  1. I have taken two classes. Both about 3 days. Both teachers were very good. A few years later I was at Taran's range. He said, "We got all kinds of things to fix here." I have been a squad mom for multiple super squads. Every GM I have met can pick out minor things that make huge differences in your technique. Nothing beats a GM who is a great teacher. 5 days is too long.
  2. I use it on my Safariland Els/Qls system. Not only that 5 of my friends now use them also. Cut off a few inches, I however use Sarafiland bolts and nuts with locktite. It great for all action shooting sports; idpa, uspsa, revo and 3 gun (nice have pistol and ar mags on the same belt.) NOTE: i have quality issue with some of the cheaper plastic versions. Upgrade. Amazon snowboard site is great.
  3. I know people who shoot very well and all have their own philosophy on the zero distance. Personally, 100 yrd zero, chrono, and a good ballistic app are keys. My red dot on the 45 degree off set is set at 15 yrds due to techinical shots at close range (center of clay birds).
  4. Hey Chuck, let me know if this is too political. I am taking about issues. I saw map of clubs and states that are not renewing their affiliations with USPSA. Is this spreading ?
  5. +1. One shot at everything.. Some will shoot for the points but as time runs out they will fire one shot at the remaining targets.. I knew two women 3gunners at RM3G. Their advice was three shots then move on. The tenacity of wanting the hit can work against you in a timed event.
  6. On the stage I was working, this was called on shooter. The shooter insisted the target was shot at!! The CRO was called. The shooter insisted the target was shoot at but someone taped the target early. The CRO was on that side of the berm, looking explicitly at the two last targets to be score for the very purpose of ensuring those targets were not tape until the Scoring RO made the call. The shooter persisted in disagreeing the call The match official came over and made the call and approved the pad since the shooter refused to approve. The Rule is simple. If it observed, then make the call. If not observed but assume, do not make the call. Easy peasy.
  7. Watch the JP video on their barrel fitting. If I remember correctly it involves heat and fitting the barrel very tightly into the receiver. Additionally, i believe at one time JP used Wilson barrels but then treated them. I concluded a regular Wilson barrel is very accurate but JP upped the accuracy and consistency. My JPs prefer Sierra over Hornady in the 69/68 arena. But I can (sometimes) hit targets past 400 yds with x193 55 gr ammo. Other brands of barrels the differences from JP are noticeable and seem more sensitive to ammo.
  8. A chrono is one of your best friends. Most ballistic calculators will tell you the barrel length for their data. You lose fps for every inch your barrel is shorter than the test barrel. Relying on factory fps may result in less than accurate data, especially the further out you go. KM and SH are spot on.
  9. Don't listen to KM listen to his evil brother instead :. At SMM3G we have targets out past 400 yds and have to shoot the hanging clays at 5 yrds.---no applicable in your shooting. but if they use golf balls or clays i will repeat one of KM's mantras: Know Your Zero! Those Miller boys know their zero.
  10. Having been a RO two rather large matches recently, the ability to bypass a target was evident. We always had two and sometime three ROs. There were a lot of FTSA calls. Both ROs; timer and pad, worked together to make the calls. Sometimes the clock RO is not capable of being in position and the pad RO watches and makes the call. We generally call FTSA while scoring sometimes if it apparent we can show the FTSA target at the end if not then during the scoring. This is a good rule.
  11. I did the match ammo thing at Nationals a few years back. I had issues on steel falling. Talking with the CRO on the stage. Someone I had known for years made the comment that others were experiencing the same thing on his stage. I noticed the problem on another stage. I did chrono with both ammo; the match and my reloads. That issues was more than two Nationals ago so maybe the problem does not exist anymore. But I won't buy it. It was 150gr ammo.
  12. I SVI in 9mm and one in 40 S&W. Called EGW for their Bomar cut plate. Kodiak Precision did the installation. Also converted the 40 to 9mm. I still have one SV in 40 S&W left--actually I use the frame for my .22 conversion unit sometimes. Holosun sights fit nicely on the EGW plate.
  13. I do have SVs. I just had my .40 converted to 9mm. The new barrel had to be fitted! My SVs are built to my specifications. The odds of swapping barrels are slim and none for no problems. There is a lot of fitting to be done. Then the issue is timing. I had a barrel fitted (Kart) by a member of the Pistolsmith Guild and it cracked due to improper fitting. That said there a probably a lot of barrels that do not require major fitting, some say minor fitting while other profess to be drop in. Venture at your own risk. Be smart, get a real gunsmith to fit the barrel and ensure the time is correct.
  14. He was leading edge in the production of DVDs. There is significant improvement in the production values over time. Matt was a very good communicator. Full disclosure: I took a class from Matt. I learned a bunch of stuff. He had to correct what Mike Seeklander calls my 'training scars.' Listening to people who had a clue--just not the right one :-).
  15. Nice observation. I did not see this situation coming. I have seen a lot of shooters in 3G fire 1 round at the remaining targets as time runs out so as not get to get failure to fire at but will take a target not hit penalty.
  16. CS--you are still one of the nicest guys I have ever met. Travis, Max and you are the most gracious people. Yeah, I would probably include TGO and some guy from VA (is that where you live Todd?). Those guys started the "GMs are easy to talk with.." philosophy and the next generation has take up the mantle.
  17. This thread has drifted from its original intent. Lets stick with the narrative. Troy's action reflect upon USPSA organization, its members and guess what its vendors. What vendor wants to contribution to a public relations disaster.
  18. 9.1.5.4 Why isn't this the deciding rule?
  19. Instagram; practical shooting insights I make no claim to the accuracy only cited the post.
  20. As I am now a member to the newest category of senior citizens I have some observations. I shoot at Rio with others in my age category. Almost all of us have switched to 9mm for the majority of our matches. The ease and convenience easily overcomes the disadvantage in scoring. We just don't care! We are out to have fun.
  21. Once again the Board has demonstrated malfeasance in office. Add to the latest DROI encounter at Nationals. Thanks Rob for the clarifications and to ltdmstr for their insight and righteous conclusions.
  22. I have two EGW Bomar plates for my Infinity guns.
  23. Tell Eric G. Ask his opinion. He does not seem to have a problem.
  24. Costco on Hayden. One of the docs is also a shooter.
  25. I love shooting shotguns and reloading my Revo. But i only shoot 2 gun now. Shotguns in 3 G are just a PIA. No fun. I like shooting my rifle and PCC. As an CRO/RO I get to see everyone's equipment which means reliability is key to any shotgun stage. IMO matches with shotguns are won on reliability and reloads. If you do not dedicate the same amount of time you spent reloading your pistol as you do your shotgun you will not be competitive. At our last big match, I saw a 16 year old with smoking fast reloads that blew the big boys away. Magazine feed shotguns rule most matches so reliability is an issue.
