. IMHO: Draws don't win matches. Yep they are cool to do and can be impressive. In a 10 stage match 30 rounds per stage with say 10 draws and your .5 seconds faster than everyone else-cool. Everybody else splits and transitions are .05 faster than yours--What's the math? 290 X .05 =?
  18. I should have been more specific also. Although, I remember when we shot the 338, I believe I was told at 1500, you "buried" a plate in the trees at what seemed like 800 yards. In fact your ability to stash targets in trees is the reason I went with SWARO, great glass in the early and late hours plus excellent clarity in shadows. The Schott glass in the IOR was excellent but FOV and eye relief not so great.
  19. ok, my error however, i believe there was a 50 cal one year and a 338 another at or around 1300 yards
  20. Try watching TGO on Action Targets YouTube--10 shots 3 second par time. It will explain a lot with great visuals.
  21. I thought I would wait a while before responding: When an individual goes to RO and CRO class(es) the instructor offers instruction/advice on how to be a RO/CRO. It does not require a ruling from NROI to be valid or a transfer of knowledge. There are way to many variations, scenarios, and/or situations for the NROI to publish a ruling. IMO; they expect RO/CRO to use reasonable, good judgement. On particularly weird or one off situations an opinion voice by Troy or a member of the NROI may suffice. On repeated issues not covered may require an official ruling. I am just saying you can not legislate every situation.
  22. Are you sure it is spring steel and not titanium (it will break)? MIne all work fine in my six different pistols.
  23. Brownells used to list the weight on their wood grips.
